Well, there's an Animal Crossing symbol(which is 15 BTW), but with Nook and KK Slider appearing on the stage, who does that leave to be playable? Resetti? The star of the anime? (Anyone know her name?)

I wonder if KK will play Totaka's song...

I'm thinking the requirement for a franchise to earn its own symbol is that it, at the very least, has to have its own stage. So if a franchise has a stage, it doesn't necessarily need a character to have a symbol. As for Resetti, if he doesn't appear on this stage, Assist Trophy. Almost definitely.

Anyways, this is an awesome update, and it actually confirms a couple other things:

- No playable Tom Nook (sorry fans), or any Animal Crossing character, really
- Battlefield turns from day to night as time passes in-game, otherwise the Wii's internal clock would have been mentioned specifically like it is here.

The current theory that the first 11 are the franchises represented in Smash 64, 12-14 are the added Melee franchises, and 15 forward are new ones, is looking to be 100% true so far. At this pace, Earthbound will be #7, and unless we get a brand new franchise symbol in slot 12/13/14 along the road, it's almost a sure thing that Ice Climbers and Game and Watch aren't cut.

This is a very cool idea (love the K.K.Slider appearance - I wonder if he'll be playing..... K.K. Song...)

I also noticed the Animal Crossing icon, but I'm hard-pressed to think of anyone who might appear. Maybe all characters and stages have their icons. Who can say?

Its a cool looking course. It was also a good idea to use the internal clock function (plus KK as well) for this course.

If people want SSBB to have online gameplay, this stage's internal clock feature might mess it up, because of the time being different in many places around the Earth.

What? That's not a problem at all! Just like in Animal Crossing: Wild World, when players meet up on the stage online, everyone conforms to the host's time zone. That's always how it's worked in the AC games.

Tom Nook, get the f*** out of the background and get into the fight. Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease.

Come on, they've got to have an AC character if there is a stage (not really, but whatever), and KK Slider is already the centrepiece at one time (very cool feature, by the way), so yeah, give us (me) Tom Nook.

When I woke up in the middle of the night to check Friday's update, I was rocked to the core! I was going "Yes! Yes! Yes!!!!" and assumed that Tom Nook would be a newcomer.

Upon closer inspection of the screenshots, I noticed that Tom Nook, along with other Smashville residents, are just standing in the background. I also noticed that in one of the screenshots a MALE HUMAN CHARACTER and Samus seem to be ganging up on Pit!!

I was alarmed with the very idea of playing as a male human character and not Tom Nook. But closer inspection reveals that the male human character is really sitting at the cafe getting coffee from a chicken.

So now I'm back in square one. Who is the playable Animal Crossing character? Will there be a playable Animal Crossing character? I am with the guy above me, Tom Nook, get off the background and get into the fight. Prove everyone you CAN fight.

Oh, this stage is really perfect. It is beautiful than I imagined it would be. I can't wait to play on this stage. It is one of the best updates I've seen so far.

Who else could possibly be an Animal Crossing fighter? I mean, it looks like Tom Nook is out. And K.K. Slider is obviously out. Who else is there? Resetti? Blatters? Who? I still want my Tom Nook, though.

Maybe Tom Nook is a playable character, and he simply won't appear in the stage background when he's selected?

I don't know who the playable character, if any, would be, but I love that they have an Animal Crossing stage. This is excellent. I wonder what song K.K. Slider would play. K.K. Song, perhaps?

I was wondering if anyone can verify this strange fact about Tom Nook, on the internet people say in Animal Crossing: Wild World (I'm assume its not the GC version because I have it) does Tom Nook mention that before he owned a store that he used to own a fighting/boxing club and even get into the ring to fight as well and even mentions he never lost a fight when he was there? Because of this strange fact, lots of people say he should be in SSBB.

Somebody on Gamefaqs swears that Tom Nook isn't in the bg; it's his store assistant in Wild World. Can anybody confirm or refute this?

On another note, this is the single best update they've had. I literally laughed so hard with joy I started coughing. Sakurai--you are the man

This is a cool and unexpected update. I'm wondering how the background is going to scroll, and whether ALL of the characters will appear somehow! It certainly seems to suggest they might.

I was wondering if that was really Nook in the crowd as well. Doesn't look QUITE right.

And I love the fact he invented a name. You can tell he loves AC can't you
