Pic of the day. Here's a new stage, Wuhu Island. Flying around Wuhu Island may remind you of the Pilot Wings stage, but this time we tour famous locations on the island. For example, here’s the starting line of a power-cruising race. You may also find yourself at a mountain summit, in front of a fountain, on a suspension bridge, in a fighting arena, or riding on a boat. The stage really feels like a resort vacation.I’ve been so busy with developing this game that I dreamed about tropical islands every time I saw this stage. …Beaches in the summer are great, aren’t they?

Here's the list of music. If you're holding hope for certain stages to return, you can say goodbye now. Highlights: - Old stages still have old music for the most part, except for series with single stages (Luigi's Mansion, WarioWare, F-ZERO, MOTHER). - That said, those series aren't getting new stages. - Music distribution among Mario and Zelda stages are now more theme-appropriate, with the Zelda II temple getting boss music and so on. Yoshi's Woolly World gets music from Mario & Luigi 3 and 4, for some reason. - Apparently, Onett gets actual Onett music. Still no Port Town music for Port Town, though. - The Ice Climbers aren't coming back, so if you're still thinking they may be an exception or something... Guesses: - Do not expect new Mario, Zelda or Kirby stages. Those series already have music from games that may seem stage-worthy, like Mario 3D World or Kirby Wii. - No Game & Watch music. Hmmm....... Opinion: - Well, when it comes to Nintendo series, there are mainly three that I particularly care about. And to those series: yay, yay, boo. - Aww, so few new songs. Melee and Brawl tunes are everywhere. - Still nothing for Ribald Tales of the Faith War. Too bad. - The worst of them all is still Sonic, who gets zero new songs. On the Plus side, Escape from the City is available.

So, does that mean a good chunk of that enormous list of composers were just people who already worked on the music from Brawl? Was it really just a massive fudge job on Sakurai's part? Looks I'll be hearing nothing but DK Island Swing 'til the end of time. Oh well. 9_9

The new composer list really is new. It's possible that each only worked for only a few songs, though, especially for "guest" composers like Mrs Tsujiyoko or Mrs Shimomura, returning to make songs from their respective series.

You also have to take into account that there is still about one hundred unknown songs to discover.

While it wasn't mentioned in the Euro direct, I thought this was pretty cool. Indie trophy representation in Smash! Also there's apparently Wonderful 101 music on the Super Mario Galaxy stage. And first KI character conversations are up for Mega Man, Ludwig and Captain Falcon.

That indie trophy is the embodiment of everything I was afraid of when Snake was revealed in Brawl.

^ Agreed. It's like opening a can of worm if not handled properly... With more videos uploaded, we get to learn about more stuff. First off, here's what the character selection screen looks like. It's a bit different from what I've imagined, with a 12-13-13-11(12) configuration (I thought the lines may be fixed in Wii U). For some reason, it's relieving to see Ness and Captain Falcon ending up as neighbours - those two shared quite a bit of history in Smash. Also, 8-bit mentioned that he wondered if the 8-Player Smash stage selection is fixed or variable depending on the number of players. Turns out that there are two levels: 5-6 players can access more stages than 7-8. I haven't gotten to the actual stage list, though. According to a loading screen tip: The fire marshal says you can't play every stage in 8-Player Smash. However, there are more stages available for 5 to 6 players than for 7 to 8.

I've gotta say, I liked Commander Video getting a trophy. I remember how big the bit.trip games were on WiiWare- they were among the first notable WiiWare games. It seemed like the start of Nintendo's relationship with indie devs, the sort that gets spotlighted every few Nintendo Directs.
What I'm saying is, if I had to pick five third party non-playable characters to get trophies in Smash, the Commander would be one of them. Don't think Rayman would, though.

That indie trophy is the embodiment of everything I was afraid of when Snake was revealed in Brawl. I disagree. Smash is a representation of Nintendo's history, and that "history" has now entered modern times. Nintendo has grown over the last few years and I'm glad they're embracing it. Besides, Shulk is from a franchise that started out on the Playstation. Just throwing that out there...

Xenoblade is not a part of Xenosaga or Xenogears anymore than Mighty No. 9 is part of Mega Man.

IIRC, the creator said Xeno is essentially just a prefix he attaches to games he does with similar themes and settings. So, you could say Xenoblade, Xenogears and Xenosaga are a metaseries. But they aren't a series in the traditional sense.

That's complete nonsense and you know that. Xenoblade is not a part of Xenosaga or Xenogears anymore than Mighty No. 9 is part of Mega Man. Well...I DIDN'T know that. I haven't played any game in the series. The similarities were just too striking to be a coincidence. Although, isn't Zero supposed to be in Mighty Number 9? I don't know anything about that either, I just also figured it was another Mega Man reboot...just without Mega Man. IIRC, the creator said Xeno is essentially just a prefix he attaches to games he does with similar themes and settings. So, you could say Xenoblade, Xenogears and Xenosaga are a metaseries. But they aren't a series in the traditional sense. So, like Alundra and Alundra 2, or Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy XII? I mean, surely Xenoblade has references to the other games?

No, they're all very separate games. Xenogears in an IP owned by Square Enix, Xenosaga has always been owned by Namco, and Xenoblade is obviously owned by Nintendo. As far as copyright is concerned, all three are distinct properties.

I dunno, though, with indie trophies in that really does open up a can of worms I'd rather hope to avoid. I mean, sure, they celebrate Nintendo's history, but it starts getting into sketchy territory. I mean, if you really want to go as deep as possible, Nintendo's history features the entire EA Harry Potter series. We still seem to only be playing with video game franchises which have been on a Nintendo console, but it's not a far jump to go from "Video game franchise" to "Franchise which has video games." It's a good reason to raise your brow.
