Anyone remember The Legend of Zelda: Tetra's Trackers? That was announced but cancelled for the US. Yes, now I know after Fryguy told me about it. It was released with the Japanese version of the Four Swords

It wasn't announced for the US... it was announced full stop... then it was released in Japan. Basically the whole concept would never have been able to work in English, so it should come as no surprise that it never came out in English.
Deja Vu... didn't we already mention Tetra's Trackers earlier in this post?

Deja Vu... didn't we already mention Tetra's Trackers earlier in this post? Surprisingly no...it was in another thread, though. I looked up Mini Racers (because I initially didn't see it in the post...), and found that the game was mentioned in only 5 Nintendo Power issues as coming out before it disappeared. So it might have been the game with the shortest time frame between being revealed and canceled on the N64...5 months isn't too long.

Quite a few games have been announced at a trade show, hardly noticed by the trade press, and have never been seen again. For instance Echo Delta on the N64. Announced then gone. Luna Blaze and Battland on GBA? Announced then gone.
I'd say they win.

What's Echo Delta About?

It was basically a birds-eye view title where you played as a ship looking for submarines or something. You could only see a small area around your ship courtesy of sonar (hence the Echo in the title). You went around like this blowing up subs.
I'm sure there was more to it that that. It sounded very much like a PC strategy game rather than an N64 title, but it obviously didn't attract much attention.
It was developed by a Marigul studio called "Clever Trick". We never heard from them again did we?

I don't think games that are nominally, but not de facto cancelled (because they are released later heavily modified) are true cancellations. Should we consider Nintendo's original concept for the first Mario platformer for the GameCube a cancelled game, when it ended up being Super Mario Sunshine?

Seeing as how Super Mario Sunshine was announced very soon after the Gamecube was announced, and how it was released fairly soon after, we can assume Super Mario Sunshine was in development for quite some time before the Gamecube was even shown.
I think it's sufficient, therefore, for Super Mario 64 II to be considered the cancelled in-betweeny game.

I thought Super Mario 64 2 was just the original name for Super Mario 128 which, I hear, has been in developement since shortly after Super Mario 64 was finished and will finaly be shown off at this E3. Mario Sunshine was just slapped together to fill in the large gap of time between the 2.

SM64II was announced for N64.
128 will be the true sequel to SM64.

SM64II was announced for N64. 128 will be the true sequel to SM64. Well, it certainly wouldn't have been the only game to get pushed from N64 to GCN.

About Tetra's Trackers...it was integrated into Zelda: Four Swords GCN, then changed to Navitrackers while the whole thing became Four Swords Plus. In the Western world, it became Four Swords Adventures and dropped Navitrackers.

I don't know what was going on with the whole Navi's Trackers thing, as it would have had to be completely remade from the bottom up to work... characters, voice interaction, etc. I suspect the whole Navi's Trackers idea was never actually in development, but a working title for the possible American version that was never going to happen.
I safely assume Super Mario 64 II was dropped when development started in Super Mario Sunshine (which, going by interviews, has little in common with what little we know about 64 II). I am still suspicious of SM128 as well. I'd love to see a new Mario platform game this E3, but if we do I expect it'll be for the Revolution, and not for the Gamecube... and probably won't resemble what we expect SM128 will resemble.

Well if it is made for the Revolution, it won't be called 128, it'll probably be called 256 hence the graphical capabilities.
