...but to be honest... I think we can safely rule her out now... no? Not really... I mean, I don't really think she'll be in, but... The Home-Run Bat didn't discount Ness from being in, and the Screw Attack didn't discount Samus... I don't see why Lip's Stick should discount her. This is what I keep hearing... but it's not the same. The Homerun bat is melee is not a refrence to Ness.... or Earthbound. Just to baseball in general. The trophy description for the Homerun bat says it's from Super Smash Brothers, not Earthbound. But besides that... Ness doesn't use his Baseball bat as a weapon in all of his attacks. Only his Fwd Smash attack is where he uses it... and he pulls it out of hammerspace. Normally though... he fights unarmed (or with his psychic powers). It's different here first of all because Lip's stick cannot possibly a refrence to anything but Lip. Not only that, but I completely doubt they could design a moveset for Lip that doesn't involve her using that stick in every attack. She would wave it around... and not punch and kick like Ness. So if it were an item... what would Lip do when she grabbed it? Would she hold two identical sticks? I don't see that happening... It's not the same with Samus's screw attack either. That's a powerup... like the mushroom or the invincibility star. Samus isn't seen holding the screw attack in all of her animations. What would be the same... was if the Master Sword was an item. Then... what would Link do when he grabbed one? Would he hold two? Or would they design his moveset so that he pulled HIS master sword out of hammerspace when he attacks, but doesn't hold it otherwise? Way too unlikely... and that's the situation Lip is in right now. Sorry for going uneccessarily in depth... it's just... all morning I've read posts about Lip being in brawl... and this item... to ME at least.... proves she can't be.

I hope Mr. Saturn stays. And can somehow avoid being eaten by Munchlax. :<

Why did anyone assume Lip would be playable anyway? She seems so unlikely that even me - who wants every Nintendo hero ever as playable - thinks she's got nothing to offer. I mean it would be vaguely possible, in the same way Captain Falcon was vaguely possible. But that's all.
I agree about the lacklustre Pokemon models. But they're way off N64 quality. They're slightly better than SSBM's models. Considering the quality of the Assist models it does raise an eyebrow - but then maybe there will be dozens of them!

With the Lip's Stick item being shown, I would think Lip's chances of being a playable fighter in SSBB have now gone down. However, Ness has the home run bat in both SSB64 and SSBM, and it's been a spawning item in both games. The one Ness has is just slightly different. There are many items that are similar to moves other characters have. Also, remember the Screw Attack item? EDIT: Oops. I didn't see your post being modified, Da robot. The Hom,e Run Bat is actually a made for Smash item Nice to see another Pokemon actually. Good idea, but man, he sure is a glutton if he's eating pokeballs and Mr. Saturn.

This is interesting. Do assist trophies count as items while their in play? What Would happen if he ate a bob-omb or goooie bomb? Can he eat a barrel?

Yes, Gulpin or Swalot would be better for chowing down on those big container items. ;D

What if another Pokemon is out and Munchlax eats that! I think the ATs are slightly less polished than playable characters but still around the same graphical level. I really want to say the game looks next-gen for the Wii and it kinda does, but some ATs look fine for the current gen now.. such as Goroh and I suppose Devil. Not exactly last-gen either, right? FLUDD looks a bit like his Sunshine counterpart but looks a little more polished. Mario games in Brawl never share the same models as Mario games so yeah, used to that. EDIT: Jeeeeeez, Lip can still be an AT. It's just an item. Mario still uses fireballs around fire flowers and Samus still can screw attack. Lip probably just pops up with a similar stick. Or use like, Furil. Probably not.

If they do make Lip playable, couldn't they just remove the Lip's Stick item and use some other item for flower-headedness?

I don't see why everyone wants Lip. What can she do? She was in a Tetris type game, if I'm not mistaken. How is that interesting? Kirby is awesome because he has a unique power, as does Yoshi and Pikachu, and all the other characters. But Lip? Does she have psychic powers like Ness? Can she shoot flames like Mario? Tell me, what can she do?!

Ever notice the Animal Crossing character's expressions in the last screen shot? Hilarious! ;D
And nice to see another Pokemans! Wonder why Assist Trophies seem to come along more frequently. This is also another update for Fry to add to the site, along with Lip's Stick.

I think that Lip/Furil could fight like Ai from “Neo Geo Battle Coliesum“ www.youtube.com/watch?v=OB8dAlL18z4 (cue, Make panepon blocks fall from the ski) still the biggest obstacle agaist Lip for being in brawl, is that Nintendo had being removing her from HER OWN GAMES since day one!! (just luck how Panepon on the DS and the GBA had zero characters) (still she is a female and the main character from one of Nintendo popular franchises that was allready represented in Melee, so she has some points in her favor)

Sakurai can make up moves for any characters. He made up moves for Ice Climbers (who had only one attack in the original NES game), Sheik (who had no moves other than up special and down special), Fox (whose special moves were based off the Arwing's abilities), Zelda (whose special moves were based off Link's magic spells), etc. so I don't see why Lip is impossible.

He dosen't do much help. When I looked it up, I thought it was a sonic character.

Arcadenik, these arguments are bandied about with reckless abandon. You see, the difference being that Captain Falcon is a bounty hunter, and was given a backstory and a handful of comics. Fox is a gun-for-hire, and again, was given comics to flesh out his past. Their character artwork sport weaponry. They are action characters, even though we never got to play as them.
The fact their movesets are made up specifically for the Smash series has always been a bit of a sore point. Of course it's all generally accepted these days with the success of the Smash series. But I remember at the time it was a bit of a disappointment.
Hell, a bunch of Fox's moves have even been transcribed to his on-foot games.
So yes, there are loads of characters that could feasibly be turned into playable fighters despite their lack of action in games. Lip is one of them. But why would you WANT to do that? It seems a waste of a playable character slot when there are still dozens of much more suitable candidates who have not (yet) been included.
