Pic of the day. You can play co-op in all the games in Stadium mode!! In Home-run Contest, you can either work together or compete by taking turns launching Sandbag. The batting order gets determined randomly to make it fair for the poor person that has to go first. Target Blast and Home-run Contest are games that you play over and over again, but you might find unique ways to play when you only have one shot at victory.

Pic of the day. We've added Masterpieces in the Wii U version--this is where you can look back on what fighters did in the past!! You can actually play the games too. Some of the Masterpieces aren't unlocked at the beginning of the game. It's impressive that there are even games from the Game Boy. Some games have different starting points, while others come loaded with save data.

Pic of the day. You'll need to link the 3DS version to the Wii U version to get them to work together. Luckily, this is easy. On the 3DS version, you simply select the Wii U option, and select the 3DS option on the Wii U version. This is what the screen looks like on the 3DS version when you link it with the Wii U version. We included this hoping that it might work as a remedy when you don't have enough controllers.

As a side note. I have always wanted to see a Wrecking Crew stage for Smash Bros. and I am happy that Sakurai decided to finally include one for the Wii U version.
Yeah that's all.

Sooo, do we already know what stages are unlockable in the Wii U version?
EDIT: Ugh. I just saw the unlockable stages on GameXplain. 4 of them are recycled boring stages and the 2 new ones are just pixelated.
Sakurai definitely follows the philosophy of having all the good stuff shown first. If I were to follow his restaurant analogy, it's like giving the dessert and main course up front, then having a few appetizers after the meal. You've already had the good stuff, it's like you're eating barrel scraps. Is this a good thing? Eh...I personally reeeeally enjoy unlocking things. Trophies aren't enough to satisfy me.

Happy Super Smash Bros. day to all! Pic of the day. The day has finally arrived. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is now available in the Americas!! I hope you'll enjoy this game's many modes and play it as you see fit. Here's a look at the controls screen for the Wii U Pro Controller. We needed to match the default settings for all controllers for buttons such as L and R, but there must be players out there that want to use the ZL and ZR Buttons for shielding. You can set the controls closer to the GameCube controller if you set the B Button for standard attacks and Y for special moves. Set up your controls however you like in Controls.

Also 5/6 players have 17 or so playable stages, just 3 more than 7/8 players. Bit of a dissapointment, but I'll manage.
Now that the game is out in America tho, if any if you can confirm the following for me, that'd be wonderful: - Are custom stages playable in 8-player mode? - Can you save replays of 8-player matches? - Is the kill count (stars) still displayed on the character select screen (in 8-player mode)? This is kind of a big deal with the group I'm usually playing with.
Thanks!

Thanks Leon. That... kinda kills a lot of excitement I had for 8-player mode tho. I mean the small stage selection and no custom stages (despite super large formats) kind of sucks, but 17's still a decent number. But no kill counts? Racing to see who can get to 100 kills first was how my group played since Melee and I always found it annoying that rotation mode didn't keep track of the kills. I was hoping 8-player mode would hit two birds with one stone (no waiting, kill counts), but alas ..Being able to save replays is kinda cool tho.

You can count it manually (the result screen still says how many KOs did you land), but yeah, it's kind of annoying.
8-player Smash seems to be something they threw in somewhere during planning/prototyping (probably after they killed off the Ice Climbers), which explains why it looks so lacking. Still, the ability to count KOs is something that's already there, so this does look backwards.
Personally, I hope having 8 players will become a standard. We don't have enough large-scale multiplayer games that don't involve multiple screens. Now that Bomberman is long dead, I think Smash is the only noticeable example...

My problem is that it feels like a separate mode with all these missing details instead of an expansion like I expected... and since it actually is a different mode I guess the joke's on me.
So here's hoping this feature gets fleshed out in the next installment, 7-8 years from now! Just add a bunch of extra Greek letter'd stage modes, one that makes the stage layout like Battlefield and one that makes it compatible with 5-8 players, by increasing the stage size or removing stage details that could cause slowdowns and whatnot. Also keep the goddamn kill counts.

I think the reason why 8 player Smash doesn't have a kill counter is to keep clutter down. With the character slots so narrow, it would be difficult to even read the kill counts in the first place.

Pic of the day. The Orbital Gate, which was shown in yesterday’s post, looks like a space station, as you can see in this picture. There was also a pic of the day where the fighters are going through the center gate.…By the way, this model is actually a trophy. Diorama style. The Orbital Gate Assault stage actually took a whole year to complete.
