Twilight Princess and Smash Bros both predate Nintendo's new 'play cards super close to your chest, show them at the very last minute' strategy. Kirby doesn't count as it was coming out that year.
Look more at titles announced at E3 07 and beyond - the longest amount of time from showing a game to it being released was probably Mario Kart, 10 months later (though even that wasn't shown a second time until a few months before launch).
I'd expect Nintendo to show off their really big titles with a bit more hype time, but not alot. Its Nintendo's new strategy. And I quite like it, to be honest (gives you less time to build ridiculous expectations the game will never deliver).

She says "You know us" though, as if this is how Nintendo's always operated. I was simply taking issue with that. As you say, I DO know them, and I know that any change in announcement policy must be recent, because they don't usually operate that way.
And that Kirby game wasn't due that year. It was announced in 2004, and wasn't "canned" until after the release of the Wii (it was suggested it would be ported to the Wii anyway).
