Retro Studios did a very good job with Metroid. For Gunpei Yokoi, I hope Team Ninja knows what they are doing

I'm very excited with this game. Anybody who had read the manga will recognize Adam Malkovich as the general seen in the first section of the trailer: "Any objections, lady?". It seems that the game will feature situations from all the franchise (the final battle of Super Metroid is seen in the trailer) and parts that have never been seen in games like the big city (supposedly Daiban, the capital of the Federation, a young Samus part of the Federation Police, all from the manga).
But I don't have a clue about who is the black guy.

Ah, the general was Malkovich. That's making sense... especially if he appeared in the manga (which I'm pretty sure I've read, but don't remember him being in it).
Samus's world is looking a lot less solitary these days.
Oh, and I worked out it was a Metroid game when you see the brief flash of Zero Suit Samus before she puts on the whole Varia suit. Or at least that was when I emitted a sound a bit like "Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!"

Yeah. For me, the "Any Objections Lady?" moment gave it away.

The above three posters:
Isn't that very obvious if you've played Metroid Fusion?

Only if you're obsessive about Metroid. I imagine it would be fairly forgettable if you've ONLY played Metroid Fusion.

I remember the computer was Adam's brain, but I don't recall him having a catchphrase.

According to GoNintendo, 1up confirms that Nintendo R&D1 is the team that's working with Team Ninja on Other M. So, I guess the two of them together are the "Project M" that's referred to in the trailer?

Yes, it seems to be a joint studio.

Well, Nintendo R&D1 doesn't exist any more (all game development studios are now called EAD), but the point stands.
There seems to be concern over this game being handled by Team Ninja rather than Retro... It's bizarre. Does nobody remember how extremely unpopular Retro was as a choice before Metroid Prime was released? And how everyone thought first-person was a bad idea?
Gamers have the worst memories...

It's a valid fear though. Just because Retro Studios proved themselves capable to the task, doesn't mean that Team Ninja is automatically just as able.

This interview at 1up with Nintendo's Yoshio Sakamoto and Team Ninja's Yusuke Hayashi answers quite a lot of questions. Some highlights: - The game takes place between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion.
- The "Remember me?" guy is one of Adam's soldiers.
- It doesn't ignore the Prime games, but Other M is more a part of the R&D 1 produced games.
- That "other" Samus is not actually another Samus.
- It will not be as hard as Ninja Gaiden.
- Project M is the collective name of not two, but three companies working on the game: Nintendo, Team Ninja, and a third un-named company that's "focusing on the cinematics."

Interesting stuff there. So it's established that Adam Malkovich survived all the way up to just before the events of Metroid Fusion. I think by the time this game is done, the events that follow Metroid Fusion will seem all the more interesting.
I find the quote about the Prime series being just "one incident" a bit funny. It was a pretty damn big incident that resulted in an all-out battle of the Federation with the Space Pirates and the takeover of the Space Pirate's own homeworld. The Phazon was depicted as being a much larger threat than the Metroids have been.

It could be anyone really. It could even be the folks who did those neat cinematic movies for Metroid Hunters.
