What do some of us here tell you guys? Just be patient, we do usually get one character per week. On some we just don't. And I knew he was gonna be there. So yay!

Amazing.
I think there won't be "secret" characters in Brawl. From a... mediatic perspective, secret characters tend to be unknown to the mass public compared with the starters. There will be starters and unlockables, but no secret characters. Basically, because they won't be "secret" anymore and would be as popular as the starters.
My two cents there.

I could certainly see this happening for the most part - that way Sakurai can use unlockables in Adventure mode. BUT if that was true theres no way Sakurai wouldn't do at least one -absolutely-nobody-knows-about secret character. Yeah, but that -absolutely-nobody-knows-about secret character can't be a super important character to guarantee the surprise. I only see Geno fitting that bill, is a very desired character but isn't the most important thing ever for Nintendo. The ultimate guest from a hazy past even Nintendo neglected. The other option is an original character, like a "Subspace Emperor" or something like that. |

All of these characters are obscure, but very unimportant. Is what people like to call a "joke character". For the last unlockable you expect something epic. Mr. Game & Watch was a joke, but also true is the fact that is one of the most important "trademarks" for Nintendo, or at least, was. Nobody saw it coming, but at the same time nobody can disprove him of being important for Nintendo. |

...really? What was 64's 'epic' character then?
I'm pretty sure, at least based on the last 2 games, the last character is wtf-didn't-see-that-coming, not 'epic'. I mean, it certainly could change, but I'd be betting on it being 'crazy' instead.
You know who fits the bill for both though? Captain N. Or whatshisname from the Wizard. Or the Super Mario Super Show Mario with DO THE MARIO attacks.

At this point, I would say that any character with more than 2 comments is going to be in Brawl as default characters... Including Geno, Krystal, Ridley, Capt. Olimar, Takamaru and the return of Young Link, now Wind Waker'd. King Dedede was the perfect unlockable character and even HE is default. Also... You know who fits the bill for both though? Captain N. Or whatshisname from the Wizard. Or the Super Mario Super Show Mario with DO THE MARIO attacks. Captain N so needs to be the secret unlockable of the Subspace Emissary. I own the Captain N complete DVDs and he's owned by Nintendo! He could even get a complete redesign to make him badass. =P |

Thank you Sakurai. Not only did you finally give us a character, but one of the ones I've wanted. I have Diddy, Dedede, now all I need Olimar and I'm good.
On the topic of starters, I think Dedede will be a starter. I think it's safe to sayb there will be unlockables of some kind. When ask if there would be no more hidden characters, Sakurai disagreed saying that unlocking them is part of the fun, so chances are there will be unlockables. Also, don't forget that the starting roster is suppose to be much bigger then the hidden on. In SSB it was 8:4. In Melee it was suppose to be 14:7, but the clones came. It's hard to say how Sakurai will do it now, but we'll probably have a much larger staring then Hidden.
Also, with the Subspace Emissary, I beleive all the starters will be involved in some way. The hidden, probably not. Fry I beleive mentioned that we probably haven't seen a hidden yet, but the 3rd party ones may be hidden. My idea was that they would be involved with the SE, but you would unlock them though playing the main story.
Overall, update wins. No, it's MADE of win. Turned on my computer, connected to the internet, and was bombarded with a win torrent.

Those two avatars of yours are the kind of things that I'd expect; however, they're too specifc to a hardware (Game Boy) and only as accessories. IMO the characters that make more sense (of that kind) would be a playable R.O.B. or a living Game Boy. And for real characters, maybe an 8-bit version of Mario. |

Would it be possible that Dedede can "glide" instead of hopping in the air? If I remember correctly, he can fly with some freedom. Maybe he can puff up like a balloon as the jump button's held down and "drift". |
