I've said it a bunch of times before, and I will continue to say it until I'm proven wrong (in which case I will proudly wear the dunce hat) or he is (which he will be), that the main piece of evidence against 34 characters, ignoring all his other speculation, is that it requires character updates to go from 16 in 14 weeks to 5/6 in the next 12 or so (is the Nov 22 date for Japan confirmed? Or is it really 14 or 15 weeks?).

Does nobody else see this is a problem? These updates are carefully planned, so I really don't think Sakurai is going to make them too top heavy, with no characters left for the last few, nor do I think character updates will be missing from more than 1 out of every 3 or 4 weeks.

Thats all my speculation consists of. Its not based on any real evidence, but it uses an official site to form ideas rather than some dude from gameFAQs. So its therefore better.

Okay, to go through the facts (damn, this guy's gettin' some publicity!)

There are 34 playable characters (excluding transformations).

There are 17 now (counting Solid Snake and Meta Knight) with 7 newcomers. And 8 more veterans on the bottom of my post. (26 chars which means 8 more newcomers and that = 15 newcomers and 34 chars.)

Balloon Fighter
Baby Bowser
Golden Sun Character
Lucas
Sonic
Megaman/ Bomberman (Sakurai said only two more 3rd parties, and one of these guys has to be in.)

Six characters have been removed from the last game.

Ice Climbers/ G & W
Y. Link
Pichu
Roy

One of the "Original 12" has been removed.

Ness

There are 15 newcomers (excluding transformations).

This means 19 veterans. There are 11 now. Luigi (12), Capt. Falcon (13), Ganondorf (14), Falco (15), Ice Climbers/ G & W (16), Jigglypuff (17), Mewtwo (18), and Marth/Roy (19) will be the veterans.

All but one of the represented franchises from Super Smash Bros. Melee will be returning.

Either Ice Climbers or G & W will go.



Most of my points have been reviewed before, except for the staying characters. Also, Falco might stay.

(This feels like a puzzle. It's fun!)

Before I read the rest of this thread, lemme just respond here while it's fresh in my mind.

Are we GUARANTEED that Sakurai will update every single day until the release? Are we CERTAIN he will not just up and disappear again in, say, October because "he needs to put the finishing touches in?"

It was never confirmed the website was going to have that many updates anyways. Frankly, I feel like we've had more than enough. And it's likely to end some time before the Japanese release. Regardless of announcing characters, how much content can this game seriously have that you can do that many daily updates and STILL be left with unlockables?

This grid madness is a bit nutty though. i just don't why some of you are putting in the time into trying to figure it out...seems rather random to me, these updates. But then again, some may look at my Nintendo Vs. Capcom fan design and say the same thing, so hey, whatever floats your boat. ^_^

There is only 34 characters because Sonic must be Secret Secret. I heard somebody say that you might have to go on the Wii Shop Channel to unlock him. I don't know.

His rumor sounds kind of similar to that radio rumor. You know, the one where they said that Ridley, Bowser Jr., and Young Link (Wind Waker-style) are added, and the Ice Climbers and Mr. Game & Watch are removed?

Well, after this post of mine, we have 107 days till the release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. We also have 76 more updates left before the release.

two things. First, don't expect WW Link. That obne of those nbogus ideas someone segested and Sakurai made a joke out of it. If you didn't know, Superman was on the poll too. He responded to joke about it, just like WW Link. The other is this is not a lucky guess. There has only been one other week with two characters, and to without any. The oddds to have guessed the exact week were high, making a lucky guess out of the question.

Well, no one expected young Link to be in Melee either. Cel Shaded Link was a highly asked about character. Sakurai may of joked about it, but there is still a chance he could be in...maybe. Who knows, we'll wait and see.

And about the guess, we all know that it is a very lucky guess, but it has potential. There have been many guesses and not one has gone into as much detail as this guy.

Actually, I think he only appered once. Also, in my Smashboards poll, only a few people actually segested the WW Link (like 4 at most).
