Update #75: Diddy Kong

Nah. Falcon and Ness are gonna get replaced by Rick Wheeler and Lucas. It's the only explanation for their extreme lateness.

And I want to see some secret characters becoming non-secret too, slthough it is unprobable.



And.... Fry, I know what you're trying to say, but still... just think about it... Melee had a big enough roster, but why didn't Sakurai put in more popular figures like Diddy or even his own Dedede? They're being ignored, and we see Nintendo's own stuff like the ICs (hmm, although i like them I think other characters like the Balloon Fighter can represent the FC better), Mr G&W (who is, ugh, hardly a "character" before SSBM) and some I-don't-honestly-want-to-see Dr Mario (Not enough space to put in more characters? Just kill some unneeded stuff like unused sounds and Dr Mario so we can exchange for another character!)... They don't even get any votes at all! C'mon, admit it, Sakurai hates second-party - or, if you think that's a harsh comment, he favours Nintendo EAD (although, yes, we see a lot of RD1 and Pokemon charaters as well)!
EDIT: Well... yeah, I was, like, saying junks. Just look at what I said, it doesn't make sense at all.

Not just his day, but I can see this as the first Brawl update that DK Vine'll actually get excited over! Who'd have thought that would ever happen?

They've gotten excited over DK, Smshville, Subspace Emissary...

I thought he was an AT first on the site as the banner WARNING did not show... And now I'm happier than ever, as Diddy's my favorite DK character. He deserved to be in Melee.

I'm not even being biased, Diddy's a video game hero and very popular, my favorite Kong.

Okay, so one thing has me confused. YoungLink keeps talking like Fire Emblem, WarioWare, Advance Wars etc is second party, and those are Intelligent Systems games, right?

Well, I could have sworn that Intelligent Systems was a first party developer. Does anyone want to set me straight on this?

Falcon's coming back... there's no other reason that his emblem would've been used on the Samurai Goroh update. It's not like it can represent any other characters in the F-Zero series.

...Except Blood Falcon.

Intelligent Systems, Game Freak, Hal and Creature(what ever they do) are 2nd party. 2nd means they are owned by Nintendo, but aren't Nintendo. Any game by R&D 1 or EDA is 1st party. This incliudes Mario, Zelda, Metroid (Prime is done by 2nd party) Starfox, F-Zero, Ice Climbers and now Donkey Kong. The reason we see more 1st party characters and franchises is becuase those are the biggest franchises Nintendo has.

Another reason is that most second parties handle franchises that started as a first party franchise. Consider this list which isn't comprehensive (go to the site for that), but illustrates how the bigger franchises are broken down.

First Party Franchises -
Mario (3 characters, 1 possible character) [it's worth noting that Bowser is the only character to not have his own game]
Legend of Zelda (2 characters)
Wario (1 character)
Animal Crossing (1 possible character)
Pikmin (none)

First Party Franchises No Longer Active
Kid Icarus (1 character)
Ice Climber (1 possible character)

First Party Franchises Handled By Second Or Third Parties -
Star Fox (1 character)
Donkey Kong (2 characters)
F-Zero (1 character)
Metroid (1 character)
Yoshi (1 character)
(Mario can be repeated here as well)

Second Party Franchises -
Fire Emblem (1 character)
Kirby (2 characters)
Earthbound (1 character)
Pokemon (2 characters)
Nintendo Wars (none)
Custom Robo (none)

And that's just for Brawl. Consider that Melee had 2 Fire Emblem Characters and 4 Pokemon characters. It's less that Nintendo doesn't care for second parties... it's just that there's not a whole lot that didn't originate with Nintendo. Some of them are just left untapped, more or less. Custom Robo and Wars are good examples of that.

Even if we just get Falcon, Ness, and Ice Climbers, it would still make the vetern square nice and neat.

However, what character will be next... While Dedede is the most requested character, the guy is basically going to be a larger, heavier clone of Kirby, who can't copy abilities. He floats, he can inhale, he has a hammer, and he can float in the air to land on opponents. About the only think Dedede doesn't have is the Final Cutter and Chef, and that is likely how he will be differentiated from Kirby. I get the feeling that like Luigi and Falco, he will be an acceptable 'clone' fighter and will have to be unlocked.

This pretty much leaves the furry fanservice card of Krystal for Starfox to appear next, unless Lucas has indeed replaced Ness.

King Dedede and Krystal both sound like they'd be unlockable to me. Maybe not King Dedede if Meta Knight is unlockable instead, but definitely Krystal.

I think our next Newcomer might be Captain Olimar, or Lucas if he is indeed replacing Ness. Though actually, now that our prophet has been disproven, what if the two coexisted? Making sure the two aren't clones would be easy-peasy in the B-moves department, though I wouldn't really know how to make the two fight very differently from each other. In any case, if Ness is still around he'll be a starter and Lucas'll be unlockable, so we'll see who gets revealed on the site first.
