Good point Tei. The whole reason Geno is popular (at least how I see it) is that Geno was a "cool" character in an "awesome" game. As good as the Paper Mario games are, they don't live up to how much Super Mario RPG is loved. Which is probably the major reason for his popularity. If everyone loved Mario&Luigi: Superstar Saga as much as they love Super Mario RPG, we'd see people think Fawful is more likely then Geno, now being obscured.
Of course, I say either Bowser Jr.(importaints and presence) or Geno(fan love) will get in.

Fawful needs more love. He'd be a kickass player character and you all know it.
He'd have so much fury. Oh well--maybe he'll be in as a boss or a trophy!

Yeah, Fawful has kinda died down on the radar, hasn't he? Oh well. He's going the way of the Syrups and Tatangas of the Marioverse :/
Geno gets in because he's frigging Geno. What else needs to be said?

Bowser Jr. could be a character with 4 special moves of his own, but since there's already Sunshine-themed stuff in Brawl, his appearance as a playable character could mean Shadow Mario's, too.

Geno was a major character in a major Mario game and a cameo character in another major Mario game. II haven't play SMRPG, but is he really a 'major' character in the game? Isn't he one of 5 party members? And don't you only go around with 3? So isn't it therefore possible (and probably quite likely for Mario fanboys back then who wanted to play as Peach and Bowser in a proper Mario game too), that he would be entirely ignored? Really the only reason people look at SMRPG so fondly is, as someone said, its Nintendo meets Square-Enix. Also its old, and old stuff is ALWAYS better than new stuff. Even if it clearly isn't.

You would have to use Geno at least until you got Bowser, which I think happened about... halfway into the game? But Mallow > Geno, anyway.
I never understood SMRPG's popularity. It's okay, but it's not a patch on any of the Mario RPGs that have followed it. It's basically what you'd get if you took the original Paper Mario and removed 90% of the fun. The only good thing it brought to the table was timed hits, but even then all they really do is give a slight increase or decrease in damage. Paper Mario is where it's at.

The reason people want Geno playable is because he's the mysterious doll in a robe and that's SO COOL. Also he can shoot lasers and stuff.
Kinda the same reason people want Marx from Kirby in: goofy mysterious evil guy that can shoot lasers and stuff.

I'm with Kirbychu on this one. Mallow is a much more developed character - a cloud who thinks he's a frog, who can make it rain when he cries, and who attacks with a pair of cymbals?
Geno was just a "serious" spirit in a doll's body. He was powerful enough... but Mallow is where it's at ;D
A cloud wearing trousers is awesome.

Not only that, but Mallow had a much more involved part in the story. The story pretty much revolves around him from the point where you meet him thoughtout most of the Pond to Pipes section of the game. Then the story comes back to him again for the entire stay in Nimbus Land.
Maybe I'm forgetting something, but the only part of the game that I remember focusing around Geno is the end of the events in Rose Town. And maybe Star Hill? I'm not so sure about that one, it was rather forgettable.
So if any SMRPG characters appear in Brawl at all, I hope that Mallow isn't forgotten. I loved that little guy.

Mallow as playable character instead of Geno would cause a tsunami of hilarious nerdrage so I'm all for that.

That's just what I was trying to say. Mallow was a more important character than Geno. So, why does Geno get more love? Maybe he is very Final-Fantasy-y. I don't know.

Geno its the closest we have in the Mario Universe to a Bad ass (He talks little, crosses his arms in his victory pose, has a mysterious past, and hardly does nothing comical in the game) and you know how people love bad asses (Shadow, Bass, Zero, Vegeta) but still, Geno has very little importance in the big skim of Mario games, If he didn't appeared in the Square developed Mario Hops, I doubt he will be in the game as anything more than a Assist trophy.

I haven't finished the game yet, so I can't be too sure... but so far Super Paper Mario's Dimentio seems far more "badass" (lol his butt is nasty) than Geno.

Geno just has the B.A. appeal, like everybody's saying. It's not that big a deal, but a lot of folks really like him. That's enough for me.
