But if Bumper, Tiptup and Timber are still owned by Rare... how come they appeared in DKR DS, when Banjo and Conker didn't?
Bizarre...

Because Rare helped make DKR:DS. On their site, they admit to being able to make DS and GBA games, but not Wii or GameCube.
I guess Conker and Banjo are now partly owned by Microsoft, because those characters have/will appear on a Microsoft system.

Rare says differently."As far as I'm aware - after asking around - all the major DKR characters who aren't Kongs or Kremlings still belong to Rare. Which would make Diddy, Dixie, Tiny and Krunch the 'licensed' ones in this case. And that means we can still do the M-rated Bumper prequel story! Thank you Jesus!" As far as he's aware? That comment doesn't fill me with confidence. Although M-Rated Bumper prequel sounds awesome. Thank you Jesus indeed! ;D I wish everyone would stop asking for more playable Mario characters. Nobody's going to go "wow! More Mario characters" though. If there's more, there's more. But this isn't called "Super Mario Smash Brothers"... Yea the only new additions for MArio that would be super unique are Geno, Mallow, Wanda, and Pauline....bad thing is Geno is the only popular one ...and the rest are rip offs or looks like rip offs (sorry to Bowser Jr, Daisy, and WAluigi fans) Toad is back asa shield...unless he's unlockable... Bowser Jr. practically represents the same deal as his parent, so his inclusion is not necessary. Geno and DAisy, well at least they would represent Mario series that haven't been represented.

Pauline would not be unique. She has literally never done anything other than get captured. You just like her...
There's loads of potential in the Mario series... you could fill all 40 slots with Mario characters if you so desired... but that's not the point.

The way I see it is like this:
Mario's Big Eight are Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Toad, Wario, Yoshi and Donkey Kong. The first five characters have been involved with the franchise since Super Mario Bros., and the last three host a bevvy of spin-off games, essentially becoming their own universes. The only new cast member the franchise could possibly need is Toad, but he's already part of Peach's special move set and doesn't have any original moves to his name. Waluigi, Bowser Jr., Daisy and Dr. Mario are all afterthoughts, and Dr. Mario only got in because of his sexy music--that's not something any of the other minor characters have to their advantage.
Waluigi has yet to be in a true Mario game, and Daisy has only been in one that's almost twenty years old; Bowser Jr. has Mario Sunshine and New SMB to his name, but even then what does he do that Bowser can't? What gives Bowser Jr. an advantage over Geno or Vivian, who have been in two geniune Mario games as well and were actually playable in one of them? Not to mention they have a larger, much more vocal fanbase and room for more variety than Bowser Jr. would allow. Why shouldn't the Mario RPGs get a representative, rather than another Mario platforming character? These characters are all on the same level of importance, and I don't think any of 'em deserve the chance to be playable this time around. Maybe once Smash Brothers 5 comes out and has a cast of eighty that's composed largely of secondary characters--that'd be fine with me. For now, though, Mario only needs the Fab Four it has at the moment.

I'm afraid of mentioning Shadow Mario because I'm not sure if the idea is so n00b and trivial that you are avoiding it ^_^ It pops up often in Bowser Jr. discussions, and I don't understand why it doesn't here. I feel that Petey Piranha being the only boss revealed so far isn't good, because it makes one assume stuff that might not be important, such as the size, or ignoring stuff that might be important, such as how major a boss has to have been in the original games. We need more boss updates.

I ignored Shadow Mario because that's just opening the doors for another Mario clone. We already have Dr. Mario and Luigi, and that's more than enough.

Pauline could be better as an AT. Maybe she would throw Mini-Marios around so these little toys would attack anyone who gets close?

All I want is for Nintendo to show more respect to it's retro characters, they are basically the introduction of it's success.

Well, maybe she could be kidnapped by Donkey Kong (who is being mind-controlled by the Subspace Army) and so it is up to Mario to climb a vertically-scrolling stage to the top while avoiding barrels.

^ That's what I was thinking , she can also work as an alternate costume. I mean instead of Toad she can use a mini Mario toy, and she also has a parasol. As for the tennis racket and stuff, she can use her purse and other items she dropped. Im not so sure about the dress though, would that affect the character? hmmm.

I don't think Pauline even meets the Bowser Jr./Waluigi level of importance so far as Mario characters go. She doesn't even have Assist Trophy potential--as Fry said, all she has ever done, period, is get kidnapped.

I'd love to see here in more Mario games, but, much like Daisy, don't want her in my Smash.
