The US-only SNES controller had six buttons. Four of them are purple... but two buttons are dark purple while the other two buttons are light purple. The SNES console itself was all gray, yes... with dark purple buttons (Power and Reset). Wouldn't that make sense?

XBox and PS? LOL Spud, you hilarious!
The Famicom controller was yellow and black? I thought what someone said about Color TV Game... that kinda makes sense to me.

I have to say, the pink ROB looks nothing like the SNES, but he also doesn't look at all like Sukapon.
My two cents.
The SNES buttons on the other hand? Definitely.

I think we're getting far too nitpicky with the colors. My immediate thinking when I saw purple ROB was SNES, and I know I'm not alone in that sort of reaction. Who cares that he's "more pink tint" or "not purple enough" or whatever the hell else we're saying? They bothered to include the gray NES ROB, so clearly they are aware of the US colorizations for their consoles. Furthermore, wouldn't a rainbow "green, blue, yellow, red" ROB be uber-gay?
One of the guys I play with calls Gold ROB "Game and ROB," because he's gold like the Game and Watch stage in Brawl/Melee. Possibility?
Green is clearly just meant to be some sort military theme, and he needed green anyways. I assume that blue might be along those same lines.

The green ROB is green because a subset of enemy ROBs in tSsE are also green.

Thank you for your post, Flip! That's exactly my thoughts on the subject.

I don't know about you but how's Sakurai anti-America? Why would Sakurai NOT use US-only sources for alternate colors, especially R.O.B. and Luigi? Luigi's blue colors looks exactly like in the Mario Bros. NES box art. There's no denying that. Why are we doubting Sakurai would use anything US-only in the game? Woah! You're right! That really badly drawn American NES boxart IS EXACTLY THE SAME as Luigi's blue colour scheme! No differences at all!! Woah! I'm sorry I doubted this brilliant idea! I mean... my immediate thought was it was a really stupid idea, considering he's had the colour scheme since SSB64 yet it's not mentioned on the Dojo, and that's not even Luigi on the NES Mario Bros. boxart. But hey! Why WOULDN'T Sakurai base a character's colour scheme on a piece of boxart he's probably never seen in his life!?! What was I thinking!?! This is possibly the most stupid thing I have ever heard come out of your mouth. Yes, this beats the above. Maybe it's because he's ashamed.

ROB needed a green costume. and they needed another ROB enemy for SSE. I don't see how that's not a cameo in and of itself. In addition, I do think that SNES ROB is just that; a SNES ROB.
The other two I feel like we're missing something though. Especially on the blue one...

XBox and PS? LOL Spud, you hilarious! The Famicom controller was yellow and black? Gold and black so it matches better then the color tv game. We've got the dual shades. Rob has more saturation But still if you go with gold rob he has more saturation than the Famicom controller as well.

@fryguy64 OBJECTION!Sukapon is not all pink. He has a darker purple navel. this is based on Nintendo's only other notable robot character Sukapon from Joy Mech Fight, who was predominantly pink with darker pink bits. © 2007-2008 Fryguy64

Well OK... ROB is pink and darker pink too.
And before anyone points out that my Sukapon fanart doesn't match the original Sukapon sprite colours - he still has a darker pink navel (and appears with those circles on his head - albeit white and blue - on the mode select screen) so shush.

To be 100% all inclusive and exahustive in research (remember, I looked up all of these for a previous topic), here's F-Zero GX Falcon, whom I comepletly forgot till now. GX FalconIt has orange arm guards, yellow gloves, white shoulder pads, yellow collar (interesting because it's predated by Melee's Falcon having one.) and is a darker blue color that could be the game's style. Brawl's design doesn't look as purple to me as past games. He also has a yellow scarf. That's only notable because GX was the first game I noticed that in.. X FalconHe has red instead of orange armguards, darker yellow gloves, white shoulder pad, a red collar and is a lighter blue. After comparing this two with Falcon's alts, IMO, his standard alt is based on his current design from GX. It's a perfect match on this front, and there is enough of a difference between X and GX to be noted in the OP. His blue costume has the yellow shoulder pads of the SF and the red arm guards & gloves of the F-Zero X. In addition, it's a lighter blue, which none of the main SSB costumes have been. Does anyone know why Falcon's regular costumes have usually been purple? Lastly, he has a red collar, which previous light blue costumes didn't have. Okay, that's the last of that. What started out as a post telling of me telling Fry about the GX connection turned to this...
