OK, no one has gotten it yet, so you get one more clue and one more day. This clue probably won't help much, tho.
Clue 2: An obscure sequel was made for the SNES.
Guess the game!

Yeesh, the more you explain it, the more it sounds like Zombies Ate My Neighbors, even though it was for the SNES and didn't have the single screen thing.

Well, it looks like I finally stumped you guys. Does that mean that I get a point? Answer: Fortified Zone from Jelaco for Game Boy.

Maybe there should be a score for you, keeping track of the games you fooled us on.

Yeah, I think that'd be fair. I might have tried again...but I've been gone these last four days, so...

Any chance I can convince you to reboot this, Nester? I was enjoying it.
Perhaps in an effort to spice things up we can let the winner of the last test to come up with one (that way, you can guess!).

Heh. Actually, I have considered continuing this. I just didn't know if anyone was interested. Just give me some time to make a list of games.
Or we could take turns, as you suggest.

Cool. I'll look forward to it. I have some ideas as well, if we decide to go with alternating question asking.

Just remember, Nester: if people stop posting, it's because they have no clue about the game and not because they're no longer interested

Actually, I stopped last time because I was running out of ideas, and I didn't feel like spending a lot of time on it. All right, same rules apply as before. I'll carry the same scores over, as well. Clue: This game is a 16-bit overhead run-and-gun, similar to Mercs or Shock Troopers. There are multiple characters to choose from, each with unique stats. However, the game is always played in 2-player mode. If there is only one player, the other character is controlled by AI.
Guess the game!

Pocky and Rocky 2. I've always wanted to play those.

Neither of those are the game I'm thinking of (altho Pocky and Rocky 2 is an interesting guess).

It's been two days with no correct guesses yet, so here are your final clues.
Clue 2: The exit to each level must be opened by activating "nodes". Also, you can use cash to purchase upgrades for your character(s).
You have one more day to...
Guess the game!
