It is backwards compatible... that's why I SAID it was backwards compatible. Read my post again.
And I was talking exclusively about the UK market, I suppose. Pokemon Stadium 2 and Paper Mario were shipped with high expectations at the wrong time, and as such sold very poorly. That made UK PAL versions surprisingly rare... just before Paper Mario 2 and Pokemon Colosseum were released, unboxed N64 Paper Marios and Pokemon Stadium 2s were selling for near £80!! That's twice the price of a brand new game. It's calmed back down again now, with the games selling for between £30 and £40... still high... but oh well.

Paper Mario 2 was so cool, but it was overshadowed by Halo 2...

What did they European DS launch have that made it so special? We got SM64, WWT and a bunch of 3rd-party titles? Not the strongest launch ever, thats for sure. And considerring there have been, what, 2 games (slight understatement, perhaps) since then, it hasn't exactly been a stellar period.

Yeah, right now there's not much out that appeals to me - so I'm waiting until the end of July for my DS, but will it be long enough for there to be new games out that I want? You don't have to answer that question - it is just a question. E3 come and show us NEW DS games that will come out SOON! Thanks (like E3 is some sort of tangible object that just so happens to understand English and respond to requests).

A voice is heard eminating from the clouds overhead:
YES! IT IS ME! E3! ALL BOW DOWN TO ME NOW OR PERISH AT THE HANDS OF MY LONG QUEUEING TIMES!!
I haven't really given much thought to what I'd like to see from the show. Just good stuff basically, you know, good...stuff? I know that if was going there, I'd wait for everyone to stampede over to the "announcements place" to hear about boring stuff like new games and Revolution then I'd glue myself to the Zelda booth. I'm sure I would find out about that other stuff sooner or later.

Europe had 15 DS games at launch, four of which were Nintendo published (Super Mario 64 DS, Wario Ware Touched, Pokemon Dash and Polarium). Japan got all that plus Band Brothers (which I assume is being adapted, Donkey Konga style, for individual markets). America had Super Mario 64 DS... don't know how many 3rd party games it had at launch, but it wasn't many. WarioWare Touched wasn't released at the US launch... in fact it came out only about a week before the European release. So America had a weak release, while everywhere else had very strong releases. Odd that. Maybe Nintendo Europe is trying to show Nintendo of America up

Europe had 15 DS games at launch, four of which were Nintendo published (Super Mario 64 DS, Wario Ware Touched, Pokemon Dash and Polarium). Polarium wasn't made by Nintendo, Pokemon Dash is supposed to be crap, SM64 is a port (a port of a fantastic game with some awesome minigames, but a port none the less). Weak, IMO. (on this topic, does anybody know where I could find a least of Nintendo's launch lineups for each console / handheld (In as many regions as possible)? Would be an interesting read. And if theres one on the main site forgive me for being an idiot.)

Polarium was designed by Mitchell, but Nintendo aided in development. Around half of the people credited on the game are Nintendo staff members.
Pokemon Dash isn't the best game by far, but it's not all that bad. Quite tricky, and it's been a massive seller on the strength of the Pokemon name and the promise of linking up to all of the GBA games for extra tracks.
Not a weak launch lineup at all. WarioWare, Super Mario 64 DS and Polarium are all very good games. Pokemon Dash is actually not too bad if you get used to the bizarre game mechanic. Three strong franchises and one new... seeing as Nintendo usually launches with 2 games it's a very good lineup. Better than most other companies systems start with too.
If you just want to find out Nintendo's own games available at launch, just check out NinDB's game lists. They're chronologically listed, so the first titles will appear at the top with the same release date.

Most "Nintendo games" aren't. Yeah. I know. That came out wrong. Sort of. Wasn't it released by a different company in Japan? Anyhoo, fine. I concur. But you have to admit that for a console that has been out for almost half a year the lineup is very, very weak. Especially when the next major release is in June/July. (talking about the US, BTW)

Yes, the US launch is extremely weak... I was simply comparing it to the superior Japanese and European launches. I don't know why... but on day 1 of the DS's release over here we already had more DS games than America had seen in months. I really don't know what NoA's game plan is.
And no, Polarium (known as Chokkan Hitofude in Japan) was released by Nintendo worldwide. You're thinking of Meteos, released by Bandai in Japan, and Nintendo in the US.
