Ummm.... Pac-Man is the Sonic in the 1980s. There is a hit song called Pac-Man Fever, a Pac-Man cartoon show, and lots of merchandise including T-shirts, plushes, etc. Therefore Pac-Man is popular, too. Was popular. In the 1980s. Now you can pick up a couple T-shirts in Gamestation, and that's it. But like I said, I wouldn't be surprised if he was in. And if Pac-Man is the Sonic of the 80s, and you want him in... why are you complaining that the Sonic of the 90s is in?

I can't wait to pit Sonic vs Snake just for the laughs. This game is turning epic (and it will be truly epic unitl they add Jgglypuff back).

I'm confused at what this thread has become and its only been like 3 hours.
Pacman has plenty of potential moves, so I don't see why that would be a problem. And he's plenty iconic - in fact he's probably only behind Mario in that regard (yeah, higher than Sonic). I would very much love to see him in.
But yeah, back to whatever the topic has become in the time it took me to type this. I'm guessing its now about donkeys. Eh-orrrrrrrrrrr.

Arcadenick... just quit it. You guys can argue about this all day... but the fact of the matter is... Sonic the Hedgehog is a household name. He's in Smash Brothers. it was a great idea. Deal with it. What makes Sonic appealing to the masses than Pac-Man despite the fact they are some of the most important characters in gaming? Or simply because he is so cool? Exactly that!

Pac-Man's only really iconic in the retro gamer crowd. In that sense he's more iconic than Mario. The retro stuff at Gamestation is certainly mostly Pac-Man. But there's zero contemporary Pac-Man stuff, and even the contemporary Mario stuff is outnumbered (and usually outsold) by Sonic stuff. At least in my local Gamestation.

Sonic is simply overrated. For years I have seen thousands, if not hundreds, spam threads about Sonic littering all over the Smash board in Nsider that I found him overrated.
Did I say I wanted Pac-Man in Brawl? I didn't... I used him as an example to counterargue your statement that people want Sonic in Brawl just because he is one of the most important characters in gaming.... that's why I pointed out Pac-Man. He is also one of the most important characters in gaming yet he is not wanted.
So you in turn said Pac-Man is just a big yellow ball that eats dots and ghosts and therefore he has no potential in Brawl. So I brought up that Pac-Man do have potential thanks to Pac-Man World games and therefore there's no excuse to use that "no potential" argument against Pac-Man.
Which brings us back to why Pac-Man isn't demanded by the masses like Sonic is despite them being two of the most important characters in gaming. So what makes Sonic the best thing since NES?

Pac-Man's only really iconic in the retro gamer crowd. Isn't that part of the target audience for Brawl?

Nobody said he was the best thing since the NES. Stop being a dick, Arcadenik. The fact is, people do want Pac-Man. But he's just not as popular as Sonic is outside of the relatively niche retro crowd. You don't understand why Sonic is popular - that's fine, but it doesn't give you the right to think his fans shouldn't be allowed to play as him. Honestly, this announcement was pretty much confirmed the day 3rd party characters were revealed. Just quit your whining. EDIT: Yes, DiU, it is. WHICH IS WHY I KEEP SAYING PAC-MAN IS PROBABLY IN AAARGH LISTEN

Okay, about the Walk of Game, that really counts as nothing. You know how awards are chosen for the Walk of Game? Through a month-long vote held every October on the INTERNET! OH MY GOD!! You're on the internet right now!! You just lost ALL credibility! Halo is in the Walk of Game for crying out loud! And where's Pac-Man in the Walk of Game? Hmmm.. could it be because he is.... *gasp* uncool? Halo was a pretty revolutionary and iconic game. Why shouldn't it be in there? People vote for the games they think deserve recognition. Obviously some people think these games are more deserving than Pac-Man. I for one think that Space Invaders is much more deserving as a retro game. You know you just lost ALL your credibility, too? You are on the Internet with the rest of us. Arcadenick... just quit it. You guys can argue about this all day... but the fact of the matter is... Sonic the Hedgehog is a household name. Or simply because he is so cool? Exactly that! Yeah, that's one of the most popular reasons why Sonic is most wanted. Oh, and I will deal with it by having Snake break Sonic's neck. ;D

Seriously.... it was the next logical step for Smash Brothers. The novelty of having Nintendo characters fight each other has worn off thanks to the first 2 games.... this is a way to breathe life into the series and make it exciting for people again.
I'm excited just to have Kirby and Link in the same game... but the effect HAS worn off for most people.
Sonic is the PERFECT addition... and so is Solid Snake. Brawl rules and it just keeps getting better.

Yes Navi. I knew Sonic's announcement would make the internet blow up, but I didn't think it would cause such a meltdown here.

I would be shocked if Pac-Man got in. Because if he did, then maybe my dreams was right. I dreamed that Pac-Man was in and for some reason I was jumping for joy.
In another dream, I saw that two dragons, one red-orange and one black-purple, playable.... I summed it as nothing because why would Charizard be playable? Pokemon Trainer was announced a few months later.
In another dream, I saw a NES sprite version of Donkey Kong in Brawl but I thought that was just silly.. but now I am afraid the Excitebike AT update could make that possible....

I wonder when the novelty of having third-party characters fighting Nintendo characters wears off.. will that be when we have to have anime characters?

But an item that turns a character into whatever they looked like in their original game for a few seconds? Fucking win.
