The menu system does seem to be a little confusing, especially in battles. The tutorial that explained chain attacks didn't say anything about how to initiate them, so it wasn't until I saw the tutorial for the Monado powers that I realized I had to press up/down while highlighting the "main" icon to access more battle options. (Also, up until that time, I was confused about how to "properly" run away from battles.)
All this time I've been seeing videos of the battle system and wondering what the heck was going on. Now it seems that it is, in fact, a little messy.

Have you tried checking the tutorial page, for "new" tutorials? I beilieve not all of them "pop up" when the situation calls for them, or sometime they explain stuff in more detail.

Yeah, I noticed all the extra tutorials, but the "how to run away" tutorial hadn't yet been added at the time I was actually looking for it. At least it popped up automatically when it was available.

Few more tips
- Trade with NPC's, or at least look at what they want to trade (very handy for sidequests). - Use a different a party leader from time to time, (in battle and also for accepting/completing sidequests to help build affinity with other party members). - You can give "presents" to party members to help build their affinity for one another. - Higher affinity gives you more skills (from skill trees) you can "link" with others. - Also remember to look at your characters Skill tree, to make sure you have accidently foucsed entirely on one branch, a fully completed skill tree will not switch another (uncompleted) branch without your input. - In battle, party members have "limited" commands (Attack freely, Attack My Target, Come to my position)

Got my copy from Nintendo today. Won't be able to try it for a little while, but I'm happy to own it!

Thanks for the tips, Robot! The game is... kinda overwhelming. If I wanted to play a hardcore RPG, I guess I got one!
Is there really a New Game+? Considering how long the game is supposed to be, I imagine you'd have to really like it to play thru it multiple times.

The game is indeed very overwhelming at the start, with so much stuff to learn and do. There going to probably be something your forgotten about, might be a good idea to go and check out every single option from the menu. And Xenoblade does have a New Game+ feature.

Just got the game, unfortunately its a double layered disk, which means my Wii will have trouble reading it during summer.Form what I managed to play yesterday it was great,I specially love the sountrack, and I hope that if someone from this game gets into brawl they keep its british voice actor, thats part of the charm of this game to me.

I love how everyone outside of Europe is praising the British voice acting. I don't know if that's a credit to the British actors or a slam against American actors, but I suspect it's a little of both. American dubbing does have a certain vibe to it that's gotten a bit old and cliched. If nothing else, the British dub is a breath of fresh air for the same reason some people simply prefer the original Japanese voices.
Personally, I think it's an excellent localization, and I hope Nintendo of Europe handles more international localizations in the future (in addition to The Last Story and [possibly] Pandora's Tower, of course).

If your desperate to clean it, you could try this method. (The comments seem to indicate quite a few XC users having the problem). This might void your warrenty if it screws up though. XC does seem to stream alot of data from the disk, whenever I made a character jump in game, I would hear the disk drive spin faster (anyone else have that happen to them?)

In good sales news . . . According to VGChartz, XC has sold 207K in the US in just 3 weeks. While on the other hand Europe sold 174k and Japan 158k units have been sold. Xenoblade has sold 605k units world wide according to VGChartz. operationrainfall.com/xenoblade-breaks-the-200k-mark-after-3-weeks/Wow, looks like it WAS a good call to release the game in the US huh? Just imagine the US sales if people didn't import or pirate it.

One might argue that the publicity it got from not being released in NA contributed to its sales once it did. After all, where were all these people when Sin & Punishment 2 came out? If it had had the backing of an Operation Rainfall, would it have sold better? (To their credit, they have given it a glowing retroactive review.) Gamer apathy might have been Xenoblade's biggest obstacle.

To be fair, VG Chartz does not source their numbers, so we have no idea how accurate they may or may not be. I do think it did fairly well, as in my town there was roughly ten preorders for it at my EB, and only seven of them got the art book

VG Chartz is speculative (which rubs a lot of people the wrong way), and their estimates are derived from surveying various retailers. In this case, there's only one retailer for them to survey: GameStop. (Nintendo sure isn't gonna tell them anything.) So, perhaps their numbers aren't too far off the mark.

This probably can't be viewed outside North America, but Reggie answered some Twitter questions while at the set for Light Night with Jimmy Fallon last week. One of the questions was what games he was currently playing. He said Xenoblade Chronicles and Mario Tennis Open. Nice little acknowledgement there. You can see the video here: gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=179549
