Oh ROB, you are finally getting the spotlight you've always wanted. First Mario Kart DS and now this?
I wonder what the storyline will be like for characters like Bowser and Ganondorf, will they fight with Mario, Peach, Link, and Zelda?

Awesome video.
I thought at first K. Rool may be involved, but it look like Petey some how fired it.
Also. I think some of you have the order wrong. Mario's seems to be the first level, where he fights all the Primids. I thionk that every character as their own story. Although, the video aludes to one big storyline.
I would like to have an update tell us how you play this mode.

I really, really hope each character has their own storyline with FMVs included. That would be so incredibly awesome. I don't want each character to have an identical play-through--that's one of the downsides to SSBM's Adventure. I also don't want there to be Sonic Adventure 2-styled "forced to switch characters in order to advance the storyline" sort of stuff, either. However, the fact that it's really just one big storyline that we only see parts of through different characters--THAT is kinky. Each character should have one unique story point to them so you don't get the entire puzzle until you've played Subspace Emissary with every character in the game. I imagine that, in this aspect, playing as villainous characters like Bowser or Ganondorf, or renegade characters like Meta Knight, we'd see a lot more of the other side than with heroic characters like Mario or Kirby. And that will be SO COOL. Do you figure Subspace Emissary will have, like, voice acting and stuff? I mean, traditionally, a lot of Nintendo characters are mute-ish aside from grunts or screams (Mario, Samus, Pokémon Trainer...), but for those that can talk, like Bowser, Wario or Captain Falcon, will they actually say stuff? I think that would be the best thing in the world. Whoa! Looks like Rob's idea for various Nintendo villains becoming non-playable bosses will come true after all. And Petey looks amazing, I can't wait. One other thing this more or less confirms: this FMV is Kirby's opening for Subspace Emissary instead of Mario's. Good to see Sakurai being at least a little selfish with the spotlight every now and then! Dude, that idea was mine. D: I came up with it first aaaages ago. Anyway--awesome! Petey Piranha working for a strange evil force isn't new (he did it in M&L: PiT), but because it's in Smash Bros, that makes it full of win and cheese. Oh my oh my I just wet my pants a little. EDIT: No, not just a little. What an awesome update. "Tex popped out of my head and beat up Tucker (which was awesome) and took his sword! Also, somebody may have been surprised by this, and peed their pants a little bit. Or a lot."Also, about the whole Kingdom Hearts thing...this basically takes a good concept and blows it out of the water. The plot lacks Square's typical convoluted metaphorical crap and we don't have to deal with emo Final Fantasy heroes/villains at the same time. Instead we get something straightforward and with characters that you can actually care about (although it's REALLY hard to top having Tron in your party).

I think one way to do it would be to have a stage designed around each character/franchise. Adventure mode would mean going through all these stages, but the order would be different and not all of them would be included. They might be broken up with a few character/franchise specific clips.
The last level before the Subspace Emissary would be the level for -that- character-. For instance, if you're playing as Link, the second to last level would be in on the Bridge of Eldin fighting the boss, Pig Ganon. After that, you fight the Subspace Emissary.
And so not everything isn't fighting bosses... they should give some sort of alternate look to playable characters that are 'brainwashed into fighting'.

The story is so Kingdom Hearts that it's just stupid. It's like Kingdom Hearts, but with decent characters instead of the one-dimensional FF puke running all over the place. Which makes it better by around a million pounds. Because quality is measured in weight. Well, Ancient Minister is 1,000´000 times better than the Hearthless leaders in KH (And I keep all my fingers crossed so SSBB doesn't have original Emo antagonists like KH, but knowing Sakurai previous series (Kirby, Smash and Meteos) I highly doubt that will happen) ¡Petey Piranha and ROB!Now this game only needs Tingle and Flint to be perfect This is the first time I have seen people hate on KH because of th FF part of the game. Normally people hate the Disney aspect.

What can we say? Disney > FF by long shot in all of our opinions. That, and the people you're referrng to are most likely Squeenix fanpeoples who eat, breathe and shit the metaphors and emo characters that Squeenix throws at us. Go figure.
Anyway, I'm late to the party, but I gotta go see what the guys at DK Vine think of Petey's appearence... ;D

Am I the only one here who realizes Petey fucking sucks?
He became a Mario char without reason, and never was interesting. He takes place of better character choices.

Am I the only one here who realizes Petey wizzleing sucks? He became a Mario char without reason, and never was interesting. He takes place of better character choices. Petey had a reason to became a mario character, He is a Heavyweight and a Power character, something that the Mario Spinofs lacked (they had ot use King Boo in Double Dash, and ROB in MKDS, who even if awesome is not a Mario Char), simply there is no other character who fits the bill that its not incredibly obscure, (like Wart or Smithy) Then After all those spinoffs he apeared for the reason stated above, He just became so well known in the Mario Franchise, than he just had to apear in every game. (besides he has the same color scheme as Tingle, green with red underware)

The update rocks hard I had to go out and reserve a copy of the game after work today.
I just couldn't resist Petey Piranha!
EDIT: what is FMV? And I hope it has subtitles in addition to voice-acting for the hearing impaired SSB fans like myself.

Am I the only one here who realizes Petey wizzleing sucks? He became a Mario char without reason, and never was interesting. He takes place of better character choices. Petey became a Mario character for a very good reason: he first appeared in Super Mario Sunshine, which--you may not know--is a Mario game! I think, so far as "Large and Unplayable Bosses" go, Petey is the most obvious option to represent Mario, now that Giga Bowser is a transformation move Bowser can use directly. He may be new, but he's the only sub-boss character to have as much presence in the Mario universe. Think about it: even if you rule out the sports spin-offs, Petey has been in Mario Sunshine, Super Princess Peach, New Super Mario Bros. and M&L: PiT. Mario Galaxy is going to have that "Peteysaurus" thing, too, showing that Nintendo's still going to include homages to him. Then factor in the sports games: Mario Power Tennis, MK:DD!!, Mario Strikers Charged...I wouldn't be surprised if he's appeared in a few Mario Party titles, either. Love him or hate him, he's got presence; he's second only to Bowser Jr who, for all we know, might be a boss as well.

For the first time in his career Peaty really looks frightening. Peaty is a great character simply because of his lack of character. He needs no motives to do anything, completely psychopathic. Love him or hate him, he's got presence; he's second only to Bowser Jr who, for all we know, might be a boss as well. Bowser Jr. is nothing compared to this freak plant ;D.

This update is incredible. The movie clip showed off an awesome use for ROB (always great to see such wonderful homages!), and Petey has never looked so intense...or badass, either. I love it. And phooey on the Kingdom Hearts comparison. Why? Because Smash Bros. games have ALWAYS been a mix of different games (if I recall, even BEFORE KH...but I could be wrong). This is just taking that one step further, and I am extremely excited. Outside of the crossover aspects (and this is much better than porking up the Disney legends with the emotionally challenged Final Fantasy characters from VII on up), and the Heartless/Supspace enemy comparison (which could go for many, MANY games...I could go off on a tangent and compare the ghosts of Pac Man to the Ganado of RE4 because they both chase your character around, for example), I fail to see any real similarity. It stands for Full Motion Video.

What can we say? Disney > FF by long shot in all of our opinions. Speak for yourself. I hate Disney. Think their lame. Although UI will agree that FF's story is Bizzar and their characters are ovger rated. Although 12 isn't emo at all and Balthier PWNS your face. I don't mind Petey at all. He is a Mario character, and is usually a boss. So, tu-da, you've got a boss for Brawl. It would be nice to see how boss fights work. I sespect you'll have to knock out all their HP. Maybe that crazy guy has 999
