So the DK Vine was very, very excited about today's addition to the roster, but according to their latest news post he still doesn't make up for the "horrid Jungle Beat references". Oy vey.

Haha, not bad. Part of me has wanted him in there before, in fact.
Now give me my King Dedede, Sakurai, and I will be happy forever.
But then again, he's put on rather high regard. He was wanted for Melee before in the polls, wasn't he?
With all these newcomers coming just like this, we'd probably be seeing him soon as well.

Diddy Kong was one of those characters I kind of imagined being on the fence. Maybe he'd get in, maybe he wouldn't. I'm a bit excited, but he had better have the ability to cartwheel. How much you want to bet that his Final Smash has something to do with his Donkey Kong 64 electric guitar?

Expecting a course opr maybe an item, and I get this. One of the characters I've been wanting for the longest time now. Diddy. Finnaly! This is going to be a good day!
Also,m the rumor is dead now. Shame, as I was kind of hoping it was true. I could have goon for 36 characters. Oh well. I've got Diddy and I'[m happy.
But, I wouldn't say Ness is coming back. Even Starman.net says Lucas is in. I would fancy a gyuess he is the next newcomer.

Holy Arceus! I wonder who in the world won't be happy for this  Diddy Kong was one of those characters I kind of imagined being on the fence. Maybe he'd get in, maybe he wouldn't. I'm a bit excited, but he had better have the ability to cartwheel. I also hope he's given the Cartwheel in any of his regular or special moves. But I'd also like to see DK's Roll or that midair jump of his from DK64. |

¡Diddy Deserved it! He appeared in almost every Mario Spin off game during the GC era and three DK games (Konga 1 and 2 and King of Swing) This makes me happy in both ways, as it brings me Hope again that both Earthbound and F-Zero would get more than one playable character (Please let Flint be in  ) but also makes Dedede highly possible as he was also high on the polls. Still, the roster still needs some Wars representation as well as Pikmin (Even If I think that Pikmin would be easier to do as Assist trophies/items) Still hope that Brawl will have some new franchises with playable characters, and since Brain Age, Nintendogs and Mii´s work better as Assist trophies and some other stuff, Famicon Wars and Pikmin are the next in the line And Don't worry about the rumor, I will give you a new one... 1.The Next veteran to be revealed is going to Be Cp. Falcon
2.There is not going to be another character this week
3.Both Luigi and Ganondorf will be secret, so they wont be revealed in the dojo
4.We are going to have more playable Pokémon
5.Expect to see another character dressed in green from the Zelda series(playable) |

I squealed with delight. I used to hate the DKC games and anything from them, but since Diddy started appearing in the Mario titles I can't get enough of the little bastard. Diddy Kong Racing made my life back in those awful junior high years too. What a great mid-week surprise!  With Newcomers appearing once a week now it seems, how the hell many can there be afterall?! *crosses fingers for Dedede or Takamaru to be next. No, screw that... Mike Jones* |

Yeah, but notice how only 2 HAL characters got it into SSB and Melee. And those secondary stuff are not worth mentioning - he does not completely omit it, he just give the best for the 1st party stuff, I'd say. And he actually made the game in favour to HAL than ther 2nd parties, thus the Pokemon.
And Marth and Roy are there for advertising purposes.

Look at the original roster:
Mario, Yoshi, Luigi, Donkey Kong, Link, Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Kirby, Samus Aran, Fox McCloud, Captain Falcon, Ness
2 out of 12 for a second party isn't bad. Look over that list again and you'll see HAL actually got more notice than Nintendo R&D1, who only have Samus to their name.
4/12 of those characters are second party creations, and that's not including Donkey Kong who is clearly based on his Rare appearance. It's also not including Fox, as he was added to a second party game by Nintendo.
Now for Melee...
Mario, Yoshi, Peach, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Luigi, Dr. Mario, Link, Zelda, Ganondorf, Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Pichu, Mewtwo, Kirby, Samus Aran, Fox McCloud, Falco Lombardi, Captain Falcon, Ness, Ice Climbers, Mr. Game & Watch, Marth, Roy
8/25 second party characters for Melee, which includes the two new Pokemon plus Fire Emblem characters. It's extremely cynical to say Marth and Roy were included for advertising... Roy was definitely, but Marth? Advertising what? An 11 year old game?
You can't sit there and say he hates second parties. He gives them quite a decent chunk of representation.
And Brawl? Four of the newcomers are second party, and one of them is third party - and that's only what's been announced so far. What second parties do you perceive him ignoring?
And hey, R&D1 is also finally represented better with Pit and Wario in there ;D

Diddy Kong pleases me. I have to start school again tomorrow and this update really lifts my spirits! It also looks like they are trying to add more than one character for each respectable series. Meta-Knight, Diddy Kong, Zero Suit Samus (does she really count as another character though?)

Okay, not a bad update...but it didn't wow me like Ike or the Pokémon Trainer did. Diddy has always been "meh" to me (even in Diddy Kong Racing, I always use Timber or T.T.) so I'm not that excited about it. The only thing this makes me think is that Falco had better be in at this point--if Diddy gets the spot and Falco gets the boot I'll be wicked pissed. XD

I'm not as excited for Diddy as some of you guys are, but I think it's great to see another DK character be represented after all this time. And he looks like he'll be fun to play, so that's good news to me. Heh, and I won't mention how gleeful I am that the GameFAQs guru was proven completely, utterly and fantastically wrong and now looks like a wizzle. Oh wait...I did.  |

Something worth mentioning now is that almost all of Melee's starting roster has been revealed at this point; only Captain Falcon, Ness and Ice Climbers have not been, and even then Captain Falcon's inclusion is a no-brainer. Take that how you will, but to me it just means that we probably won't see any more veteran fighters on the Dojo before the game's release once Falcon gets uploaded.
