How can you be so sure?

Alright, let me spell it out. Bumblebee is a Transformers character. The original G1 (1984) version of Bumblebee was one of many toys rebranded from a previous line. In this case it was the Microchange line, which featured Micromen and transforming Penny Racers-sized cars. Flip's inference came from the fact that Sakurai used Micromen to design the character's poses and movements, which possibly means he is aware of the Transformers rebranding of the toys and thusly a Transformers fan altogether. With this in mind, it can stand to reason that Sakurai based ROB's black and yellow costume off the most recent iteration of Bumblebee (from the 2007 live action movie) if he is in fact a long time follower of the Transformers franchise. Geez...maybe I'm going overboard with this...

Black and yellow yes, but only the 2007 movie version and recent Transformers Animated versions have black stripes like the ROB costume.

It could be all just a coincidence, and Sakurai may not know about Bumblebee.

I have to concur with Teev. Man-Frog, I grimaced when reading your explanation, but I cheered for you when you reached the end and realised the mad, mad road you had taken

I was merely explaining what the whole thing meant to The Game Knubbe up there.
I honestly didn't think the whole Transformers-Microman connection had any merit. If Sakurai did decide to base the colors off Bumblebee, then I highly doubt the stuff I said before is the real reason.

Cause R.O.B. is so much like Bumblebee?
Why BUMBLEBEE, first off? If we did get some Transformers references you know it'd be Prime or Megatron. It's like getting a Goofy reference but no Mickey. This is a one time thing, they'd have picked the most recognizable. Not like Sakurai's going "hmmmmm, how can I hide absolutely obscure colors into this game?" He wants fans to notice and maybe non-fans to notice. Not people who have to go grasping at ridiculous theories.

Hehe. Thanks Fry. Is it safe to assume my position as this board's resident Transformers expert?

Is it safe to assume my position as this board's resident Transformers expert? It sure seems like it, you've already talked enough of transformers.

Sorry to double post, but it bumps the topic regardless... kotaku.com/359758/liveblogging-sakurais-super-smash-bros-brawl-design-talkFound the Character Design talk. "How do you convey poses to animators? Sakurai used a Microman poseable action figure. Using these, he snapped photos of many of the poses that would ultimately become final animations. It's clear, even from these photos, whose animations these are, with Pit and Zero Suit Samus standing out. He compares his Microman photos against the final version of Wario's moves. They look nearly identical. The same is true for Sonic's moves."
