I just noticed the "rolling off the platform + midair jump" technique is still in the game. I don't remember it ever being explained in manuals (maybe it was in the strategy guides?), but it used to be very handy in all 3 games.

It was actually explained by Cranky Kong himself in DKC1 and by Wrinkly in DKC2. It was such an integral mechanic they couldn't leave it out.

Here's something I think the internet hasn't quite picked up on about this game (from Official Nintendo Magazine). You know how DK Vine members are wondering if the other Kongs and map screens are like the SNES games and in? Well: With the usual barrel-full of collectibles, cameos from other Kongs and blasting about, this is a real fan-pleaser. www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/article.php?id=18165Does this suggest Cranky, Funky, Dixie, etc? I also wrote my own article about what I want to see in DK Country Returns, but I'm not gonna post the link.

Partly to know if anyone actually does want to read it, because it's bad forum etiquette to post a link to something you wrote because it's advertising.

Yeah... Post the link, or if your text is tidy enough, you could copy or quote it when you don't want to post a link.

dsultimate.net/Board/upload/blog/1/entry-1294-ten-things-donkey-kong-country-returns-needs-to-be-successful/But to be concise, what I mean is that Donkey Kong Country Returns, to be really a good successor needs to realise Donkey Kong Country isn't just tropical forests and mine carts. All the earlier games had non typical settings and enemies alongside the nature themed ones and tropical areas. Snow levels, factory levels, haunted hall, ship levels, castle levels, swamp levels and levels inside of a bee hive. I'm just worried a bit that Returns will just be fighting oversized animals as bosses and going through tropical jungles every second level when the earlier games had quite a lot of variety.

Partly to know if anyone actually does want to read it, because it's bad forum etiquette to post a link to something you wrote because it's advertising. To clear it up before it gets confusing, it's okay to link us to something of yours, but inappropriate if you actively asked us to join, unless it tied into the community here. For example: ACCEPTABLE: Linking to an article you've written off-site. UNACCEPTABLE: Advertising for another forum (particularly one that you own) and encouraging members to join, particularly within the context of just wanting more members. (The "UNACCEPTABLE" example above does not extend to, say, forum recommendations. Like if I was part of a Jet Grind Radio forum, I could recommend it to other JGR fans on the site, and that would be considered acceptable..)

I'm still not understanding this "staying true to the original" BS. SMB3 deviated from SMB1. Then SMW deviated from SMB3. SM64 from SMW, etc. etc. Would you like it at all if every Mario game afterward was exactly like SMB1? Didn't think so. Unless, of course...

SM64 from SMW, etc. etc. Would you like it at all if every Mario game afterward was exactly like SMB1? Didn't think so. Unless, of course... Except no Mario games has had completely different enemies to the first one after SMB 2 (US/world wide version). No Mario game has had less types of environments than the first, few Mario games have been without Yoshi and animal buddy equivalents and there's a lot of recycled and remixed music. Your point? As for why people want it true to the original... well, think of it from the DK fan's perspective. They had Jungle Beat which was exactly that kind of 'change' in everything, and they rightfully hated it. They don't want Returns to be anything like that. At least, the DKU members don't. And a lot of people didn't like the Mario World to 64 progression. A certain internet writer I read says people outright boycotted 3D Mario, as evident from the sales of New Super Mario Bros Wii in contrast to Super Mario Galaxy.

Well the DKU isn't as picky as we assume they are. If Diddy Kong was in Jungle Beat they would have liked it a whole lot more.
