And especially now, when Nintendo fans are complaining about games not coming to North America, here's one that was originally thought would never leave Japan. I think if Nintendo fans want to help send a message to NoA, they ought to support this game to show that this sort of localization is worthwhile. But then most of the Nintendo fans wouldn't even buy those games when they come to North America. Why would Nintendo want to repeat history? Remember those Japan-only franchises: Legendary Starfy, Sin & Punishment, Custom Robo, and Ouendan? A lot of fans begged and pleaded with Nintendo to bring those Japan-only games to North America. When Nintendo actually did, the sales weren't that great. Bottom line is: most Nintendo fans only care about Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Kirby, and franchises that had playable characters in the Super Smash Bros. series.

I agree with you in that a lot of noise does not equal a lot of sales. Talk is cheap, which is why it was so significant that Xenoblade/Monado reached the top of Amazon's video game sales chart for three days. Then again, it's not unreasonable to think that many of those pre-orders would be cancelled before a release anyway. And that's why I said that if Solatorobo did well, it would make a stronger statement than Internet petitions and Facebook spamming. There's a difference between sales in theory, and sales in practice.

Is that why you have such an obsession with SSB rosters?

WarioWare yes, F-ZERO considerably less so.

As far as I'm concerned, the popularity that WarioWare used to have years ago has apparently faded as of late.

Might that be because there haven't been any new WarioWare GAMES as of late?

I'm surprised the 3DS wasn't launched with a WarioWare 3D. With the Wii and DS, WarioWare was the perfect game to showcase exactly what the console is capable of gameplay-wise. But maybe there just aren't many new things they could do with 3D.

Gyroscope and AR microgames could also do it for a 3DS installment.

(roughly) 5 second long AR games? Now that would be a real challenge to deisgn for. (Twisted pretty much got the gyro controls down) But I assume the dev team behind WW is still working/finishing up on Rhythm Heaven Wii.
In actual game announcement news. Coming to the DS is Aliens: Infestation! . . . . . . And it's made by WayForward! I started to think this company derserves its own thread. Info/preview!Infestation isn't shy about wearing its Metroid influence on its sleeve, dropping the player's Marine squad in an open, non-linear world divided up by barriers that can be overcome through exploration. Doors are fused shut and require a welding torch to be opened again. Key cards lock off high-security areas. Jets of steam from broken pipes prevent access to some rooms; you can turn off the steam by adjusting a valve, but first you'll need to find the wrench, which turns out to be blocked away by a crate too heavy to move bare-handed (so you'd probably better find that power loader, eh?).
The player can control a squad of up to 19 marines, and if one is lost, he or she is gone forever. When all 19 are gone, there are no more continues.
Losing to a xenomorph isn't always instant death, mind you; sometimes your current marine will be captured and cocooned, but they can be rescued by comrades. Some captured humans will be selected as hosts for facehuggers, though, and at that point that marine is effectively dead (even if it's a matter of time before they realize it).
And there's fan service. Oh, so much fan service. From welding the doors open (just like Vasquez did it) to the grenades you can launch, Infestation feels like a labor of love. There are slated to be other even nerdier touchstones as well, including an APC mini-game and even cameos by new alien versions(Yes, that is a chest burster in the left image)

Hm, didn't catch the Metroid influence before...hm. Sounds interesting. And for the original DS? That system is going out with a bigger bang than I expected it to.

So, the guys who made Contra 4 are making an actual Aliens game, and it plays like a Metroidvania? You know I'll be keeping my eye on this one!
Between this and Solatorobo, I admit that I'm surprised (and happy) that I have DS games to look forward to!
Then again, with the way things are going for the 3DS, maybe I shouldn't be.

So, it looks like Atari's Centipede: Infestation is also being developed by WayForward. That's right. WayForward is developing both Aliens: Infestation and Centipede: Infestation. Can't wait for Shantae: Infestation! Trailer: Looks like an arena shooter. Might make a decent budget title.
