Nobody's disputing whether or not Waluigi is popular. There's no doubt he is. But Tingle is more prominent/important/whatever in the Zelda franchise than Waluigi is in the Mario franchise. I find it odd that people educated in both franchises think otherwise. For me it's mostly down to the fact that Tingle appears most frequently as an inconsequential background NPC, while Waluigi appears in every non-major Mario game as a playable character. He may not be in the major ones, but the same is true of Wario, and was true of Luigi until Galaxy. When it comes to Mario Sports games, though, Waluigi gets more spotlight even than Mario himself.

Kinda proves my point. Tingle appeared in Zelda spinoffs, as Waluigi appears in Mario spinoffs. What? Not only does that not make much sense, it wasn't your point. I thought your point was that my argument was invalid because Zelda spinoff games don't exist. Which isn't true. Sorry, I was busy doing something else while I typed and forgot what I had previously said Well, I can't argue with the fact that he's prominent, but he is certainly not important. As Kirbychu has stated, he was only important in one, main Zelda game (Wind Waker). Waluigi is important in most of the games he's featured in, even if they aren't canon...but can anything in the Marioverse really be called canon? Tingle is a character you either love (because he's so funny) or hate (because he's so feminine, and that mole just makes me want to rip his head off!). Same with Waluigi, love (because of his personality and schemes) or hate (because he hasn't yet been featured in a major Mario game and blah blah blah...) I think that's the only real connection between them...how did we get to comparing them anyway?

Let's see... kirbychu was the first one to mention him, and I was understanding really everything until he responded to GenG's comment (that reply kinda confused me). I don't find the point of comparing Waluigi to a "Tingle before he got his own games" now that he has gotten them.
His filling and "symmetry-completing" nature is evident even in the set of colors of the Mario-like characters when comparing it to the set of colors of switches and Koopa shells since Super Mario World (I'm sure many of you have noticed it). I agree with Robert that a Wario & Waluigi RPG game would improve this character's reputation. Now that's a good idea. It would be like expanding the humor from those Mario Power Tennis and Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour FMVs.

Well, in my eyes Tingle and Waluigi are exactly the same character. They're both greedy, weird, annoying and mildly homoerotic. The only real difference between the two is that Waluigi is also a bad guy, which makes him automatically twice as interesting.

Wintastic! That's a badass picture.
Normally I'd suggest that this should go in the Fanart forum, but I was getting tired of the Waluingle piss-fest, so you get a pass. ;D

Are... are people actually arguing that Waluigi is an important character?! Dudes. Major disappointment.
Tingle is not a main character, but at least he appears in many of the main games - and he's even playable in at least 3 titles (Wind Waker, Rosy-Rupeeland, Tingle's Balloon Fight), one of which is a game entirely dedicated to him!
Waluigi has never appeared in a main game. Hell. Daisy's even got him beat on that front!
I am not arguing that one is more suitable, etc. than the other. But stop being retarded, please.

^ He's important in games he's featured in.
He may not be an important character, but he's essential to the plot in games like Power Tennis.

.....Mario's Power Tennis does not have a plot. It has a funny opening video. Waluigi is good comic relief for such things....
Since when did people get wrapped up in the importance of a character in the storyline of a damned Mario sports title?! Jeeeeesus Chriiiiiist!! What monsters have I created!!

Are... are people actually arguing that Waluigi is an important character?! Dudes. Major disappointment. Of course he is. He's Waluigi! I've never seen a new Mario character create a buzz like he did. This thread spiraled out of control, though. Originally I was just posting to balance out all the Waluigi hate that was going on. I wasn't prepared to be asked to justify my reasoning, I thought it was obvious. But now I've had time to ponder, and I think I have a better way of justifying it. WALUIGI > YOU ALL

Waluigi just kicks ass. That's his only reason to be in anything.

What monsters have I created!! Smart, insightful members who have nothing to do but argue useless crap. Somehow, I dodged a bullet.

Indeed, several bullets! I feel charmed and useless at the same time! ;D
i love Waluigi, he's awesome and hilarious and I WISH we saw more of him in more prominent roles (hell, even that Toadette monstrosity turned up in Paper Mario TTYD!) But I would never argue that he's an important character.
