I still haven't played River City Girls yet, but River City Girls 2 was announced. Coming in 2022. More interestingly, perhaps, is that the original Shin Nekketsu Koha: Kunio-tachi no Banka for the Super Famicom is being localized under the name River City Girls Zero. Coming later this year to Switch, with other platforms to follow. From WayForward's news section: River City Girls Zero, meanwhile, lets you experience the first time that Misako and Kyoko teamed up with Kunio and Riki to take to the streets in hard-hitting, curb-stomping action. While the graphics, music, and gameplay all remain true to the classic 16-bit Super Famicom release, this version marks the first time the 1994 game will be localized for the West. A new opening cinematic, new manga cutscenes, and new theme song by River City Girls composer Megan McDuffee have been added as well. Set out solo or team up with a friend in local co-op and discover how the River City Girls story began! Intriguing.

ININ Games has announced the Wonder Boy Collection for Switch and PS4. It includes the original Wonder Boy, Wonder Boy in Monster Land, Wonder Boy in Monster World, and Monster World IV. Interestingly, the trailer shows the Sega Master System versions of Wonder Boy and WB in Monster Land, but the official site shows screenshots of the arcade versions. Maybe it includes both? Speaking of which, this collections seems a little redundant, and at the same time, incomplete. Monster Land is already available as the excellent Sega Ages version (which includes more options and modes). There are remakes of the original Wonder Boy and Monster World IV available (and the physical release of Asha in Monster World includes the original version). Also, it's missing Monster Lair, which is a game I wish was included. At the same time, it does include WB in Monster World, which has not been available since the Wii Virtual Console, and most people would probably prefer the original Wonder Boy to the janky remake. Also, not everyone would've bought a physical copy of Asha in Monster World, so it's nice that the original version will be available in another way.

Two things caught my attention lately: MLB The Show 22 β Notable for being the first Nintendo Switch game made directly by a studio under Sony Interactive Entertainment. This isn't the first time PlayStation properties have appeared on the system, but this is the first actual SIE game on Switch. Nippon Ichi Software title teased on their website. Around the same time, early information from the Famitsu magazine suggests that this is for Void Terrarium 2 (which fits the teaser site thematically), with a story of Toriko starting to decay (which also means the "1" ending in the original is canon). It's set to officially reveal in a few hours.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection was announced during Sony's State of Play a couple of days ago, but it's coming to all platforms. Trailer: Press releaseContains all of Konami's older TMNT games, including both arcades games, four NES games, two SNES games, two Genesis/Mega Drive games, and three Game Boy games, plus both Western and Japanese version where available. Online multiplayer is also available, but only for four titles (the two arcade games, Hyperstone Heist, and the SNES version of Tournament Fighters). It's being developed by Digital Eclipse, who also worked on the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection, Mega Man Legacy Collection, Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, Disney Afternoon Collection, and others. They seem more willing to revive old licensed games than most companies. I loved a lot of these games when I was young, so this is something for me to consider. The original arcade game, in particular, left a big impression on me and was one of my all-time favorite arcade games. It's strange, though, that only four games include online multiplayer.

So, you know I'm a fan of Cadence of Hyrule, as well as the original game it was a crossover with, Crypt of the NecroDancer.
A new spin-off game has been announced called Rift of the NecroDancer, and it appears to be more like a traditional rhythm game without the roguelike elements. The gameplay they've shown so far seems to be inspired by games like Guitar Hero, Punch-out!! and Rhythm Heaven.
Unfortunately, as of now, the game is only confirmed for Steam, with console releases TBD. Still, I think this looks really cool, and I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Some former Irem/SNK devs have been joining Twitter lately, and yesterday, they announced that they were collaborating together on a new indie game. It's a side-scrolling run-and-gun tentatively called "Black Finger Jet," and it will mix 2D pixel art with 3D graphics. No gameplay has been revealed, but it's implied that it will be similar to Metal Slug. They're currently looking to expand their team. Official site.Trailer: Currently only announced for Steam with other platforms being considered. I wonder if they're planning a Kickstarter.

Here's an alpha version teaser for Black Finger Jet. This is more Metal Slug-like than even I expected.

Sega has announced a new Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Crazy Taxi, "and more."
No platforms or other details were confirmed.
New Shinobi looks good. The graphics look like they were done by Lizardcube (Streets of Rage 4, Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap remake).
I like that Sega is bringing back more legacy series, but I feel skeptical.
