I know we're talking about this game in the news hub, but I wanted to create a thread for it because...well, just because. And just for posterity, here's the trailer again. Now, I'm not nerdy enough to analyze the details. But what intrigues me about this game so far is that it's not being developed by Retro. Being a collaboration between Team Ninja and Nintendo, it seems to have more of a Japanese "flavor" to it that was not present in the Prime games. I'm not saying that's good or bad, I'm just saying it looks like a Team Ninja game. It has a very sleek look to it that I like. I do like the change in style, tho. It freshens it up a bit. What are your thoughts on the new style? I don't know if it's a first- or third-person game, but I'm glad to see that it has, to some capacity, third-person elements to it. I just don't care for first-person games much.

First of all, WTF have they done to Samus? She looks nothing like her Brawl/Prime incarnation (seriously, that face of hers is completely unrecognisable to me) I do like the change in style, tho. It freshens it up a bit. What are your thoughts on the new style? Personally, I preferred the old style to be honest. I'm all for freshing up the style a bit, but this looks terrible!

Oh, I LOVE the fact that they kept her "young and pretty" but added back the "grunge" she so sorely needed. She's a bounty hunter and time-tested warrior, damnit, not some buxom, ponytailed brat!

I have to admit when I first saw the trailer I only realised it was Samus when the Varia/Power suit appear. The trailer does raise some questions though . . . Like - Samus appears with different hair styles in the trailer, or is it another blonde women entirely, or it just set with different time periods/history in her life? - Who is the woman at the end, that Samus/whoever is in the Varia Suit talking to at the end? - Is this a sequel, a prequal or both, or is there just time travel/playable flashbacks involved? We did see biped Mother Brain and Ridley - First person finishing moves? - Other M? MOther? EarthBound crossover for the win! It was obviously PK Starstorm at the start of the trailer. ;D - And there's probably many more . . . Other than that the trailer was awesome, Samus looks great, voice sounds good, cutscenes look fantastic. This trailer makes it look like Nintendo could easily make a CGI Metroid film.

Adam Malkovich, along with original Ridley and Mother Brain, was in the trailor, so I'm pretty sure its a prequel to the past games. Almost definently pre Metroid. So it makes sense for Samus to look different.
Anywho, I'm excited for it. It looks great from what we can tell now.

I'm still not entirely sure what this game is. It does look pretty nice, though. And its nice to see the Metroid franchise go somewhere different - even though I liked the Primes, it was definitely time for something new.
I'll be keeping my eye on this bad boy.
EDIT: Wait wait, I just watched the trailer again. Does anyone else get the vibe that you're not really playing as Samus? Or at least, for a portion of it? At the end of the trailer, whoever is in the power suit looks at that scientist girl and says Samus Aran, implying to me that the scientist is in fact Samus. Maybe thats what the 'Other' refers to in the title, maybe its the story of the old bounty hunter who Samus (who is perhaps also the young girl in the start) eventually replaces. Or something.

Well, I personally was expecting, at the most, a classic style Metroid, but then they throw out this.... whatever the hell genre this is. Very unexpected.
And the new style is indeed very nice.

I'm not sure what's going on with this game but so far it looks pretty good to me. The story seems unclear to me - is it a sequel or a prequel (how Samus got the Power Suit in the first place?)

I assume that after she grew up and trained with a Chozo in physics, she started exploring a nearby metropolis, while someone or some group of people taught her how to use the Power Suit. Her jumping and other physical movements seen in the trailer were most likely learned by the Chozo who raised her.

My theory. She is a clone who believes she's Samus and in her memories is reliving the experiences of the real Samus.
I doubt there will be any Prime influence in this game. I saw what looked like the classic crab looking Space Pirates instead of the new model Retro Studios created.
Besides I don't think the Japanese really appreciate what Retro Studios has done for Metroid.

That's a shame. I love what Retro did for Metroid.
But I can also dig this classic charm too.

Am I the only one who thinks the Samus shown looks like the one in the comics?

Kind of like this, but with shorter hair. For the sake of this topic, I think that the "Remember me?" guy will be Sylux, but only if this game is a prequel to Metroid, or at least takes place before Metroid Prime. If he's a new character, then I shall dub him Ultimate Houston Armstrong.

I think he's a new character. Like I said before I don't think this game will incorporate anything from the Prime games (and yes its Prime Hunters)
I don't think we'll see anything from the Prime games again until Retro Studios or the guys who made Hunters decide to get back in action.

I wouldn't say they have abandoned the Metroid Prime parts. There were areas where you zoomed inside the helmet for some first person shooting... I'd say that's keeping the ties nicely open.
I'm trying to work out what kind of game this is. Will it switch between game styles on the fly? Is it 2D? 2 1/2D? One, long quicktime event? I actually think it may be the latter.
I love how everyone's assuming that guy is Adam Malkovich though. I know it's odd for a guy to say "Remember me?" in a series where Samus is usually completely alone... But that could mean anything at this stage.
It looks great anyway. And the designs really look like a merger between the 2D and 3D game styles. I'm just confused as to how it will play...
