Well, just done a search on Japanese Google for Otsusan, and Otsusan Nintendo, and mix-and-matched Hiragana and Katakana, but found nothing. So I'm guessing that it's NOT a small-time Nintendo character... or the name is wrong.

From other sources, the Otsusan is the character from NES Golf. it may be they gave it a name. (Was Mario the character for Golf?)

Mario was not. That's NES Open Tournament Golf and two other Golf games Japan only.
Moto once compared Mii's to the little 8-bit faceless characters so I'd say that's your closest bet until they made the golfer a character here.

EDIT: ....is this Star Tropics 3? That just hit me, guys. I'm not sure where you're coming from with that one. He has a yo-yo, he's on an island, obscure Nintendo characters, teen becomes a hero... Following here?

Following here? *Yo-yo - In StarTropics *Island - In StarTropics but also in other games (some areas of Pliotwings, Super Mario Sunshine). *Teen becomes a hero - Same as above (not with the same games though). *Lots of obscure Nintendo characters - That's didn't happen in StarTropics and only went so far as the Tetris pieces and the NP Nester reference. Also the main character's name is Nick not Mike Jones and Nick is the alter-ego of Captain Rainbow going to an island where anyones dreams come real because his Captain Rainbow TV is getting low ratings. It's not StarTropics 3 at this point in time, thought I would love to be pleasantly surprised that it is.

ROB also appeared in StarTropics, and he's pretty obscure.

Obscure Nintendo characters is a good thing. Take out Captain Frills and I would be all over this. Why is something with a Luigi avatar adverse to flamboyant gayness? Captain Rainbow makes this game, I don't give a shit about Nintendo's z-listers being paraded around.

New info:
- Nick loves ‘loud’ clothing - Captain Rainbow uses a yo-yo in his finishing move - Captain Rainbow is a TV show mascot, and kids aren’t tuning into the program. - Nick travels to Mimin Island, a place where dreams are said to come true - Instead of Nick’s dreams being granted, Captain Rainbow must grant the wishes of other island inhabitants - Search the island for people to help - The island (Mimin) is filled with classic Nintendo characters in-need of help (Birdo, NES Golf character, and many more) - Nick is helped by Hikari, from the Japan-only adventure game Shin Onigashima
Back to the topic at hand, I predict a Mario Party 9 or DS 2. Also we will finally get to know is Animal Crossing is a MMO or not and if the next Kid Icarus or Pikmin exist or they continue being a two game franchise. I would also love to see some other Mario spinoff, but something good and for the love of everything sacred the confirmation that H.A.M.M.E.R. returns from the grave. Hmm... as a long shots how about Metroid Dread, the GC Kirby game and longer would be a new Star Fox.

It was meant to be kind of funny and "hey, that'd be cool..." I didn't actually MEAN I thought it was StarTropics 3. Yeesh, guys. Nobody's THAT desperate and dense. And yes, back on topic: we will see at least SOMETHING from the Wii Zelda. Even just a nod or a mention.

Captain Rainbow makes this game, I don't give a hobo about Nintendo's z-listers being paraded around. I still don't know where the Luigi gay jokes come from. I've said it before, his character is a once-tolerant second fiddle who's slowly losing it. I have NEVER seen anything with Luigi being frilly or suggestive. Unless we want to look too far into Prince Peasley which is all fan-made, and the Star Gate in M&L2 which I still think is just a joke on Luigi being an embarassing person. Honestly, I don't mind gay or suggestive characters. Tingle's one of my favorite Zelda characters and a good two or three villains in MGS are bisexual and clever. But when it's a superhero who focuses on rainbows? That's weird even when SKIP is doing it. R.O.B. was not in Startropics anymore than Spyborg being R.O.B. Just a design cameo, NAV-COM is way different. On-topic, I'm hoping for a DK game to be revealed, and maybe even Metroid. www.metroidprime3.com seems to suggest something cause it's been blank for a few weeks now.

I should point out that Retro Studios also had a site redesign just before the Metroid sites had their changes/infomation removed, happen to them.

I mentioned this way back a while ago, but Retro Studios is taking a breather from the Metroid franchise. And while a new Metroid title isn't completely out of the question, I believe "Metroid Dread" in particular is dead in the water. I don't see why people are so obsessed over receiving one video game based on its title alone; all the fanwanking I've heard over Metroid Dread and Super Mario 128 is silly as can be. All we know about these "games" is what they were called, and even then Super Mario 128 wound up just being a tech demo. I'd like to believe Super Marios Sunshine and Galaxy made up for that, in any case.
Really, though, of all the titles I see y'all throwing out, only Animal Crossing Wii feels like it's actually going to happen; it's a major Nintendo franchise that also happens to be aimed at their precious Casual Gamer market. And no, it's not going to be an MMO; you're still going to need fifty stupid friend codes to connect with somebody.
Nintendo's E3 is going to suck this year
