I don't care how he talks. I just want to play as him. Oh, and is it true that Pikachu, Pichu, Jigglypuff, and Mewtwo sound like their anime counterparts?

I agree that the facts Arcadenik has mentioned are important, though it's annoying that he keeps mentioning Gardevoir. That poll is outdated statistically and doesn't show what's important in Nintendo's history.
The moveset suggested by Arcadenik is also nice because the Meowth species is known to be kleptomaniac. I'm not a fan of the guitar thing, thought I don't doubt it could happen -_-
As for the voices, remember that Team Rocket's Meowth is not the only one in the anime, so they could use the voice of a generic Meowth.

If Meowth got in... would you guys prefer it if he spoke in his 4kids voice, or if he just said his name like other pokemon? I stopped watching Pokemon after the Johto League. I just saw a recent episode and noticed that every single characters voice has been changed! Only Pikachu retains the voice from his original voice actress. All the voices on the anime now are horrible. Especially Meowth's. I loved his Brooklyn accent, and now hes done by a woman?! No for me on 4Kid's voices. 4Kid's has ruined my childhood.

Actually, Meowth was voiced by a woman before, too XD she was just, you know...better. The new voices are pretty bad, no doubt about it. But that's what happens when you lose the license to dub a cartoon! The new company can't take all the old voice actors with them because they're signed up with the old company, and so, need to provide their own acting. In this case, the new company (4Kids? I forget, it's never really been that important to me) tried to get people that sound generally like the old actors, and just fell flat on their faces. As for Meowth actually talking, I don't think so. That's strictly an anime trait; while it's obvious the anime has influence on who gets in, it doesn't really affect much else. If that were the case, then we'd have Ash instead of Red, Bulbasaur rather than Ivysaur, and Jigglypuff would have used that marker/microphone thing. The only thing that comes into doubt is Mewtwo's ability to "project" words in the Japanese language setting for Melee. Anyone who saw the first Pokémon movie knows this trait is present in the anime continuity. In English Melee, all we hear are his grunts and yells and stuff, but that's because he's not region-specific (like Marth and Roy were--the only two characters to have full in-game/post-game dialogue, which was okay since Fire Emblem was a Japan-only game at the time). Also, we have no proof that Mewtwo can canonically broadcast his thoughts in the games, since he stays silent when you confront him in RBYFRLG. But his telepathic powers and intelligence have been hinted at in Pokédex data, so the fact that he can project thoughts in the Japanese version of the game doesn't seem entirely far-fetched.

Don't knock over the anime's influence in Smash Bros. We even got the Pichu Bros. in one of the Event Matches and the Meowth's Party trophy which that Meowth can talk and stands on two legs (just like the anime's Meowth!)
Oh, and correct me if I'm wrong but I see Meowth walking on two legs in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. And it seems Meowth and Pikachu are the only non-starter Pokemon from the first-generation to be in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. We already got Squirtle, Ivysaur, Charizard, and Pikachu, so why not Meowth join them?
I also see that two of the starter Pokemon of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2 ended up in Pokeballs (Munchlax and Piplup).
Besides, the only reason we didn't get Ash is because he is an anime character unlike Red. And we didn't get Bulbasaur is because Pokemon Trainer needed a Pokemon to represent the second stage of evolution: Squirtle is the first stage and Charizard is the third stage... Of course someone has to be in the second stage!
Meowth is not an anime character as he originated as a game character therefore it is perfectly fine if he gets in Brawl with some traits from the games (he knows Pay Day unlike his anime counterpart) and the anime (talking can be his winning poses and taunts; Meowth's Party as his Final Smash)

Misty's trophy is also taken straight out of the anime. She didn't wear that outfit in the games.

Anyways, I didn't care he was done by a woman, as long as you couldn't tell. Actually, it seems everyone was voiced by a woman. EDIT Holy crap you were right. It was a transgender! ;D Check it out on Wikipedia!

^ Yeah, I just found out the guy who did the voice for Gary, still does, and also does the voices of many male characters now including Meowth.

Well, you learn something new every day...
Another thing to keep in mind, though; every playable Pokémon in SSB has either been rare or one-of-a-kind. Pikachu has always been uncommon in every main Pokémon game and you can only obtain one as a starter in Yellow. Pichu could only be obtained through breeding a Pikachu up through the third generation, and even though they're wild for the fourth, they're still hard to come by. Jigglypuff is difficult to find wherever they're located. And then Squirtle, Ivysaur, Charizard and Mewtwo can only be obtained once per gamefile without trading out for more.
Meowth has always been relatively easy to find, where you can get ahold of one; the only exception so far, I think, is Diamond and Pearl where they're uncommon on certain days in the Pokémon Garden. Whether or not this has any baring, I dunno...I think it could mean something. But it could easily just be coincidence.

With all this talk, I thought of a fake game idea, a Pokemon game based on the anime! I would post this in my Fake Game thread in Contemporary Nintendo, but no one responded, so that would be double-posting. Wait, the voice is a transgender?!? I'm never watching that show again! EDIT: Fry moved my thread to the Fan Art/Fic board. First of all, you could always edit your posts. Second, it may of been a transgender, but that shouldn't affect if you watch the show or not. It's not like Meowth would say "Hey everyone! Look at me flaunt my sexuality! I'll go out with women and men! Yay for me!"

lol TVEye has a valid point. Just because someone is a transgender shouldn't be enough to make you no longer want to watch it. It's not that big a deal, and you won't become a transgender if you watch it (and who's to say being one is a bad thing?), so relax. They're people with feelings too, ya know.

Wait, the voice is a transgender?!? I'm never watching that show again! I hate you.
