Nintendo All-Stars: The New Batch

Right... I will soon be redeveloping the Nintendo Stars section into something that vaguely resembles a decent directory. I will be revising the whole thing, and changing the submission rules. I also plan to integrate it into the rest of the website a little more.

Here are the changes I intend to put in place:

1. It will be renamed the Nintendo All-Stars section.

2. I will create a directory of names and fill it up over the course of time. These will most likely be divided by series. Alternatively, the Nintendo All-Stars section will be alphabetical, while the Nintendo Series section will have relevant links to characters from each series.

3. I will start with a small amount of information and an illustration of each character.
3a. I will now be solely responsible for the illustrations. I will likely revise many of the existing illustrations.
3b. The information will at first consist of a small profile and a 100 word (or thereabouts) description. The profile will have some basic stats, including first appearance and series links. The description will be general and ideally not storyline specific (though allowances will be made for characters that feature in only one or two games). Think SSBM trophies.

4. The pages will be lengthened with storyline, trivia and game appearances where relevant.

5. At first, I will accept characters that fall into one of the following categories:
"Hero" (playable character; eg. Mario, Link)
"Villain" (final boss; eg. Bowser, Ganon)
"Damsel" (the person being rescued; eg. Peach, Zelda)
I will also accept certain miscellaneous characters on a case by case basis. Possible entries may include the Duck Hunt hunting dog, Tingle, Fawful...

If you want to contribute, I will accept your character profiles if they are well written. I reserve the right to make any edits that I see fit. You will be credited for your work.

I've finally sat down and started colouring one of my drawings for the Nintendo All-Stars section:



Still got to work out the shadows, etc. and do a nice background, but it's a start!

Ohh, very nice. I love the pose and expression. And the lineart is excellent. ;D

I think it's better that you're doing all the art for the section yourself now. It'll keep the style nice and consistant throughout.

It's so much fun to do the poorly-defined characters of old. I mean... this was my reference material:



And then some shots of old WW2 fighter pilots... seeing as that was the uniform (and tricky hat) that he seems to be wearing.

It's always fun redesigning old characters... ;D

I can actually see him looking somewhat similar to your drawing if he was ever to appear in Super Smash Bros, or anything. Like Pit's redesign, your picture makes him look more like a real person/anime character rather than the Popeye-styled art of the original. That seems to be the direction Nintendo tend to take their less-defined old characters in.

Damn. If the Nintendo RPG ever becomes a reality, your art style should be used for it. It's like what they did with Namco x Capcom.

Not quite... I've still got a ways to go before I get anywhere near THAT good.

But I was inspired by Namco X Capcom to maybe spruce up some of the older characters... and to improve on my ability to draw interesting poses.

I have quite good conceptual sketches of Balloon Fighter lying around somewhere. I felt as a character he was too generic, so I tore his design apart and gave him some interesting bits. When I get a good sketch done I'll scan it in and show y'all.

Stanley! DK3 was my second-favourite of the old DK games. ;D

...what was your first? And by elimination your third?

DKJ is by far my favourite, DK second, and DK3 comes in last. But I still love that little guy and his complete non-relation to Mario.

Man, I love how you used the reddish brown color for his uniform. So what program did you use to color your stuff?

I used Adobe Illustrator to ink them both (using different methods) and to colour Sky Skipper - I used Photoshop to colour Stanley.

I was trying different methods. I definitely prefer the way Sky Skipper came out.

FryGuy64, while you are painting, you might need to update this artwork of Muddy that you made, because he lacks his toe nails, he lacks his belly button, and his scarf isn't red, just like the official artwork of him:
