And I can say it's a pretty damn good series, that pretty mature for what usually comes out of Disney. See, I've always had a lot of love for Disney for being one of the very small number of companies who made shows and movies which didn't talk down to me as a kid. I assume things are different now, but at the time Gargoyles was made, I never thought of it as being uncharacteristically mature of them.

I've noticed that the stereotypes surrounding Disney are far more perpetuated that what the company's output has actually been. I'd say the things people say about them really only apply to their recent output (those blasted Tinkerbell movies....yeech).

Heh, yeah, I guess it applies pretty well to all of the DisneyToon studio movies, actually. I've always avoided their stuff (though I did really like the DuckTales movie, the Goofy movie and that Mickey, Donald & Goofy Three Musketeers one).

I loved Gargoyles. It was one of the few cartoons that treated kids like adults while still remaining kid-friendly; I put it right in line next to Batman: the Animated Series as one of the best cartoons ever made. While Disney wasn't nearly as sugar-coated then as it is now, its stories were darker and edgier than their usual stuff, and it put a new spin on Arthurian lore - including King Arthur himself. That's pretty damn awesome.

In terms of "mature" it had features such as (minor) blood, usage of (bullet shooting) guns and the consequences of gun use, and a realistic, very clever villain who had to operate against real world laws (and early on gets a 6 month prison sentence because of it) who thinks and plans way ahead of time. The final episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is on tommorowAnd in something you guys haven't seen before, Fot and AngusIt's a small series of 2 minute animated shorts starring the voice talents of Rhys Darby. They were cut up and aired within a longer live action skit comedy show shown here in NZ. (This explains why, there's quite a few cuts during each episode)

All of those things showed up in DuckTales, Rescue Rangers and/or Darkwing Duck, though. I don't remember any specific blood in any of them, but I wouldn't be surprised seeing as it's not particularly uncommon in Disney.

There's a very different cartoony vibe with the three you mentioned compared to those 5 films. Kinda similar to Mario - Zelda I'd say. Blood in Zelda? Ocassionally. Blood in Mario? Never ever everrrr
Anyway here's an eerie cartoon about some alien tribe. (It has alien blood!)

Never ever everrrr Not really... In fact, I'd say DuckTales was pretty close to Aladdin tone-wise. If anything, Aladdin was more cartoony, thanks to the Genie. The Mickey Mouse universe stuff is pretty broad when it comes to tone. Much broader than Mario is. You get stuff like Mickey, Donald & Goofy shorts which are just fun little comedies, and then you get stories about a young Scrooge McDuck learning about his mother's death by being taunted about it by a group of thugs, and one of Darkwing Duck's villains being killed and later being rescurrected as some kind of cyborg thingy, and then there's this guy, who actually got an on-screen death. But as far as blood goes, all I can specifically remember right now is Donald smothering himself head-to-toe in ketchup to trick his nephews into thinking they'd killed him. Sure, it wasn't actual blood, but the idea's the same.

Sure, it wasn't actual blood, but the idea's the same. Hey I vaguely remember that! Not as bad as actual blood, but in this day and age where bullet hole slapstick is frowned upon I suppose it's crueler than usual The things you mentioned stand out from the usual mellow fare, but Mario has a few of 'em too (that princess lady crying about her dead parents in SMG1, Bowser getting it's skin burnt off in NSMB). Aside from that both feature cartoony figures that fall 50 feet into the ground and flatten like pancakes without breaking a bone. Except for Ducktales now that I think about it. It had a bit more of a serious, adventurous feel. Also the episode where everyone turns into gold statues made me lose my shit

There was a scene where Scrooge storms off around a corner to confront the "ghost", and then we see the shadows of Scrooge being strangled by the ghost until his body goes limp... followed immediately by a commercial break! I was traumatised.

It was the season finale, not the series. In fact, season two was picked up halfway through the first season, and I think they've even bought a third.

In fact, season two was picked up halfway through the first season, and I think they've even bought a third. Probably should have mentioned if was just the final episode of the first season, didn't think it was going to get interpreted that way. Also the shows merchendise driven, kids buying the toys* seem to be more important than viewership. But in terms of viewership, it supposedly the most populor channel on the Hub and also makes good money through commercials as well. * Which are just solid chunks of moleded plastic (no moving parts/joints) that can be recoloured easily and passed off as a "different" pony. Which I assume would be a lot easier to make/design than say a Transformer. (Toy recolouring ain't exactly a new thing by the way, it's been around for ages)
After seeing the final episode, it was good, not the best episode but it had some good humor in it. Also for those that haven't seen it, the Pinkazoid/Freakazoid intro MLP version. (Contains footage that could be possibly deemed spoiler worthy though). EDIT: Here the MLP intro done with Gmod/TF2.

Am I the only one who liked the way the ponies looked in the past? Eh, I'm not a fan of this contemporary cartoon stuff.
