Well that's a lot sooner than I expected. Apparently Valve did another super secret ARG thing involving all kinds of ridiculous shit in order to unlock the first comic for everybody. They thought it'd keep the playerbase busy for a few months, but some guys cracked the code within 12 hours. I wonder if that's the reason they're releasing this literally a week after that kong king update.
Anyway, upgrades? Epic loot? How long until Valve says 'fuck it' and throws in quests and 12 hours dungeon runs

That's the reason. The guys cracking the ARG managed to decode a link to the first comic of this update when they cracked. I know because I helped a buddy of mine crack it. (He did all the work.)

Edmund Mcmillian has released a collection of all his older games in a pack known as The Basement Collection.
All of the games (Aether, Coil, Spewer, Meat Boy*, Grey Matter and Triachnid and 2 bonus games) featured in the collection have been revamped and updated, featuring bonus chapters, new music, art and other extras.
It's only $3.99 (but 30% off for owners of either Gish, SMB or Binding of Isaac).
* It's not Super Meat Boy, it the original prototype.

Anyone live in the Seattle/Bellevue area? Because Valve is looking for playtesters to come to Valve and playtest both released and unreleased versions of their games as well as play around with some of our hardware prototypes. If you have interest in stopping by (most sessions last around an hour). Start by filling out this survey here.Restricted to US for now but international support will arrive in the future.
In games on Steam news, Retro City Rampage is out on Steam.

Feel really annoyed with this years Scream Fortress update, apart from playing on the first day, no one works together enough to help defeat the Wizard Meramus, its incredible how much easier last years event was compared to this one. It's also annoying that there needs to be around 8 huntsman Snipers (minimum) to help take him out.
At least the hidden halloween gift has been fixed with it's private message instead of the public message, and the zombie souls class skins are pretty awesome as well and not too hard to accquire.
Wave 666 MvM is hard as fuck, but at least you start off with $5000 cash to spend which is pretty nice.
Also halloween sale on Stean if anyones interested (for "spooky/horror" games).

I hardly saw the boss' health meter go below 90% whenever I played on the map. He's near impossible unless all 32 players work together to take him down, but that never happens when you've got two sides. Ohwell, the boss drop is really lame anyway
And I only get alerts whenever a gift fades away for some reason.

Two new bundles availalbe for Steam. The former is a SEGA bundle, where you can choose two from Total War 2, Jet Set Radio, Alien Vs. Predator, Binary Domain, Sonic Generations and Renegade Ops for fifteen bucks. The whole shebang is availble for thirty bucks- the normal price of about half the games in the pack. The other is the THQ bundle, which has Darksiders, Red Faction Armegeddon, Metro 2033 and 3 Company of Heroes games. If you beat the average, you get Saints Row the Third as well. Both are great bundles!

How come we don't have a GOG.com thread? I don't Steam, but I GOG. I love GOG. I think I've gotten more free stuff from them than games I actually paid for.

More GOG.com news: they have just added all of the Wing Commander expansion packs. This includes Secret Missions 1 & 2 for WC1, Special Operations 1 & 2 for WC2, and Righteous Fire for Privateer. They're all free updates, so if you've already bought any of the main games from GOG, just re-download them.
I love Wing Commander. Too bad they haven't added Prophecy or Privateer 2 yet.
They've also added Alien Crossfire for Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri.

For some reason, XIII, the old cel shaded FPS, is being removed from GOG's catalog in two days (if you already bought it, it will remain on your account for re-download). So, if you're interested in getting it, now's the time (especially since it's on sale).

I would imagine UBI Soft lost the license; it was a graphic novel or something of the sort if I remember right.
