Hmm, it seems Cranky is kinda out of character if he is selling extra lives. Didn't he just bitch about how easy the SNES games were compared to the arcade games? Why would he make the Wii game easier?  Also, LOL at the reason why Kongs aren't in the game: "This game also cuts down dramatically on the number of Kong characters, which had swelled to included everything from giant babies (referring to Kiddy Kong) to disturbingly voluptuous furry vixens (referring to Candy Kong and Tiny Kong). We much prefer the simplified, back-to-basics cast, which includes only Cranky Kong in addition to Donkey and Diddy. The game is still lighthearted and funny, but without coming across as a goofy kid's cartoon." Way to flip the bird at the furries, Retro Studios. Very subtle.  |

Yeah um...Nintendo Power wrote that, not Retro. For all we know, some other Kongs could still be in the game somewhere, but there's no way to tell. Even if Retro did cut the cast back, I'm pretty sure they had a good reason for it.

New gameplay clip: I still find that chicken-on-stilts enemy hilarious. Great footage! Music wasn't so hot though (it sounds pretty quiet) but otherwise this was great. Also, what Dinosaur said above, NP wrote that, not Retro. Although I don't mind the cutting at all. I never cared about any other Kongs beside Diddy, Dixie and Cranky. |

I don't know if NP has a history of spouting things before double checking it as fact, but if they wrote THE ONLY OTHER KONG in their big preview I figure they probably got the info/confirmation from an official source.

Now that Squawks appears to be an item of some sort from Cranky's shop, I do wonder what he'll do?
Now that he can't fulfill his DKC2 and 3 purpose as an animal buddy...Can't do what he did in DKC1. No dark levels in there it seems, so that would be an utter waste of a shop item.
If anyone's played any Mega Man game, Squawks would be just like Beat in that he could promptly help DK (and Diddy) back up out a pit should you fall into one.

Bah, perhaps I'm getting way ahead of myself.
Rest assured, if there are any dark levels, then there may be other means of lighting them up, depending on how they're laid out.

This game just keeps getting better and better (seriously DK and Diddy riding on a minecart whilst moles chuck stuff at you = awesome (to me at least)).

The moles remind me of Hard Hat from Donkey Kong Land, like, a lot. I wonder if that is intentional? The frogs make me think of Jungle Beat as well.
