My theory even fits the grandfather problem. I swear, my bullshitting is starting to make a loooooot of sense.

Nintendo of Europe's DKC website has this explanation why Diddy wears no pants:

Actually, I think DK jr grew up and be came sophisticated after that mario kart GP and got a tie like Masamune said, and I also think that either the green yoshi is the same from yoshi's Island or isn't and the one from yoshi's island is giant, can speak, roams on a roof, and gives you a hundred 1-ups before jumping into a waterfall.

As far as I can tell, the current Yoshi is not the same as the one from Yoshi's Story. He's actually his son, and started out as the protagonist of Yoshi's Island. I picked this up from the intro to YS: All the eight Yoshies from YI were driven into depression after Baby Bowser stole the Super Happy Tree, so their offspring hatched out of their eggs and went to go get the tree back. Since Baby Mario was born in the game before this, it shouldn't be unusual to assume that the green Baby Yoshi from this game is the same one that Mario met later in SMW.

Simplify that?
Are you saying it's YS yoshi-> YI yoshi->SMW Yoshi?

No, I'm saying that Current/SMW Yoshi = YS Yoshi, and that he's the son of YI Yoshi.

No, I'm saying that Current/SMW Yoshi = YS Yoshi, and that he's the son of YI Yoshi. The ending of Yoshi's Island 2 is worth noting. It depicts the last of the special so-called "Star Children" as being a green Yoshi.

Indeed, I was going to bring that up. Yoshi's Island DS shows a green Yoshi being born who holds the power of the stars. He must be our current Yoshi.
If Yoshi's Island DS taught me anything, it's that the current heroes we always see in the games were destined for greatness. Which is why Baby DK can't be Cranky, Cranky hasn't done anything great.
I go by the Mario Party 1 rule, they are the "Super Stars".

Baby DK looked nothing like DK. Jr. That could either mean DK Jr. could be his father or Nintendo just wanted him to look more like the current DK. The latter being the more likely.

Baby DK looks pretty much the same as DK Jr. Obviously Baby DK's design would be based on the current (super) DK, but they all look basically the same anyway. Plus if you're subscribing to the theory the giant, fat arcade DK can become the frail, thin, wrinkly, bearded Cranky, I'm sure you can handle this: growing up to look like this: EDIT: Wow, the more I look, the more they look exactly the fucking same, aside from the black ring around the eyes.

Looks like baby DK's been playing with the mascara again. Either that or someones been playing practical jokes involving a pair of binoculars.
