There will be at some point in the future if they keep putting out new generations. I'd like to see it happen, quite frankly.

Since yesterday, there are now 493 Pokémon revealed by official means! Arceus, the Alpha Pokémon, will star the 12th movie as expected. Not only that; via Serebii.net we can also see another Coro Coro picture about this movie that screams Gold and Silver! First Pichu, and now Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile. Why them...?

If (when?) they do do a GSC remake they need to make Kanto actually good. Yes yes, everybody loves that you can go back there, but pretty much all the good parts of it are gone. This time, no shitty "oh the safari zones been shut down" "oh yeah viridian forest got cut down" "oh yeah that cave where you find arcticuno caved in" blah blah blah crap. Yes, advance the region so it feels like 3 years or whatever it is has passed, but don't do it like that.

I remember reading somewhere that the data for where a Pokémon was caught in Diamond and Pearl contained a flag for Johto (which the 3rd generation games didn't), so maybe a GS remake is coming. I'd like to see it happen, I never did play Gold as much as I'd have liked to.

Probably the Bulbapedia article for it. That poster with the three Johto starters is now a headline picture in the same article. So far, the locations I know the Pokémon can show in their info are "some specific Sinnoh location", Hoenn, Kanto, Distant land (for Orre for example), Lovely place (Pokétopia or Ranch) and Pokémon Event. Not sure about the Pokémon you can get from Channel, Box or the Colosseum Jirachi.

I believe they put it, met at a "fateful encounter" or something.

That field corresponds to how you obtained that Pokémon rather than its origin. For example, check out Parrot's picture: it says "Pokémon Event" as the location, and "fateful encounter" as the method of obtaining it.

With the GBA remake of the originals already out for you to get your RBY critters they'll probably stick with post apocalyptic Kanto. By the way if they announce a GSC remake it'd be the first Pokemon game I'm actually looking forward to. GSC supremacy

GSC supremacy The DSi's lack of a GBA slot is something to consider, though - GSC remakes may be their way of making Johto / Kanto (and maybe even a few Hoenn - I mean why not) avaialble for DSi owners. In which case they'll need (hopefully) to bring back those areas. Hopefully.

Now that you mention that, let's remember that FR/LG and Emerald had bonus Pokémon at the end of the game that are legendary or starters of a foreign region. Even Platinum will allow you to catch the legendary birds in Sinnoh. If you have access to another region in these remakes we're wishing for, that could happen again, maybe with Bulbasaur and friends. UPDATE: According to Serebii.net, the Japanese site for the movie is labeling Pichu, Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile as "new" for some reason. In the site, you can see a clearer artwork and, finally, the Sugimori art for Pokémon #493, Arceus.

Both links work for me.
I was thinking those Johto Pokeymans were Ash's - but his Chikorita evolved didn't it?
