A lot of the DKVine members aren't even Earthbound/MOTHER fans and they're upset by this development. Personally, I thought they had quite a few Brits over there, none of whom received a single Mother/Earthbound game. So they have no (good) reason to pick one over the other really.

Bendilin, the Admin who went on his whole bold-enlarged-font "WIZZLE NINTENDO >8(" rant is from the UK. A lot of their other members are from Europe as well, which does nothing for their anti-MOTHER3 stances...

That would be good if the Dokidoki Panic characters weren't owned by Fuji Hmm.... then wouldn't Shy Guy, Birdo, Bob-omb, Pidgit, Peach's vegetable move, Peach's floating jump, etc. not in Melee since they were originally from Doki Doki Panic? If Doki Doki Panic characters are owned by Fiji, why is Nintendo still using Doki Doki Panic characters like Shy Guy, Pokey, Bob-omb, Birdo, Pidgit, etc.?

Fuji only owned the four main characters. Nintendo created the enemies.

Pay him no mind.

Arcadenik, Dokidoki Panic was developed as a promotional piece for the Yume Koojoo 87 festival Fuji was doing. The main characters were used across the promotional materials.
But the game itself, all the enemies, items and everything other than the MAIN characters were created (and therefore owned) by Nintendo.
So when time came for the game to be redeveloped, all they had to do was remove the original characters and slot in the Mario ones. The fact they did a lot more work on the game than that, and inserted a load of other Mario bits (including the run function) was all bonus. And yes, Super Mario Bros. 2 is in fact a much-improved version of Dokidoki Panic.
But the upshot is, the main characters of Dokidoki Panic are not going to appear in Brawl.

This is the strangest thread ever! First we talked about Lucas, then DK Vine, now Doki Doki Panic? IMO though, DDP was way better with Mario thrown in. They should just do that with other games!

Careful. You never know when some other forum is going to quote you and say something like: "OMG These guys want Mario to be in every game!! They're NOT REAL fans!!!" EDIT: Ok, I'm pushing it now. Sorry. The whole thing had me a little worked up though.

Haha... Throw Mario in other games? Nice... I can see it...
The Legend of Peach = Mario version of The Legend of Zelda
Brick Breaker = Mario version of Ice Climber
Mushroom Seal = Mario version of Fire Emblem
Luigi's Horror Land = Mario version of Kirby's Dream Land

Well let's take a theoretical path that Adventures on dinosaur planet would have been better as a Mario game. (Keep the glaring programing errors though.) - There would have been Yoshis perhaps Tricky would have been one [+]
- The opining of the levels would have likley been like the patforming segments of Super Mario Sunshine rather than those Arwing levels [++]
- Mario would probably had to fight with a plunger or something like that [-+][?]
- We would probably never have to see the stupid female character outside of Mario party ever again.[++]
- The final battle with bowser would have sucked. [-]
- Enemies Would have been familiar [meh]
All and all the game still would have sucked but it would have been better than it is.

WTF!
I leave this thread for a few days and return to find I have been quoted and remarked about on DKVine!
Man . . . I never saw that coming. With that "first and not only last Japan only" quote was just me hoping for more Japanese only characters like Takamaru, Sukapon and Starfy to be in the game.

Think of Doki Doki Panic like Mike Tyson's Punch-Out... It was a Nintendo game that used a license for the main stars. As later ports of Punch-Out!! took out Mike Tyson for Mr. Dream, the four main characters from Doki Doki Panic were taken out and replaced with Mario characters... They also improved the gameplay a bit and took out saving, but essentially, they CAN'T republish Doki Doki Panic without the license for the Fuji TV characters, but they CAN republish Super Mario Bros. 2 USA and use characters from that game.
Besides, I'm sure they will give us both Marth & Ness, but as secret characters... Ike's moves are completely different from Marth's and there are enough moves to differentiate Ness & Lucas... (For Example, Ness uses PK Rockin', while Lucas uses PK Love, and I imagine both being Final Smashes... There is also unused attack moves PK Freeze & PK Ground, though Kumatora uses them and... And PK Teleport and PK Brainshock, though the former is from Mother 2 and the later is an Assist)
