@fry: The reason I "ganged" up on Tei was I felt is post was just MADNESS (not to be mean, I know your smart Tei, but that's also why I expected better).
Hating it is fine, but I feel that it needs to be a bit more justified then "lazy". I'm repeating myself, but lazy feels more like an excuse then a legitimated reason. What you said, and some of Tei is fine, just I feel that laziness alone is not a firm reason.

So we still arguing over whether sprites in Smash was laziness on Sakurai's part or design choice on Sakurai's part?

No, I think we're beyond that and at that point where I say something most people disagree with and Fryguy jumps in to save the day--the Superman to my oh-so-sexy Lois Lane.
And I'm single, boys. Rowr.
This always happens on most forums I go to except the people who dislike what I say are usually mean/dumb/not my friends, and I don't have Fry to come to my defense. This is also the point where I usually get really angry--much angrier than I should be given that it's an argument on a forum of people I'll never meet off the internet--and thnen realize how dumb it is of me to get that angry, so I leave the forum without telling anyone except the one or two people I know outside said forum. But like I said, you guys are nicer, more intelligent, and actually like me (or do a very good job of pretending ;D) so I'm not really all that mad and I don't plan on taking off.
Granted--it's a dumb issue. It won't affect how I like the overall game and I'm not going to boycott it just because of these kinds of Assist trophies. But it still annoys me a lot and I reserve my right to express my opinion. I'd have loved to see a 3D Lakitu Assist, since as somebody pointed out beforehand, we haven't seen him 3D in a game that matters since Super Mario 64/SM64DS, which are not the most graphically advanced games...and Lakitu is one of my favorite generic Mario baddies. XD He's such a prick. To me he deserves a good 3D look. (Excitebike doesn't bother me so much.)
And yeah, the "epic" thing was pretty hypocritical of me. Especially since I was the one saying Brawl wasn't epic enough to warrant latin-orchestrated lyrics ages ago. So I apologize for that, but I still stand by my other arguments. Even the ones that don't make much sense to you guys.

Calm down Tei... I'm not coming to your defense like some spandex-coated hero out of the blue... that wants to have sweaty man love! I actually agree with you. As evidenced by me posting said ideas first  I agree that it seems lazy, and I don't think I can explain any better. It's a personal preference thing - we knew Sakurai couldn't please everyone with everything. And yes, it doesn't affect my overall opinion of the game. The more he pours in to it, the less it will affect it. I mean, if there's 50 Assists, and three are sprites, then I don't care. If there's only 20 Assists and 3 are sprites, then it starts looking lazy. That's a big percentage! If the latter is true, I will still enjoy the game, but Assists will be not as amazing as they could be... and I will be waiting until Super Smash Bros. Skirmish in 2012 on the Nintendo Piinis to fix that fault (which it no doubt will). Can't please everyone all the time. And this update did not please me or Tei. Simple as that. If you're concerned that your opinion may differ, I offer a series of self-help tapes that will help you come around to our way of thinking... ;D |

Wow... you guys are amazing.
You actually ended an argument... and ended it on good terms... looked at things from other angles and expressed your points of view clearly.... and the whole thing went through without overused pictures of cats or owls.
Of course, then it fizzled into a discusion about private parts... but still... it was an impressive display of internet forum ethics!
I'm impressed. I might have to stick around here for a while more (or at least until Brawl is released).

The sprite assists will hopefully be only a small percentage of all the assists. I guess we won't know until... the game comes out. And while I disagree with your point on laziness, you and TEi are obviously entitled to your opinions. I hope no one thought I was trying to be mean. I don't want to give that impression as a newbie. Just trying to state my opinions as well. |

It's just a debate ;D We have them quite often. The way I see it, I hate arguing as nobody gets anywhere, but I love debating! If I can't bring someone over to my way of thinking, I hope I can at least make them understand why I hold my opinion without everyone thinking it's wrong. Of course I also understand why the stylistic decision to have sprites is in there (I still think it's to prevent slowdown, more than anything, though). And hey - if we're not carrying out a reasonable debate, toilet humour is the best fallback. We do have a lot of Brits here, after all... myself included! |

Fry and I had a pretty engaging debate about Mario Sunshine a year or so ago, and I think this is no different than that. And I like the group we have here. It's a rare thing when we actually push each other over the edge.  |

Helps that you have such a reasonable, chilled out (and awesome) admin then, doesn't it But this is why I have the vague general rule about everyone explaining themselves rather than making lists or one-word posts... the only difference between an argument and a debate is reasons... but WHAT a difference they make! |
