The new screenshots today featured the Metroid enemies from the original game.

Heheheh, love it. Also the multiplayer of the game involves a Dark Pit... probably can be counted as a reference to the Fallen Angel colors from Brawl? Kinda a post-humous alt cameo, hahah!

The Heavy Centurion has a tattoo of Palutena based off her NES art.

Hmm... That doesn't look like her NES art. It just looks like a chibi-Palutena. Cute though!

The face is chibi, but her headdress is based on what she had in the NES art.

Assuming Palutena is based off of Athena, which I think she is, the shield makes since considering Athena had the Aegis. As for the staff... I dunno. Maybe a royal/god thing.
Edit: Considering Athena's proper name is Pallas Athena, I'd say this is a good call.

The game does have sprites from the original though, such as Hewdraw, which appears on the bottom screen when Pit and Palutena discuss what the enemy used to look like. Also, the game over screen is basically the NES version (font and all). I'm not sure if that kind of stuff counts as cameos here.

Generally, if it's got old sprites then I count it.

Okay, right at the beginning, they also show you the Medusa boss from the original.
Also, forgot to mention this, there's a stat modifier grid where you can equip items, which uses Tetris-like pieces. When you're first introduced to it, Pit makes a comment about how he's glad he played a lot of Dr. Mario.

Is there a new clip that shows how those things work?

I've played it at Nintendo's offices. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be clips out there of either part.

Sakurai just loves his Dr. Mario. Gotta love a guy who is so liberal with the cameos.

Kid Icarus is the kind of series that likes to pay homage to other Nintendo titles a lot, after all.

And indeed, this guy loves his puzzle games. (-l_____l-);
