Graphically this game looks fantastic, definitely a title for the Zelda team to study.
I hope Sakaguchi can make this into a great game. I really hope he looks back at classic RPG's and remembers the time before Nomura ruined the genre.

Wait are you sure this is Nintendo IP? Because it seems more like it isn't...

It's trademarked by Nintendo in all territories, the copyright is split between Nintendo and Mistwalker, and publishing is done by Nintendo. Generally when the copyright is held like that it indicates that Nintendo does have control over the IP. Look at Baten Kaitos Origins and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles as games that are published by Nintendo, but the copyright is held by other companies.
This doesn't mean that Nintendo owns The Last Story as a franchise, but it does signify that they are highly invested in this particular game.

Ah yes well normally I don't care but ever since Smash, I've become conscience of "what is Nintendo and what isn't?"
You know when fan rosters rear their ugly heads, arguments on what's a third party title show up.

I understand the feeling, I used to be on a forum dedicated to Brawl when it was first announced in 2005. We had debates about this all the time.
I think if this game sells well in Japan, Nintendo will absolutely do everything in their power to control the IP if they don't already own it.

It's one of those things NinDB has always had to worry about. Nintendo properties and Nintendo-published games are two very different areas. I've migrated the site towards Nintendo properties, as nobody gave a damn about the massive pile of "other" games.

Well, I've been doing some looking for about 10 minutes. And it seems like whenever Mistwalker makes a franchise, the ownership is partly kept by their partners to some degree; Microsoft controls Blue Dragon for example. I think for now we can consider TLS under Nintendo's control until proved otherwise.

Here are some screens from a Japanese ad. It's a bit hard to tell if they're CGI or in-game. I kinda expected the game to have a bit more color, but it still looks pretty good.

Stealing my RPG thread thunder, are you!? Heh, I jest. A very nice trailer indeed. Those first screenshots had me a bit worried, as they didn't look very much like the concept art in my opinion, (I expected the game to be a bit more colorful, I suppose.) but now, after seeing the game in motion, I am very much liking the look of the it. Now just give us an English release date plzkthx.

Very beautiful. Well worth the wait! I'm really digging the environments - the area at the beginning really reminded me of the Mines of Moria in Fellowship of the Ring, which is a great thing! Now all I need is a NA release date and I'll be happy.

Wow, now an RPG game is using a cover based gameplay mechanic.
But does look like it's used well (and some stealth action!)
Please let this game (and Xenoblade) get released outside of Japan. There are quite a lot of English used for status effects, so a possibe sign of translation (but Japanese can understand English).
Only iffy thing about game so far, is that the walking NPC townpeople bumping into one another look weird.

I don't actually think it's a full-on RPG in the sense that we're used to. It looks more like an adventure-RPG like Kingdom Hearts.
WHAT IS THAT SONG SHE HUMS AT THE END IT IS SO FAMILIAR.

That's the theme played in the official site she's humming.
This game seems to be shaping up really well. I only wish the game was more colourful than what it is.

About the chance of Last Story seeing a localization, well according to this Mistwalker account from Twitter: " You will found it out by the end of this month." gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=129839
