This game is a prequel to the original Metroid, if I've understood it correctly. In that it flashes back to her pre-Zero Mission days. So she wouldn't have been an accomplished bounty hunter.
So she's yet to earn their respect in the first place.

How can it be a prequel if the leaked opening sequence shows her reminiscing about the events of Super Metroid?

Yeah this is a sequel to Super Metroid.
The Federation as a whole has no issue with Samus whatsoever. The issue is between Adam and Anthony versus Samus. These guys had a falling out with Samus prior to her leaving the military, probably related to the scene on the battleship in the trailer released a few days ago.

Well, it's Samus reminiscing over her past right after the events of Super Metroid, isn't it? At least, that's what I thought. I guess its because I thought Adam had died years and years before Fusion, when this is set just a few years before.

Bitmob has an interview with NoA's localization producer Nate Bihldorff. He assures us that Samus will not be entirely "stoic and introverted," and that there will be "a lot of depth to her character." They also talk about the voice actor they hired for Samus; a relatively unknown actor named Jessica Martin. Altho, she won't be allowed to do any interviews until after the game comes out. I wonder why they didn't use Jennifer Hale.

Perhaps an older Samus with an older voice? If this is between Super and Fusion, she may have developed more, which isn't to say "Holy Cheese Whiz, her chest has grown!" I haven't seen the clips, I'm not sure if this is the case, but if it does sound older then that's why. The title interests me if this is the Super-Fusion midquel. Whatever M means, we're probably gonna have to kill it.

I'm so on the fence with this game. The idea of bringing Metroid back to a 2D base of design certainly sounds great, and following the Super Metroid story is very engaging to think about. But it's the presentation and perhaps influence from where Metroid has gone in modern day (especially in Corruption) that seems like this is going to feel very little like a Metroid game. Just reading all the details, the aim assist, and the 3D plane of gameplay, it sounds like Shadow Complex wearing a Metroid trenchcoat.
Not that it's a bad thing, I just question how refreshing this will feel. After such a long break of Metroid, when Fusion came to the Game Boy Advance it was an awesome experience. Other M has that potential but it also seems like it's treading a "did it before" line. At the moment anyway, there's still not enough I've seen to really judge and I will probably buy it on release day regardless.

It's good to see you still around and kicking D.A.N..
I believe that this game will end up being good. With Sakamoto at the helm I have full confidence that this will be the Metroid experience that was meant to be played.

Even though the trailers worry me I have faith that this game will be good. The gameplay as of now looks confusing, but the game at least can't be worse than Corruption.

There does need to be some gameplay videos. Written previews and screenshots can only do so much about it all.
@leon: I take it you know D.A.N. from somewhere else?

Yeah, I've known D.A.N. and Chloroform? for years. We go back to before the Wii was even released.

I'm with you there, I'm on the fence on this, it looks pretty cool but I'm a bit nervous on how it will turn out. I'd get it on the release date if I manage to get my Wii fixed sometime soon. Anyone else get a lil Final Fantasy feeling from the Trailer?
