How? He was a Fortress (mini) boss in the original New Super Mario Bros. Which was the equivalent of the Boom-Boom in SMB3.
In SMB3 the Koopalings were world bosses... In fact they were always world bosses. And fortresses were always guarded by Boom-Booms, or in New Super Mario Bros. they were guarded by Bowser Jr.

Koopaul, you bring up an excellent point.
This game better have Boom-Boom in it.
(Also, not really Spud. That's basically what he was in NSMB. He's a tenacious little bugger.)

I'd love to see him use different sorts of contraptions thorough out the game instead of the run back and forth boom boom style...thing.

Oh yeah he doesn't do what the Boom-Boom does. But his role was the same.
Also Bowser Jr. appeared 9 times in that game for a fight. I don't think that's too much of a lowly position.

Jr isn't minor storywise. He's the mastermind behind New SMB DS.
And why can't we have both Koopalings and Junior? Like, Junior playing a more important role fighting next to Bowser. Or have him command over the Koopalings.
Somehow I think Junior is more about his mind than simple doorguard-style fighter. He plans attack, commands over creatures much largr than him and such.

According to Miyamoto, you WON'T be able to play multiplayer over WiFi. Which is pretty disappointing. Unfortunately, no online mode in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, by the way. Miyamoto just confirmed. Wii is already being overpowered by what's happening on screen in New Super Mario Bros Wii. So no power left for online. - wii.ign.com/articles/989/989996p1.htmlIs it really that busy? More so than, say, Super Smash Bros. Brawl? Seeing as there are plenty of online games that can handle a lot of on-screen activity and still support online play for other systems, Shiggy's statement about the lack of wifi connectivity seems more like a cover-up for the hilarious state of the Wii's technological limitations and online capabilities. Did you notice how the status of online gaming from this generation reflects that of the last generation's, only proportionally larger? The XBox had many games that supported wifi, PS3 had a handful, while Nintendo shunned the idea completely. This time, almost all 360 games are online-compatible, the PS3 has a good number but is not as thorough, and Nintendo is only dipping their big toe into the pool, ignorant of how successful and ultimately trendsetting wifi connectivity is. Look at how difficult they make it to not only connect to other people, but to befriend them in the first place: two friend codes, one of which changes with every game, a terrible verbal communication method (why not an affordable headset in the place of an expensive, "innovative" peripheral?), and no easy way to send messages to other gamers...oy, vey. Wifi play is an obvious necessity for the modern day, and Nintendo's servers can't handle a game like NSMB because they aren't built for it. Damn, did you see what Fire Flower Toad looked like? That was freaking awesome! (Also, not really Spud. That's basically what he was in NSMB. He's a tenacious little bugger.) I know, but to have him in the same game where he's underneath the Koopa Kids is what does it for me. The Koopa Kids came first and are not only more popular, but more interesting in both design and function. XD So he gets the back seat and he'll fucking like it. ;D

Im still find weird that Nintendo chose two generic toads for players 3 and 4 I guess they don't expect three players to gather together quite often, but even forgetting about Peach,Daisy, Wario or Waluigi, couldn't they give us two non generic Toads like The Toad, Toadette, Toadsworth or Toadbert? I guess I keep complaining about this because there is nothing else to complain about it (at least they didn´t give us Mario in four colors like in Mario Bros for Advance, Four swords or Kirby multilayer style).
P.D.for now on I should refer to Blue and yellow toads as "Pipo and Pepo" that way at last they shall have names.

Let's hope they aren't final. People should be given the chance to choose their characters.
But it's still unlikely for any spinoffer to get in a main game.

I hold Waluigi's Taco Stand to be a permanent business for him.
Most likely the Toads will stick. This isn't a Mario RPG so they won't be giving us any snappy new characters. Wario is separate from the Mario mainstream games now, and so is DK. I guess maybe Peach or Bowser Junior if they really wanted to put bonus stuff in.
Watch it be Pay and Play content. Hot Dog!

But Peach and Toad are TOTALLY canon. Especially since Mario 2 is an internationally released game AND it has become completely absorbed into the Marioverse. All they have to do is change one of the two Toads into THE Toad and throw on Peach. I don't care if they have special abilities or stats to set them apart; it's just a change of model. It's not that HARD, Nintendo. Ughhhh... they go so far, and they NEVER finish the marathon. They're like a muscular fat kid.

...its really not at all an issue. It would be nice to have some non generic characters (Wario and Waluigi specifically - to hell with Peach and Toad), but its not worth whining incessantly about.

It's not that HARD, Nintendo. Maybe that will actually happen. Peach could be some sort of bonus character, Luigi being one in New Super Mario Bros. Does anybody know how do players choose who to play as anyway? In the footage from the E3 they focused the players instead of the screen when they were preparing.

I'm with you, that's their official names and everyone will use them or else you will die.And HONESTLY, PEOPLE. You guys could bitch about anything. XD NSMB is less character-driven than a Mario Kart game, and the only difference they'd serve would be cosmetic. I don't know about the rest of you but I really want to play as the Toads, and I'm glad Peach, Daisy and Waluigi aren't clogging up the gotdamn screen with their repulsiveness. XD I wouldn't mind Wario, though, and Yoshi's a pretty good candidate since he hasn't really ever split off from the Mario franchise in the first place...but that doesn't mean I'm going to whine about the fact that they're not in. (I like Toad more than Yoshi anyway, so it works.)

They ride Yoshis in the trailer, will we see that kind of... ability? ^_^ Just to prevent being misinterpreted, I regard the idea about Peach as something that would make sense; it's not like I'm a fanboy of her or whatever.

Together, Pipo and Pepo could be known as the "Toad Bros.". ...Wait a minute, weren't there already some characters called that in some previous Mario game? Here's hoping that the Yoshis will have their SMW color-coded functionality back.
