It's a shame that is the way the industry is headed, but it makes sense 100% that retro was just another fad. All that said, and like you suggest, a big ass Nintendo RPG would be rad. Something maybe like NamcoXCapcom? Without the developer crossover aspect? That's what I had been thinking for the longest time, and the reason I thought it should be on the DS was because I was looking for a way to set it apart from other RPGs. There used to be a topic regarding this, and I remember you posting some pretty good ideas? Should we revive it?

Maybe I'm a MG Fangirl but I agree with 8bit on Snake. He was very different to any of the other characters but that made him unique and awesome! Still think Isaac should have got in playable though

@manfrog: Go for it! It's in the Fan Art thread, isn't it?
@everyone else..: Snake and Sonic ARE out of place though; I completely agree with Smashchu on that point. Snake even says he is in the CODEC talks. As far as Sonic is concerned, the poor guy barely gets any screen time in Subspace and basically just "appears" in your game no matter which way you tackle unlocking him. You could say "late addition" as far as the physical world is concerned, but in the realm of the game itself you could say it's due to Sonic being "fashionably late" or "waiting to surprise." I mean, Sonic fits in. Sorta. He's not as realistic sounding or looking as Snake. But he definitely lets you KNOW that he is not a Nintendo character, simply by the fact that he isn't even there for the greater chunk of the game!
As far as Mega Man goes, he only steals powers from robot opponents (and the final boss of Marvel vs. Capcom, but eh). My money's on him appearing in MvC/MvC2 form where he fights like anybody else, fires his buster shots, wields a dragon punch, and can cycle through a select few of his Master Weapons. In such case, no: he's not novel. But it's freakin' Mega Man. C'mon. You say nobody requests him now (which I find hard to believe), but who would've requested Snake? Right after he was announced, BAM! It was a huge surge of applause. Who's to say Mega Man won't be the same? Clearly Inafume (his creator) wanted him in the game. Isn't that how Kojima forced Snake in as well?
Again, I'm not saying the game will become Super Smash 3rd Party. There's no way in hell Nintendo would allow that. But the well is drying up, and we can't deny that. There are tons of characters, a literal clusterwizzle. But look at what they've given us. King Dedede and Meta Knight are not obscure--I'm sorry. They are definitely popular characters. Same goes for Ness and Lucas in Japan, Marth and Ike either in Japan or International, and hobo: even R.O.B. There were plenty of supporters for the NES accessory before Brawl was finally released and, furthermore, the damn thing cameoed in Mario Kart DS. It can't be obscure. Obscure is R.O.B. and Dr. Hector. And wait... what's that? Oh yeah... that's right. Dr. Hector was nowhere to be found in Brawl. I forgot. They left him on the wayside right there with the Duck Hunt Dog and the kid from Time Twist. Another "retro request" completely ignored by the team.
Doesn't anybody remember Sakurai saying he almost didn't include Pit? He was going to pass him over again before he realized people would crucify him if he didn't. He didn't think the sale of Kid Icarus for the GBA (the re-release) were enough to warrant the character returning. That and the fact that the sequel, Myths and Monsters, never hit Japanese shores.
The only worthwhile retro character left that I can see is Little Mac. Takamaru and Sukapon are great, but I've lost all hope for those two when Sakurai went kinda kooky on us with the division of representation in Brawl, even between region-exclusive content. Subspace should've been its own goddamn game. If it weren't included imagine the amount of time and content they could have afforded. Was that Adventure Mode even worth it? At all? It pisses me off more than anything, just on the sheer difficulty in nabbing trophies alone. That's not fun--that's annoying.
I've just gotten really bitter (if you couldn't tell ;p) about Brawl lately. I keep flip-flopping back and forth between "it's so great for what it is" and "it's so terrible for what it isn't." We're all fanboys and fangirls here and we all had our hopes up waaaaay too high. I am the first to admit this. And yes, I am so stoked to finally play as Pit, Diddy, and Olimar in a Smash game. But it never really sunk in. The game just doesn't feel complete to me, and I don't know why. And that's the reason I think a fourth Smash should just screw the Adventure Mode and go full force on characters, which includes adopting a beefier 3rd party roster--even if the guests are from the same two companies as the last game.

All 493 Pokémon in Smash 4
Really, there you go again with this. Are you just going to play the game as it is or complain about it some more on here? If you can't take it, then stop playing it.
The thing is, they just take as many Nintendo things as they can and put them into Smash. Sure, you have your handfuls of more popular properties such as Kirby, Mario, and Zelda, but the others are actually a bit more debatable.
They really can't outdo themselves when it comes to putting up all their franchises. That is exactly like putting all 493 Pokémon in there.

Christ Almighty, do you need excuses just to jump down throats? Let me have my fun in the sun to bitch; I don't think I'm being pretentious to say I'm having second guesses about a game I bought and play. Just because Brawl is absolutely fucking perfect for you doesn't mean it has to be for everybody. Next I suspect you'll be jamming the finger in my face for saying Indiana Jones 4 missed my expectations or that the food I had my favorite Chinese restaurant was subpar. People can have fucking opinions.

I always thought they should've gone down the "represent as many franchises as possible by only including one or two characters per franchise" from the beginning.
Go for what? Make a new topic or bump the old one? The old one was posted by Smashchu in Contemporary Nintendo, and by the time I has just gotten warmed up on the idea train, everybody else started to lose interest and stopped posting in it. I'm afraid it'll remain that way even if I do bring it back to life in some form.

Long [post. Lots of quoting. And about uniqueness, Sonic being really really fast isn't that much different then Capt Falcon being really fast, Sonic's thing is just being really faster. Therefor I don't see what's wrong with Megaman being even more of a long-range specialist then Samus is. Capt. Falcon and Sonic have two different mindsets. Capt. Falcon was hit them fast, hit them hard. He was the fastest character but also had some power to boot. Sonic is just overwhelm them with speed. He has very few moves that kill, and most of them are just his smashes. Your goal is to deal as much damage as you can in hopes of knocking them out. The idea I guess for Megaman would be using his weapons from all the games within all his moves. Would make his crazy, but not sure on a set play style. Still think Isaac should have got in playable though Don't we all But it's freakin' Mega Man. I don't think I ever said no one wante him, but I have argued that his request might not be enough for Sakurai to add him. Of course, I never did like it that Snake got in becuase Kojima and them were friends. Not really cool letting stuff like that get in the way of professionalism. Too most people, those characters are obscured. Meta-Knight has only appeared in a few Kirby games (Dedede was in most, but you had to actually play them). Mother 3 was not a blockbuster in Japan by any means, and Ike was in the Gamecube FE game, a game not many people played (stressing Gamecube) Plus, not everyone had the NES accessory. He has made numerous cameo apperences, but you'd have to know what your looking at (besides Mario Kart DS). And Ness is onlty known becuase he was in Smash (ask anyone and that is the truth). Never heard that actually. Do you have a source? Well, if only becuase Sakurai wont add Takamaru and Sukapon. Sukapon is weird, as Sakurai tried to add him, and then said he'll probably not be in a Smash game. Of course, if there was a larger presence of western support for the characters then they might get in. It's all to try and help us. To give us something we can relate to. Of course, part of the fun of Smash is finding things you don't know. Probably should tell Nintendo. Would make a lot more money for them. Plus, if it adds more content to Brawl, then everyone woyuld jump on it. Actually, it would be a genius market ploy. @man-Frog:Sorry to let you down. I'd be happy to see a Nintendo RPG thread,. The last one went really well. Plus with a lot of new members it might be good to see what ideas we come up with.

Geno wasn't planned for Brawl... If he was, his name would've be in the leftover code along with Roy, Dr. Mario, Mewtwo, Toon Zelda/Sheik, Dixie Kong, and Plusle & Minun.
Let me tell you this. Nintendo will definitely be looking at the sales of Super Mario RPG on the Virtual Console to see if there IS still a large fanbase around the game, that might enjoy seeing and playing as Geno again. Apparently, SOME issue must've been worked out.

Well, it said Toon Sheik. Could've actually been a humorous in-joke on Tetra being essentially 'Toon Sheik'
