Hmmm... I don't know... Looks kinda boring. He doesn't get into specifically what your actually going to do in the game. Not a whole lot going on besides walking and talking to people, which is always good to do in between various points in a game, but can you make a whole game based around that alone? I'm sure you could. But besides the unbelievable and amazing fact he did this all by himself, the concept has shown nothing for me.
Also the character sprites look like edits from an RPG maker game. I should know, I'm a sprite artist myself.
Sorry to come off pessimistic, and while this guys got sorta the same dream I have (so I know where he's coming from), he seems to lack the dream of an original gameplay idea with his vision. God I must sound like a dick...
Didn't he barricade himself in his own home for a minimum of 100 days because Nintendo wouldn't give him some DS design kit for free or some shit?
What a loon.
I cannot leave this viridian room. The door is locked and barricaded from the outside. I am sleeping behind the camera, and yes- I've got a shower. Food is delivered once a week by a friend. I have no internet access, television, or game consoles besides those I am developing on. I can receive and send email on my Android G1, so I can get Nintendo's reply and update my site with tether. The LED counter will be incremented once a day, and sometimes it will display hints and secret messages.
This is my 100 day protest to Nintendo!
All I need is for them to allow me to purchase a DVD with the software I need to finish!
I met with Nintendo in February- almost a YEAR ago- to ask to purchase the SDK. I did teleconferencing. I flew to GDC and had a face-to-face meeting. I asked the WarioWorld division, and they sent me to marketing. I talked to marketing, and they said apply with WarioWorld division! The agreement on the application states I will receive a decision in 6-8 weeks. It has been 19 weeks! I fulfill all the requirements- I'm a financially stable registered company with a FEIN working from a commercial address. When Nintendo decides to approve my developer license application I will end my protest.
I worked on this project for five years because I wanted to make a "Nintendo game." I'm not about to give up just because some stubborn intern or mid-level marketing exec at NOA is deleting my emails! I want an answer, and I want to hear it from the top. Will themen of talent at Nintendo- those with passion and ideas of their own- dismiss mine?
I REALLY WANT TO FINISH THIS GAME!
Though he's been in the room for most of the past five years. That really doesn't help his protest any.
There is nobody like me. I have created the entire game, start to finish. I am far better than Miyamoto, Itoi, Kojima, Carmack, and Wright COMBINED. NONE of these "designers" could create the entire thing if their lives depended on it! They rely on the assistance of others- and take all the credit. They don't even deserve their titles! I have bested them all by far.
"bob's game" is a game by ONE PERSON, and it's one of the GREATEST GAMES EVER MADE- if not THE BEST. I stand alone on a mountain no other has even dared to climb. I have swam across the ocean only cruise ships could cross. I have walked through the desert of no return. I have stepped in the footprints of none, a path never taken. I have MADE HISTORY, and history cannot be undone. It's too late, Nintendo.
No man has ever accomplished what I have accomplished at 25 years old- it's no wonder you fear accepting this truth! My work has humiliated your teams of engineers. One young man- singlehandedly- has made their lifetime of work seem like child's play. How can they possibly compete with such overwhelming skill? It's not even fair, is it? That's too bad, Nintendo. I'm real, and I'm here. You can't ignore me forever. I AM RIGHT, AND IT WILL WORK.
I am the GREATEST GAME DEVELOPER THAT EVER LIVED. I am a GENIUS, and I will be around for the next 40 years- eating away at your company until it exists no longer. I will find way after way to slowly destroy your bottom line, and your business will fail. The name NINTENDO will be forgotten, a discarded husk like so many others. "bob's game" will live on FOREVER.
THOSE WHO DOUBT ME- YOU WILL BE PROVEN WRONG. IN TIME THE TRUTH WILL PREVAIL. PREPARE TO EAT YOUR WORDS.
YES, I AM COMPLETELY SERIOUS!
WHO'S TAKING NAMES NOW, REGGIE?!

Nester the Lark: Speaking of the song "Reincarnation," perhaps it might have sounded something like this if the game had gotten an English dub.

nocturnal YL: According to Nintendo's IR calendar, they're going to release their financial information up to December 2020 on 1 Feb. Switch sales (68.30 mil at Sep 2020) may very well surpass that of the 3DS (75.94 mil), but how will it compare to the GBA (81.51 mil)?
Jan 31, 2021 12:10:02 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: It's closer to the GBA sales than I thought. Switch hardware sales up to December 2020 is 79.87 mil, while I expected about 78 mil.

nocturnal YL: Also, while they stopped counting 3DS and Wii U hardware sales, software went up from 385.12 mil to 385.85 mil and 103.27 mil to 103.31 mil. Switch software sales went from 456.49 mil to 532.34 mil, surpassing that of NES and Game Boy.

nocturnal YL: So now that I have a capture device, I've been looking at my games and tried to figure out the resolution and frame rate they run at. Trials Rising is 540p30, Project DIVA Mega Mix has the UI at 720p60 and the simpler, single-singer PVs run at 540p60…?
Feb 6, 2021 11:42:34 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: All the Atelier games I've seen so far (Arland 1-4) run at 1080p30, which is a bit surprising as I expected a lower resolution for Lulua. Void Terrarium and Puyo Puyo Tetris 1 and 2 all run at 1080p60. PPT1 also ran at 1080p60 on Wii U, so no surprise.
Feb 6, 2021 11:45:41 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: ↑ In Atelier Lulua, the system UI and even some parts with 3D models (like the synthesis screen) run at full 1080p at 60 fps. That's a huge leap from the previous two games in the series. World map runs at 30 fps though, despite not being intensive.
Feb 8, 2021 11:13:44 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: Rune Factory 4 Special runs at 720p60. Fire Emblem Three Houses is a weird case; it looks like 900p30 to me, but because of the way the edge of the models are drawn, the graphics end up looking very ugly.

Nester the Lark: I've been doing the same thing I do every time I consider getting Smash Ultimate: playing Smash for Wii U. It turns out there are still plenty of people playing it online. Makes me curious about Splatoon 1.
Feb 20, 2021 10:08:42 GMT -5
Nester the Lark: The online also worked better than I remember. Maybe because there are fewer people...?

Nester the Lark: My skill curve in Smash Bros seems to be the opposite of other games: the more I play, the worse I get.

Nester the Lark: TIL I had not yet unlocked all the stages in Smash for Wii U. Just unlocked the last one today, six years after getting the game.
