...you know, I totally forgot about their concert parts.
I stand partially corrected, then. Pretty much everything else is them just recycling the same front/side shots and animating their mouths, like they were made in Flash.

The style really doesn't seem THAT different from Dexter's Lab or Flapjack, but maybe I'm not looking at it right or something But the style alone doesn't explain why it's so insanely popular with older dudes. I've seen 2 episodes, they were okay but not that different from, say, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. I don't remember that being so damn popular, which leads me to believe a lot of dudes just really dig the pink unicorns

I don't remember that being so damn popular, which leads me to believe a lot of dudes just really dig the pink unicorns I gotta say but only two out of the six of the main cast are unicorns . . . and none of those unicorns are pink . . . The reason for the shows popularity stem from 4chan/co/ (text from Know Your Meme)On October 10, 2010, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic was aired as part of the debut of the new television network, The Hub, which ended up replacing Discovery Kids. On October 19, 2010, Cartoon Brew wrote an article about the show entitled, The End of the Creator-Driven Era in TV Animation, which had an oddly alarmist tone to it. Threads on 4chan’s comic and cartoon board, /co/, attacked and made fun of the article for this reason. The article and the threads generated /co/’s initial interest in the show, causing several members to go and watch the first episode. After the second episode aired on October 22nd, threads about the Ponies started to boom even more, gaining the show fans outside of its target demographic. While /co/ initially loved the series because of the artwork and animation, fans on /b/ seemed to enjoy the plot and characters more. The “cute and cuddly” nature of this show is the opposite of what members of /b/ like to think of themselves as.Episodes can be easily found on YouTube, more often than not in HD. YouTube user MrYaridovich, who in addition to contributing much to the Bronie community via his videos, runs a 24/7 synchtube stream dedicated to playing episodes of the show. Since the show generates more profits through merchandise than it does actual viewership, Hasbro has not removed any episodes posted online as of yet. Many of the comments on youtube videos of the series show genuine appreciation for the show:In summary: -Likeable characters (that are manly female, compared to most other cartoons) and probaly helps make the show stand compared to with a majority male cast. -Nice plots, that were aimed at attracting everyone. -Nice art and animation (from Flash) -Easy avalibility of episodes on Youtube, which haven't been removed, which allows fans to easily convince non fans to watch the show. - Show provides great moments for GIFs and screen cap image memes . . . And fans keep remixing the songs/music from the show. Winter Wrap up anybody . . . ? Or would you like that in 8 bit?

SEVEN OF NINE ISNT A ROBOT SHE'S A BORG, PAY ATTENTION DAD So basically 4chan shutins started watching/praising a cartoon just to spite another high horse douche at Cartoon Brew? That would explain all those annoying gifs spreading all over the place. Atleast it's for a good cause, aka pissing off Cartoon Brew

I've never been the biggest fan of this new modern style. Huge heads with tiny snouts and mouths. Doesn't even look remotely pony-like.
Also I can't enjoy shows with nearly an entire female cast... I'm terrible I know. But yeah.

It wasn't just to spite CB. It's a legitimately decent show, for the reasons cited.
Most of those GIFS are from Something Awful, not 4chan, BTW. They've had two threads about the show that spawned most of them. Sadly, the haters totally killed those threads, resulting in them being gassed.

At a young age, I usually watch what came on and what was gaining popularity. As I grew older, I began to lose interest in nearly every animated series I see on television, thanks to my relatives for telling me to do adult things like get out of my room, find a job, socialize, etc. However, sometimes when I'm planning to eat, I see my step-sister's boyfriend watching either Family Guy or King of the Hill and sometimes join in. In some restaurants, I sometimes see either CN or another children's channel turned on. It kind of bothered me. One time when I asked the waitress to change the channel, she was going to, but my big sister (not step-sister) told me not to. Some animated shows I can remember enjoy watching throughout my life were: * Muppet Babies - I believe I've seen every episode. I used to enjoy it, but now I don't. Looking back at it brings horrid memories. * Some Mario shows - Some episodes were enjoyable, some were so annoying, I don't want to think about them. I enjoyed the ending theme of The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3. * Video Power's "The Power Team" - I feel sorry for it not being well preserved. Saying it's a rip-off of Captain N is like saying the VS. Capcom series is a rip-off of the Konami Wai Wai World series. It usually aired as early as 6 AM. However, I didn't know its USA Network counterpart Acclaim Masters existed. * X-Men (Fox Kids version) - My brother introduced me to the X-Men series back when this animated series was announced. Back then, when I first saw it's intro, it sounded kind of funny probably because of my brother being like "This series is GOOD!" He usually collected X-Men and other Marvel cards for a few years. He even collected one of the X-Men episodes given out to Pizza Hut customers in VHS format. I still have his cards and VHS tape. Watching that show with him felt the same way as watching Family Guy and King of the Hill with my step-sister's boyfriend. * Batman: The Animated Series - Another one of my brother's favorites that he wanted me to watch with him, but I can't remember watching it as much as X-Men. When I think of it, I think of the Double Dragon film, due to having one of the people work on both the animated series and the film. * Pokemon anime - Back in its first-run syndication, I saw the list of stations it was planned to air on in one of the six "Pokemon Power" issues that was included in a Nintendo Power issue, and I didn't see it pop up on Fox Kids, but I noticed it aired at 6 AM according to this "TV Guide" one of my grandmothers had, just like Video Power airing early. It created happy memories. Later, it changed from 6 AM to 2 PM. When the first film was announced, it moved to Kids' WB, due to Warner Bros. being the official distributor of the film. As it gained popularity, I believe it started to bother my parents and big sister. Because of that, I started to lose interest in the whole Pokemon franchise. Several years later, in the middle of the first Pokemon DP era, I started gaining my interest in the series when the download events came, while Johans became helpful and when I noticed that Satoshi Tajiri has some similarities to me. Most notably, both of us are Aspies. Pokemon Black & White is one of the few animated shows I still watch on television today. * Some Fox Box / 4Kids TV shows - Mainly Kirby: Right Back At Ya and F-ZERO: GP Legend, because they were Nintendo related. I recorded every or nearly every episode in VHS format, because I didn't have a DVD recorder nor a DVR back then. Sometimes I became curious about other shows like Fighting Foodons, Sonic X, and especially the 2K3 TMNT and Ultimate Muscle: The Kinnikuman Legacy.

I wouldn't say moments to spam as memes would be a GOOD reason For the record I'm not hating on the cartoon, I'm just trying to figure out why it's so damn popular compared to Lauren Faust's previous stuff. I still suspect it has to do with hipsters liking it ironically because of gay unicorns. And yeah, a lot of stuff from the 90's aged pretty terribly, but the incredible cheesiness still makes it a fun watch sometimes. Or just watch some stupidity compilations instead

still suspect it has to do with hipsters liking it ironically because of gay unicorns. See, I still don't get this. I mean, normally I'm the king of raging ignorance, but it doesn't even sound like you're giving this show a chance. Instead, you're just thrashing it on principal; you wonder what's so awesome about it, but when somebody tries to explain it to you, you push them away and fall back on hatin' due to the general stereotype.

Maybe, watching it I just don't see the appeal like a lot of other people apparently do (nor the reasons listed). Ahwell, in the end to each his own really. And who knows, maybe over time I warm up to it and I end up being a converted pony meme spammer much like you all of a sudden started praising AVGN

Now in non-pony related posts I'm been watching episodes of Disney's Gargoyles on Youtube (LINK!)And I can say it's a pretty damn good series, that pretty mature for what usually comes out of Disney. It was created by Greg Weismen who would go on to be a scriptwriter for series such as WITCH and Kim Possible. And was supervising producer for The Spectacular Spider-Man until its cancellation, and is now producing the new Young Justice animated series. Also I just recently found out that every episode of the anime Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is available legally on Youtube. Offocial channel link!
