Saki Amamiya appears from Sin & Punishment: Successor to the Earth! This title is currently available via the Virtual Console.Saki stands on solid ground! He uses his weapon, the Cannon Sword, which combines a sword and a gun into one to slice and shoot! He cuts repeatedly without mercy! And shows off his magnificent jump!Take this!!As with the original title, he speaks in English.
He rivals just about any main character. There were many requests from users for his inclusion, and he IS pretty cool, so I did what I could to include him. After all, this game does let you enjoy a dream cast of supporting characters!H-he has absolutely no problem fitting in!

Finally. I'vebeen waiting for them to officially reveal the Assist Trophies and pokemon we saw at E for All.
Funny... I think what Sakurai means by Saki "fitting in" is that his character model is good enough for him to be playable.

Ack. Yet another hack-you-with-sword Assist. The lack of variety so far is a bit unsettling.
On the bright side, we finally get to see screens of Saki in action, since we knew he was in but had nothing to show for it. And, there's only a couple of E For All Assists left that haven't been covered on the Dojo! Too bad there's still a handful of items, a small clutter of special moves, and a nice little pile of Poke Balls to cover before we've seen everything we already know about.

Not a bad update. Nice to see some S&P inclusion as well and to confirm somthing from E for All. I can see why that one site thought he was a girl at first from this image. I agree with you NR, the character really does look good enough to be like a playable character but how many votes did Saki (or any other S&P character) get on the poll? EDIT thores. Techanally he doesn't just slash at people, he jumps around and shoots as well.

Seeing Saki in SSBB as an Assist Trophy is better than not seeing him at all OR as a Sticker or a regular Trophy. Saki isn't the only video game character that looks like a girl armed with a lightsaber-like weapon. There is also Zero from the Mega Man series. Some people think that Sin & Punishment: Successor to the Earth is 3RD-Party, because Treasure developed it. Also, some Wikipedians believe he is 3RD-party, because of Sonic and Metal Gear characters appearing in SSBB. However, there aren't any 3RD-Party characters as Assist Trophies other than the ones from the Sonic and Metal Gear series. I agree with you NR, the character really does look good enough to be like a playable character but how many votes did Saki (or any other S&P character) get on the poll? Saki wasn't mentioned in Sakurai's SSBB poll at all. This probably means that Sakurai only showed the most interesting requests in his poll, while he counted the number of requests given to him per character. Saki probably was requested several times, but neither of them were interesting enough in Sakurai's opinion.

Ack. Yet another hack-you-with-sword Assist. The lack of variety so far is a bit unsettling. How can you say that when you have assist trophies like the Devil and Mr. Reseti? Have you forgotten already? Naturally... there are limitations for what assist trophies can do. You have to accept that most of them are going to pop out and attack. They don't all attack exactly the same, but there isn't much else they can do. You should be impressed by the creative ones we already have, and judging by that, we know there are MANY more that will be in the game that do other things besides attack. Plus it also depends on the nature of the character that is assisting. You wouldn't want Saki coming out and doing something stupid and out of character would you? Same for Lyn, Samurai Goroh and Grey Fox.... they all behave like they should. Little Mac and Knuckle Joe too.... So no more of these "lack of creativity" comments please. If you feel they are stale and uncreative, look back at some older updates and just remember that the Brawl team has already done a better job at this idea than most games have.

Ack. Yet another hack-you-with-sword Assist. The lack of variety so far is a bit unsettling. How can you say that when you have assist trophies like the Devil and Mr. Reseti? Have you forgotten already? No, I haven't forgotten the two ridiculously unique ATs we've gotten, but that doesn't make up for six ATs being ridiculously the same. They can not be Assist Trophies, maybe? I love the "all star cast" feeling the Assist Trophy feature is bringing to the table, but it's just a little dissapointing when they're only there for the "hey, look at [x] from [y]!" factor and they don't actually bring anything new in terms of gameplay. I am impressed by Devil and Resetti, and said as much in their updates. I didn't say "ugh, every assist trophy in the game is unoriginal and terrible", I said that there was a lack of variety. And when there are two-to-four "different" Assists while the other eight do more or less the same thing, then that unfortunately holds true. Yes, I get that Lyn, Goroh, Grey Fox, and Saki are all swordfighters... but why do they all need to be Assist Trophies? See my above point about the all-star factor being great but the variety in actual combat is not so much. I didn't even say "Lack of creativity", I said "Lack of variety", there's a difference. I dissaprove of a single factor in an item and you act like I crucified the game.

Please excuse my tone, I didn't mean to come across like I was hollering at you... I really wasn't. I didn't mean to sound like I wanted to start a lecture. I was just saying that they don't seem all that similar to me... they each have their own unique properties and attacks, and that the variety is there.
I didn't mean to sound like I was mad at you for saying that or anything... my actual tone was very different. You didnt crucify the game or anything like that... you didn't say anything out of line or crazy... I just disagreed with it, and reading it again, I probably should have reworded a few things to make it sound less like a lecture and more like a disagreement.

Yes, I get that Lyn, Goroh, Grey Fox, and Saki are all swordfighters... but why do they all need to be Assist Trophies? See my above point about the all-star factor being great but the variety in actual combat is not so much. Because all Lyn, Goroh, Grey Fox, and Saki can do IS wield a sword... Well, Saki can also shoot people. We've already got Link, Meta Knight, Pit, and Ike weilding swords but they have a lot more moves to pull from. Also, I suspect there is something... more to Assist Trophies... This is the second time that Sakurai taunts us with an Assist Trophy that looks like it should be playable... There IS one mode of Special Melee that is as of yet unaccounted for in Brawl... What if in Brawl's version of "Single-Button Mode" you can choose to play many of the Assist Trophies as well as the actual fighters? This would make the Assist Trophies playable, but only for a specific mode.

Though I've never played S&P (I hope to one day), I'm pleased that the game has been represented in Brawl!
Roll on tomorrow (Falcon Friday)!

The terms First-, Second- and Third-Party are not clearly written in stone, and a second-party game can be developed by a third-party company (look at Geist!)
But there are loads of smaller Japanese development teams who work on games when the big publishers can't fill the schedules. This is pretty much how HAL Laboratory started, and it's what Tose and Treasure do as well. In most cases, the small developer doesn't retain a single right over the game, its characters, its programming, etc. All they can do it make the best game they can and hope business keeps flooding in.
And Treasure is the best in the business, putting out consistently excellent and original games. Sin & Punishment was one of "their" games, but Nintendo owns all the rights to it. Simple as that.

So you mean he's a 2nd party character? I don't hope they're going to add some 3rd party AT's from series that aren't represented as a playable character.
Also, he seems good enough. Sure he looks a little bit like the other swordfight-AT's, but they all have a unique touch that makes them different from eachother.

Even Warioworld? That's the exception to the rule ;D But look at Radiant Silvergun (possibly the best shooting game ever), Ikaruga, Gunstar Heroes, Guardian Heroes, Astroboy GBA, Bangai-O, Dynamite Headdy, one YuYu Hakusho game for Genesis/Megadrive and the Bleach ones for GBA... these people have an amazing gaming history.
