Here is a quote from Silent Wind of Doom, someone at the Starmen.Net forums:

If you ask me, I think it's purposely misleading to throw us off the trail, perhaps to do what was mentioned earlier, and release Ness tomorrow, or at least give us the shock of a lifetime. Lull us into a sense of disappointment so that the change is that much more surprizing and exciting.

And Lucas's moveset means nothing. Lets look at it...

Lucas kicks up, and Ness pushes up with his arms. Similar, yes, but there are many up-smash moves with are similar. Still distinctively different.

Lucas uses PK Barrage, while Ness uses his Yo-yo. PK Barrage likely more powerful.

Lucas uses PK Fire, but the mechanics are different, and Ness can use a different PSI power in its place (I'll think of which one later when I have more time).

Lucas uses PK Freeze, while Ness uses PK Flash. Flash takes longer, but I bet it has more kick to it. Also, perhaps an added part this time will be a random illness (leech, lip's stick, freezie).

PK Thunder. Very similar, but, perhaps, this move has been transferred in favor of PK Teleport in Ness's repertoire. Very dissapointing, but we don't know.

PSI Magnet. It has been noted that Lucas uses it on one side. Perhaps Ness uses it to cover his entire body, and it instead may be PSI Shield or something to that effect.

Anyway, differences are here, or can be implemented. Ness ain't necessarily gone yet.

I'm fairly certain that the slight differences - and I mean slight - the two have are pretty much nothing, only their to fix balance issues, not as a conscious decision to separate the toy little psychic boys. I believe that, were Ness in and Lucas not, Ness wouldd be looking at something remarkably like Lucas' moveset anyway (save for a couple of changes like yo-yo in, rope snake out). Ultimately I think that Lucas is what Ness would have been.

There is still that megaton bomb-zal-droppen chance. But I think its ridiculously small, and that Ness fans shouldn't be spending this time in denial (just like the US Smash morons who thought that "just because the release date on the site has been removed, and the Japanese date is next year, doesn't mean the US release has been pushed back").

Go back to whining to Nintendo about releasing the Mother games on VC, Earthbound nerds. Cheers.

Actually, I believe Luigi, Ness, Falco, Young Link, and Dr. Mario will return. Mario deviated too much from his mold in Melee to not have Dr. Mario feel as different as Luigi was to Mario in the last game, since he needs a Final Smash and a new Down+B. Luigi can't even be CALLED a clone anymore since he only will share his Super Jump Punch and Fireball with Mario. Between Link's Twilight Princessing and Young Link's Wind Wakering, they will be more different than Mario & Luigi in Melee, even if they both have the Boomerang/Spin Attack/Arrow/Bomb/Hookshot group. In fact, I suspect the only real clone will be Falco, who is pretty much still going to be Fox from Smash 64, but even he will have a different Final Smash to Fox's.

If Ness wasn't going to be in Brawl, Lucas would have PK Flash as Lucas learns that move in his game. Instead, Lucas has PK Freeze and borrows ALL his moves from Kumatora. Lucas has different physical attacks and two of his Specials are different... Sounds like that to Ness, he is a Luigified Clone.

Ness is out. Lucas is how Ness would be like in Brawl. An improved Ness. That's why Lucas surpassed Ness. And Lucas is replacing Ness because in today's update Sakurai is basically saying "oh, Ness has been in the Smash Bros. series up until now but it's okay because Lucas plays similar to Ness so you wouldn't really miss playing as Ness."

Arcadenik, you were being an ass eilier to Tei, and you missed the point. Try to be wary of what you say, and how you do so.

Also, I'm not sadend by this, as I expected it to happen, and I prepped my self for it. I wouldn't be happy he's gone. I mean, we did just lose a character.

Oh, and we didn't exactly lose a character. Lucas is basically an improved Ness. I mean, why would Sakurai keep mentioning Ness in Lucas's updates as if to tell us that Lucas is basically an improved Ness just to soften the "Ness is replaced by Lucas" blow.

I know it's a bit old so I am sorry. The problem wasn't controversal ideas, but how to displayed them. You just need to be more carful with your word choice.

Arcadenik, Smash and I aren't calling you a jerk because of your opinions. We're calling you a jerk because you're being a jerk XD Instead of presenting your points of view (and this pertains to every topic for which you've had an extreme standing), you act insulting and degrading to yourself and those who think differently from you. With Little Mac and Meowth, you threw the biggest temper tantrum I've ever seen on here; knowing the calibre of the posts we're supposed to have here, it was not only disappointing, but embarassing. And while I'm disappointed Goroh isn't playable, at least I got over it.

The point I was trying to make before--the true point--was that it sucks to have a character that was at one point playable being taken from that spot and being turned into an Assist Trophy. That is the true cocktease. That Falco or Ness or Pichu or whomever could not be playable on the best incarnation of the series yet is a disappointment that's hard enough to bear on its own. But then having them in the game anyway? Just out of reach--to be seen but not felt? Imagine if your favorite from Melee got turned into an Assist Trophy, if you can pull your head out of your ass long enough to see from another person's point of view.

Now, I'm not so shallow as to denounce Sakurai for whatever choice he makes. I'll grumble, and I'll say things, but I'll rarely mean them and I'll always get over it. And I won't be a lunatic Falco fanboy and boycott the game and every game Sakurai touches from here til he dies if Falco's not playable--even if he's just an Assist Trophy. It'll mean I'll have to find a new main character and get my Falco loving in older games. I mean, I've never played the original Star Fox--when that comes to the VC it'll give me a whole new experience to enjoy. I'll be disappointed and a little bit sad, and probably angry--but the awesomeness of the game itself will surpass any negative emotions I have. You, though--you act like it's the friggin' end of the world and like Sakurai's set a goal against you, personally. As if you think Sakurai says with each passing day, "How can I piss of this random internet guy Arcadenik today?" Bad mojo, dude, and it's really getting on my nerves.

You're not incapable of being calm and polite. But you choose not to be so often that you make yourself look like a jaded dickhead, instead of just jaded. Fix your attitude, man. Leave the buttclownery for a lesser forum.

Honey, I don't think I threw a big tantrum over every update. I only did that with Sonic's confirmation and Meowth and Little Mac's deconfirmations - which happened just last month.

Anyway, and as for your true point about how it sucks for a playable character becoming an Assist Trophy, well, the same disappointment do apply to potential new playable characters revealed to be unplayable Assist Trophies or Pokeball Pokemon. That sucks, too, because they could have been playable but they have become such cockteasers, "to be seen but not felt", your words. So yeah, get off your high and mighty white horse long enough to see from another person's POV.

Oh, and I think Sakurai is already cockteasing the fans of Ness and Pichu. Lucas got 95% of Ness's old moves. The only thing disappointing about this move is that Ness is not the person using these moves, Lucas is. And one of Pikachu's alternate costumes is one of Pichu's alternate costumes - the one with the goggles. So it sure sucks having to play as Pikachu in goggles and knowing this is not the same as playing as Pichu. So have fun pretending Pikachu with goggles is Pichu.

And where do you get that from? That I'd denounce Brawl? All I did was grumble - just letting out hot air, nothing more. I already pre-ordered this game and I'm picking it up this February, despite not owning a Wii. And in case you didn't know, I'm over Meowth and Little Mac as ATs and Sonic as PC.
