Of course you do. It's because he feels that way. He had very little involvement in them, so he naturally would be inclined to like the ones he participated in more. If someone took my gaming world and molded it in ways I didn't have a lot of influence in, I'd not have a lot of personal connection to it. It may be a perfectly executed game, but it wouldn't really be mine. So I can understand Sakamoto. He's never said they were shit or anything - he just doesn't really resonate with them, and I can't blame him. That's almost like the exact opposite of Warren Spector's attitude towards Deus Ex: Human Revolution. He's been asked in multiple interviews how he feels about someone else working on this series that he created, and he's said that he's actually thrilled and flattered that something he created has a life beyond him. It's as if his child has grown up and become independent, and he's just as excited to try the game out as everyone else. Anyway, here is an "interactive" trailer for Metroid: Other M. It's interactive in that you click on a Remote icon to switch to a first-person view at predetermined points. It's OK, but it's nowhere near as cool as the interactive trailer for Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles.

I can understand the thrill that Spector sees about the continuing of his franchise without him, too. So I see that side of the coin, as well. I really wonder what I do think about the handling of my universes by others...I've gotten a few pieces of fan art before, so I have a mild idea, but I may have been a bit rash taking Sakamoto's feelings as my own on the topic, too. Hm. Something to ponder this evening.

I don't know the fact he keeps bringing Prime up in such a way is like he's comparing the two and saying his is better. Which I think is arrogant.

How did he not say "Square" during that interview?

I don't know the fact he keeps bringing Prime up in such a way is like he's comparing the two and saying his is better. Which I think is arrogant. Yeah, I do find it annoying that he keeps on mentioning the Prime series to prove that his game is better, but at the same time I, nor anyone else except those involved in the game's making, can't really saying about if this is true, as we have yet to play and beat the game. But I will say this: Super Metroid is a very hard game to surpass. Even 16 years after its release, one can still play it and enjoy the game. Did Sakamoto work on Super Metroid? If so, then he, more than anyone else, would know if this is the "perfect Metroid experience". __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Anyone remember WindWaker? Of course you guys do. Quit whining and judge after beating the game. (Sorry, but I just had to say that. I'm getting sick of the Internet's Nintendo/Metroid Fans crying like a bunch of spoiled brats over what a few game developers have done to their "precious franchise" without having played the game.)

Anyone remember WindWaker? Of course you guys do. Quit whining and judge after beating the game. While I agree with you on your general principle of "not judging a game by its previews" (to paraphrase), I have to say that waiting until after you beat a game before making your mind up... Wind Waker probably wasn't the best example. Awesome sauce until 3/4 of the way through it, and then pretty lame. Unfortunately, it's the first steps and the last epic moments likely to stick in the mind. I know I loved Wind Waker as a whole, but I look back on it with less fondness than it deserves thanks to its poor pacing in the last stretch of the game. And Puppet Ganon was totally ridiculous.

Wind Waker is my top favorite Zelda title.
Yes, I hated the tedious-ass Triforce piece hunt towards the end too, but it's mainly the versatility of the whole game's aesthetics that grabs me.

@ Fryguy64: What I meant was one can only give a full, personal review of a game once he/she that game finishes. I have personally fallen here, too, and quite recently: I bought World of Goo about a year ago, found the first stages horribly boring and with a lackluster puzzle feel, and left it there about until a month ago. Bored, I decided to continue playing something that cost me 15 dollars, and found out that the game was awesome after Chapter 1. Lesson: Play the game entirely before criticizing. @boo Destroyer: Isn't it? And to think that was my first Zelda Title... But whatever, wrong thread to be talking about that anyway >.> But whatever. I sort of want to ask for this conversation to end ASAP. I can already feel it in my bones that some person that isn't content with M:OM so far is going to respond and another little flare of rage will be produced... __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Instead, Metroid: Other M is coming out in 2 weeks! He who is a Metroid fan, hyped for this game and isn't playing Super Metroid (or any other Metroid) to celebrate the oncoming game SUUUUUUCKS is a disgrace to Metroid Fans! Go to Youtube and Listen to your Favorite Songs! Here's Mine! (well, I already converted it into a BRSTM to listen to it on the BrawlBox... while it loops!)

I just picked up Super Metroid on VC a few days ago (never even played it before) and beat it. It's funny really, because I wasn't even thinking about Other M when I got that. I like the Speed Booster power-up. That really would have worked will in the Prime games (granted, that there's a change in camera angle 3rd-person-style when it's being used). But I thought I saw something similar in the first trailer of Other M...

._.
Bring your Wii to your Parent's Room (because those things always have personal bathrooms), bring 4-5 2L Pepsi bottles (or whatever quenches your thirst), a few Large Sized Bag of Chips and Lock yourself in. Emerge only when you've beaten the game.
Hopefully the provisions will last...

Few new details and impressions from ONM. - roughly 15 hours long if you rush through and don't explore - "the gaming equivalent of a Michael Bay movie, a white knuckle thrill ride that grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go." - concern over Concentration move, which might be tricky to pull off during battle - over-the-shoulder sections seem clunky and slow the pace down - more tense silence than pounding music, but it does pick up during action sequences - some music choices seem strange for a Metroid game - "One of the tight, most memorable setting in a Metroid game." gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=133467I'am not familiar with Michael Bay or his movies but judging by all the comments in GoNintendo it sounds like its a really bad thing. The live-action commercial is confirmed, teaser image. GoNintendo: There's a Metroid: Other M official live-action commercial floating around out there. Right now, the only way to see it is to be lucky enough to stumble upon it on GameTrailers.com. It will play as an ad before one of the video features you watch. I have not been able to see the ad for myself, so all I've seen is the image posted above. Hopefully someone will capture the commercial soon.Anyone who have read the Metroid 2002 manga will know what scene this is from. I have also read the manga many times before so the moment I saw this I knew immediately where this flashback was from. NOTE (from MDb): The commercial is not - I repeat NOT - on GameTrailers anymore, nor was it stuck on YouTube, so there's absolutely no point in clicking a dozen movies to try and see it. Not unless you want to see that godawful Skittles commercial a million times. I swear, after seeing that just once, I'm never going to eat Skittles again... The commercial will be all over the place in a couple weeks.

Aww man, they replaced Jennifer Hale? That sucks. (Heh, it seems like everything people has to say about this game is its flaws )
