Looking back toward some of my posts (2006-2007), it was pretty clear I was a different person back then. I was a shameless Nintendo fanboy. Looking back, I really expected the PS3 to fail and for Wii to become a winning console, finally defeating the PlayStation for once and for all. Third parties (Rockstar!) would join the Wii, Sony PlayStation games would join the Virtual Console, and Project HAMMER would be a blast to play.
Unfortunately, that never happened. During 2008 and 2009 I watched as despite Wii sales soaring, no real "games" were made. I watched Wii Music drop off the radar and reappear as some cheesy Guitar Hero-type knockoff. I watched Wii Fit fly off the shelves, but I wanted something I could actually play. Meanwhile, I saw PS3 games and Xbox 360 games fly off the shelves, and they looked cool. Plus the PS3 can play Blu-ray discs.
The fanboy in me didn't die suddenly, he died a slow, painful death. By 2010 I was writing a bitter three-part essay on the Wii and why I was quite close to writing it off for good.
I haven't gotten to the point where I proclaim that the Wii will be Nintendo's last console (I'd be a fool to do that, too) but I am pretty frustrated with the Wii...
What about you?

You know, I'd like more gamer's games as much as the next guy, but to be fair, it's pretty nice to see Nintendo on top of the dog pile this round.
Besides, I still have buttloads of old games to catch up on, so it doesn't really bother me so much that we're apparently not getting enough new games (even though the Wii has plenty of 'em, like NSMBWii, Punch-Out!!, A Boy and His Blob, Metroid Prime 3, Brawl, SMG, etc.)

It's a bit sad that Wii games are mostly shovelware and "non-games" but the Wii does have some good third party games (Madworld, No More Heroes) that the GameCube and N64 lacked. Admittedly, they had good games, but can you name one major, fun game from the N64/GCN era that wasn't published by Nintendo or its subsidiaries?

The Wii opted to print money, and in doing so lost the respect of fans.
I'm kind of glad though. Nintendo fans used to blindly worship Nintendo and play nothing besides Nintendo games. Now that there are no new Nintendo games, what'll they play? Other games. This means that No More Heroes, Okami, and Resident Evil sales will go up.

This is a bittersweet result, actually. As our Kafkaesque friend says, Okami, No More Heroes, and Resident Evil are golden games that may have just been blips on the radar if not for this first party quality drought. We prayed for victory in our tribulation and we got it, now we have to reap the fruits, good and bad.

name one major, fun game from the N64/GCN era that wasn't published by Nintendo or its subsidiaries Perfect Dark/Timesplitters 2 despite Wii sales soaring, no real "games" were made I think Fry already made a post about this not too long ago, but there's more than plenty of good/HARDCORE Wii games if you look between the shovelshit.

I had pretty much the same thing happen to me in 2006-2007, Mr. M. That the PS3 was going to be crud and the Wii was going to take us to Videogame paridise. After a year, I noticed I was still playing Super Smash Bros. Melee on my Wii and only bought one Wii game, Twilight Princess, and I didn't find it as awesome as other Zeldas (good, almost great, but Zelda games have always been at least epic for me).
Then Brawl came out, and I still play it feverishly, but not as much as the first few months. To say the truth, my discovery on hacks in Brawl and how easy it was made me take up Brawling again (that, and the fact that I got a few Brawl buddies at my university).
A few months after Brawl, though, I noticed I wasn't enjoy videogames as much as I used to enjoy them years ago. I'm still a big Pokémon nerd and a Smash addict, but beyond that, I wasn't enjoying myself as I used to. I thought I was going to be extremely hyped up for Metroid: Other M, as I know I'm a big Metroid Fan... but I noticed that I only really love Metroid Prime, Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion. While the Cutscenes looked great on the side of story (I really just don't give a crap about graphics, I've played many Xbox 360 games and a few PS3 games, and I only notice myself saying: "meh, they're fun alright, but I don't see why every Graphics nerd cares so much about the graphics." I do have my standards, of course, but I don't care about it as much as others), the actual gameplay... idk, that Trailer makes me put on my "Meh..." face. I just hope I'm wrong...
Anyway, I think I'm just bored with games (same goes for games on other systems, example: I've played Halo 2/3 and the such, but I don't play for more than 2 hours, and that's with 3 friends with me), since I already beat NSMBW, and I just don't feel like playing it again. I think that was my shortest 50 dollars ever (fun, but WAAAAAY too short). I hope 2010 turns things around, because I don't want to be playing only Pokémon and SSB game...
Where art thou, StarFox Wii/Kirby Wii/Pikmin 3/F-Zero Wii?

Admittedly, they had good games, but can you name one major, fun game from the N64/GCN era that wasn't published by Nintendo or its subsidiaries? You asked, and I shall deliver. N64 - Body Harvest (Midway ended up publishing it), International Superstar Soccer 98, Resident Evil 2, Ogre Battle 64 (Atlus published it here) GC - Resident Evil 4, Skies of Arcadia Legends, Capcom Vs. SNK 2 EO, Beyond Good and Evil, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, Tales of Symphonia, Second Sight, Gun, Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, SSX 3 And those are just the ones I've played and kept. There's a heap more that I didn't mention. Just to cover the N64's other titles of at least enjoyable quality... Bomberman 64, Mega Man 64, Harvest Moon 64, Mystical Ninja 64, Goemon's Great Adventure, the various Star Wars titles, the Tony Hawk ports, Doom 64, Quake 64 and Quake II, Snowboard Kids and its sequel, the Turok games, the Extreme G titles, etc. I think I covered enough GC games that I own to not spiral into more. I understand your point, Mr. Molecule, but third parties DID put out solid gaming opps for the N64 and GC, but you had to look past Nintendo to play them. It's easier now for the Wii because Nintendo's not focusing on gamer's games as much anymore, but it merely takes one opening their eyes to see that Ninty's never been the only player the last few gens.

Hm another "Nintendo, why hath thou forsaken me?" thread eh?
I understand now why all those good core games for the Wii don't sell, people are too busy complaining that they don't exist to actually buy them!
Seriously I own a lot of good Wii games and no they aren't Wii Fit and Sports Resort.
For one Excitebots, a neglected game forced off the shelves that i thought was somewhat better than Mario Kart Wii.
Little King's Story, oh god Little King's Story! You want Pikmin goodness while you wait for the real deal? Play this game!
There's quite a few, you're just too busy crying to notice.
Also Shadrio I have an answer as too why games are too short these days. You're just too good! I started noticing myself that games were extremely short and I thought game developers were getting lazy until I went back and played some old games. Back when I was a littler Koopaul, Super Mario 64 lasted me a WHOLE year and a half! That's right. But upon revisiting it the game merely lasted a week even with my schedule!
The game hadn't changed I was just a better gamer now. I beat them incredibly fast without even trying. That's why games are short.

I'm going to have to agree with Koopaul. Whenever a good "gamer's game" is released, it doesn't sell well. The constant moaning of "hardcore gamers" is becoming a real nuisance.
All at once, I agree that Nintendo fanboys should broaden their horizons.

I point out something that will sound like a paradox but really isn't when explained: Shovelware is good for core gamers. See, it's a bit like fiber, it makes crap flow. Too little, the system comes off as nerdy and only core gamers go to it. Meanwhile, the shovelware is on another system and everyone goes there. Lower fanbase means lower quality core games, and coupled with a dwindling fanbase, it's constipated. Too much fiber and you get diarrhea and nutrients get lost. Same thing here, you miss great core games bemoaning the low core:casual:total ratio.

Hm another "Nintendo, why hath thou forsaken me?" thread eh? I understand now why all those good core games for the Wii don't sell, people are too busy complaining that they don't exist to actually buy them! Well said. Gotten tired of this sort of thing myself, and I'd say that it's largely in part of people thinking that Smash Bros. is the be-all and end-all of all things Nintendo (or at least being tricked into thinking that), which it really isn't. Just because a game isn't of an ever-so-beloved Smash-represented franchise doesn't mean it sucks. Nintendo fanboys gotta, as Old Buzzard said, broaden their horizons more. Sure, I'd like another Kirby, Star Fox, etc. game as much as the next guy would, but just keep looking for other games! Something well worth your while will certainly turn up; THE SMASH IS A LIE Ah, Wii Sports Resort was a good game, what with more incentive to keep at playing it with the stamps and all, plus the whole feel of it being more of a full game. I've also got Okami to tide me over well for the time being, and if possible in finding this eventually, Tatsunoko vs Capcom. Hahaha. I never thought of it that way before, but now that you mention it, I can see that very well. As a wee Boo Destroyer as well, I failed a lot at playing most games, but going on these years, I seemed to have just outright mastered them as it is! Glad I can now see the cause of finishing most games so fast like that nowadays.

Besides, the NES and Playstation were the top sellers of their respective generations and hey had piles and piles of shovelware. I'm afraid I'll have to disagree with that. The shovelware load on Nintendo consoles have steadily gotten worse: GCN had some bad games, but at least they were all games sold toward semi-normal people. N64 had even less (but likely toward very few relative games on the console), SNES had more than the N64 because it had more games, but they were all "notably bad": Bebe's Kids, "Health Heroes", etc. NES really didn't have any bad games except mediocre licensed games (Back to the Future, both games), kids games (Fisher Price), and the abysmal Color A Dinosaur. Then again, there are games that I'd love to play again. I actually never beat SM64 or Zelda OOT, and I'm playing both of those on the VC. And they're really quite fun! Secondly, I am NOT whining about lack of hardcore games on the Wii or the lack of Nintendo releases. The Wii has a host of other problems I think that prevent it from being a good console. The control system has proved to be a major impediment, I think.
