As much as it pains me to say it, Ness is gone. There's nothing we can do.
I think of it like, Ness is the fun guy you used to always hang out with, then he had to move, after all those years you've known him. A new kid moves into his house and is very similar, but still not the same. All that's left to do is just say hi and befriend him.
Know what I'm saying? Or am I just crazy...

No, that's not crazy. That's moving on with your life. I am not upset over Ness's deconfirmation. Lucas is pretty much how Ness would have played if he stayed and Mother 3 never came out. So to me, Lucas is the upgraded Ness. Much like how TP Link is the upgraded OOT Link.

OK, since the topic became a whine fest again It's days like today that I feel like spreading a little hope around these glum forums. I have just one short phrase I'd like to share. I'll throw it out there and see how it goes down... Attack of the Clones!;D

Clones, yeah, the answer to everything. I find it funny that some people were against clones and were hoping for clones to leave Smash are all of sudden asking for clones just as long as Ness is in. XD

XD I actually didn't mind clones like Pichu or Roy, but Dr. Mario was just Mario with a different outfit and different looking attacks. So basically, there were three Mario's in the game. Ganondorf also got me mad because he has so many moves to choose from, and they clone him from Capt. Falcon?! That makes no sense to me.

Wanting clones now isn't too ironic. American people want Ness despite how outdated is his game, because the last game they got from the series in their language is the one where Ness appeared.

Young Link is just Link as a little boy. Pichu is just Pikachu as a baby. Dr. Mario is just Mario in a doctor's outfit. So I am hoping they will be out. But even Young Link now has a better chance of getting in Brawl as a decloned fighter, thanks to The Wind Waker, Four Swords Adventures, and The Minish Cap. So I am hoping Young Link will be decloned based on his recent games as opposed to OOT and MM. The recent Young Link in TWW, TMC, and FSA are not the same person as the recent Link in TP, so that's okay if Young Link comes back.
Ganondorf being Captain Falcon's clone was one big injustice (even though I loved playing as Ganondorf and didn't like playing as Captain Falcon)! But thankfully Brawl will remedy that. As for Roy, well, Ike seems pretty much how Roy would be like if he was decloned. And Falco? Well, I think he is resigning. What else could Falco do that Fox cannot? I mean, Falco and Fox had the exact same fighting background.
So that's my two cents on the clones.

Yeah, that compounded with that lame argument "I don't want to play as a character I don't know anything about" If one doesn't know who Lucas is, Brawl will tell them who is Lucas. Problem solved!

Yeah, I'm fairly sure if they're giving new moves to someone, Ness would have remained the same and Lucas would have had an entirely new moveset. Ness is pretty much guaranteed to be gone. I think Mother, like F-Zero, is sticknig with one character, unless they somehow break the 40 character mark (not likely, but it is Sakurai). If they do get 2.... whats a possible Claus moveset look like, anyway?

DiU, I think Yoshi will have only one character, too. I doubt we will get Baby Mario, Baby Bros., Baby Bowser, or even Kamek.
Anyway, it seems that there are still legions of Ness fanboys who are still in denial by making incredulous statements like how the Dojo translations were badly done or how Ness would be back with a new moveset or that clones will be back despite Sakurai's statement on no clones in Brawl.

See, I was never against clones to begin with. Two of my three Melee favourites (Pichu and Young Link) were clones.
Arcadenik, I think you're missing the point just to be insulting (again). It's not that I didn't want Lucas to replace Ness because I didn't know who Lucas was. No. It's that I don't care about Lucas. I do care about Ness.
I don't care about Ike, either. But then, I didn't care about Marth or Roy. I've never played a Fire Emblem game.

Oh yeah, Yoshi too. And Wario. And Kid Icarus. And Ice Climbers. And Game & Watch. And Metal Gear Solid. And Sonic. And blah blah blah.
There's gonna be a lot with just one. And its certainly in good company.

Yeah, that compounded with that lame argument "I don't want to play as a character I don't know anything about" If one doesn't know who Lucas is, Brawl will tell them who is Lucas. Problem solved! That's an optimistic way to see it. The argument is more like "I prefer to celebrate Nintendo with characters I know". An experience that isn't impossible, but is hard to have if you don't know Japanese or aren't willing to decode the menus or commands in the game. The beauty of Super Smash Bros. is in making your favorite characters fight each other, isn't it? It's not a big deal when Ness and Lucas are so similar, but this is a little different than Fire Emblem in Melee for example, as no Fire Emblem games did ever appear in America before that. The whining for MOTHER 3 isn't new, but started last year when people didn't see plans for a localization for the game or the MOTHER 1 + 2 compilation. Personally the existence of the New Pork City stage would still bother me a little if it has too many spoilers for a game that I'm willing to play when it's unofficially translated... But hopefully it will be completed soon. Does anybody here know what's its current status?

Hmm..wouldn't Marth and Roy be spoilerific in Melee seeing how their trophies talk about their histories? I don't know... anyway, I think Smash Bros. is more for the Japanese Nintendo fans to celebrate Nintendo, and the rest of the world is invited to this Japanese celebration whether we like their characters or not.

I reckon that spoilerific feeling would affect more the people (foreign or Eastern) who were already followers of the Fire Emblem fiction but didn't play Marth's game. I'm not an expert on Marth's game or what its trophy contains, though.
