Does Yogurt apear in more than one game? he seems more like a Mr. saturn like character (mascot of the series but not a figther)
P.D. Im growing to the idea of Arle+Carbuncle, they make some nice Sega counterparts to Nintendo Pokemon trainer.

How about Sakura Shinguji from the Sakura Wars (Taisen) fame. Not much known outside japan, but the old Anime is really popular here so people could recognize her. (and needs moar females, of course)
Also another good sugestion is Vectorman. Probably the only game from Genesis that I completed, plus he looks cool. Kinda reminds me to Sukapon.
And also let's keep in mind the legendary Segata Sanshiro. He might now be a game character, but he's an japanese iconic hero who could represent the forgotten Sega Saturn console. However, he could conflict with Akira Yuki since both are judo fighters.
Those are my picks, sorry if they are not that good...

I think there should be roughly analogous characters on each side to make them stand out. This can be tricky for some, as Nintendo's not exactly known for its fighting games, and Sega doesn't do some of the crazy shit Nintendo does. I won't be doing that here, as that would severely limit my character choices. I also think 6 vs. 6 is too small a list to choose from. I'm not going to waste my choice on obvious characters now. But anyway, my selection! (Proposed storyline for this selection - they're all fighting for a chance to return to the mainstream). Sega - Alex KiddA little prince from the Planet Aries who can deal out damage with the Shellcore technique he learned in Radaxian. He can also battle with his Janken moves (rock, paper, scissors) to dish out different damage based on chance. Sega - RistarThe Star Goddess created Ristar to grant the wishes of the Planet Neer. He is a little star with stretchy limbs, making him agile and good at evasion and attacking from long-distances. Sega - VectormanThe only Orbot to escape the dictatorship of Warhead. Armed with long distance weaponry and the ability to transform into bombs and drills, Vectorman is ready to return. Sega - Toejam & EarlTwo aliens from the planet Funkotron. T.J. is the brains and Earl is the brawn, and they work together to spread the funk. Earl uses T.J. as a weapon, and they both use dance moves to attack. Sega - Epsilon Eagle (Alien Soldier)A genetically engineered parasitic life form who can co-exist in the bodies of animals and machines. Once a gang leader, he merged with a young boy causing an internal conflict of evil and good. Armed to the teeth with heavy weaponry and deadly rush attacks. Sega - Joe Musashi (Shinobi)An honourable ninja, who single-handedly brought down the Neo Zeed gang. His versatile weaponry includes shurikens, the Ninjato sword, and the Ninjitsu techniques of Ikazuchi, Fushin, Kariu and Mijin. Nintendo - Takamaru (Murasame's Mysterious Castle)Once a trainee samurai, Takamaru defeated the demon Murasame before vanishing into obscurity. He attacks with a sword, fireballs and lightning, and can veil himself to disappear into the shadows. Nintendo - Jill & Drill DozerThe rough and ready gang leader of the Red Dozers, Jill has ridden the Drill Dozer since birth. The Dozer allows her to dish out damage with the massive drill on the front. Nintendo - Saki (Sin & Punishment)A former member of the Savior Group who was infected and began to transform into a Ruffian. His gunsword is extremely powerful and allows for melee fighting, and his power and speed have been enhanced by his transformation. Nintendo - Lip (Panel de Pon)The fairy of flowers, and the only fairy to escape the rule of Thanatos thanks to her magic stick. Lip uses the stick in plant-based attacks, and can also magically create blocks to damage her opponents. She is not particularly strong. Nintendo - Andy (Advance Wars)A Commanding Officer of the Orange Star Army. Andy is a master of engineering, and is often seen with two industrial sized spanners that he uses to attack. His smart-alec attitude can get him into trouble. Nintendo - Sukapon (Joy Mech Fight)A robot created by Dr. Little Eamon and Dr. Ivan Walnut, who was the only good robot to remain after Dr. Walnut went insane. Sukapon's spinning attacks, head-throw moves and wrestling grapples make him good at both short- and long-range attacks.

I'm so happy SOMEBODY remembered Shinobi Also... Vyse from Skies of Arcadia would be sick. He would have dual sabers and be a nice analogue to the likes of Pit, maybe Marth or Ike. He could use attacks like Pirate's Wrath and maybe summon his ship for a Final Smash-like attack. That... would be so awesome.

Vyse would indeed make a cool character, for some of these reasons and more. He has a huge potential movelist, with magic and special moves to pull from, and is a cool design as well. I support this character choice wholeheartingly (as I mentioned before, I love Skies).

I'm glad you liked the list I could so easily have produced a full 20 vs. 20 list for this (and you might have seen some unforgotten characters in there as well!) SoA and JSR were in the lineup, as was Phantasy Star... but alas the rules are the rules!

Fry, you get super extra bonus love from me for being the only person to remember Toejam & Earl.
Y'know who else nobody seems to have mentioned (unless I missed it)!? Opa-Opa. Come on, guys! Opa-Opa is great!

SHINOBI, thats another must! also some Sakura wars representation (probably Sakura on its mech, that way it would make an interesting character). Im a HUUUUUGE fan of Toe Jam and Earl I downloaded both games on the virtual console and almost bought a Xbox for their third game. I would probably lump them as one character, since Two characters for a Minor Franchise seems weird , but you cant use Toejam without Earl. Opa-opa is another great sugestion, it got legs, so I can picture it on a figthing game. I would refrain from adding one game wonders (like Ristar, Vise or Takamaru) till we have covered the escentials. Also If we considered Saki from Sin and Punishment, may we should consider red and Blue from Gunstar heroes, Two games in the series and Sega still seems to have the copyright ) they published it on the Virtual Console.

All these obscure Sega characters, but yet no love for Ryo Hazuki? I'm severely disappointed in you guys. It's bad enough that Sega ignores him. And as you can see, poor Ryo needs the love.

Clearly we all just want to make a massive Sega only Smash Bros. here, guys. Let's just go for it and do it up EDIT: Also, why is everybody knocking adding extra Sonic characters? If anything, his series needs to be on par with Mario's. Four, maybe EIGHT, characters. Lessee... Sonic, obviously. Tails, as the "Peach" or something to that effect. Shadow, as the "Luigi" Robotnik (fuck Eggman), as the Bowser (he could be in a mech suit) And then I figure Amy and Knuckles? That's not a bad lineup for Sonic characters. I know it has lamewad Shadow, but it's a logical addition considering how these types of games operate. Plus it matches decently enough with the Mario franchise... Sonic-Mario Tails-Peach Shadow-Luigi Robotnik-Bowser Knuckles-Wario Amy-Yoshi Perfect! Also, wouldn't Flicky make more sense as an Assist? And for that matter, so would characters like Opa-Opa--who are "not suitable for fighting" or whatever the crape excuse Sakurai gave was.

Ecco would have to be an Assist as well. Lately I've been looking up games made by Sega, but I'm having difficulty telling which ones would be suitable for a crossover title, given that some of them were published by Sega but not developed by them, and the exact ties these developers have with Sega is a bit fuzzy to me.

Opa-opa could Fight, Ecco Im not so sure. I think the reason we havent mentioned more Sonic Characters, its because we want to give the lessed loved series some spotlight, also, until now, Mario is the only Mario character in the roster, If there is place in the roster for Luigi, I think Tails is a must (altough if Sega were really doing this they would put Shadow instead of Tails). I think Mario vs Sonic did the couterparts of both series quite well.
The Hero Mario/Sonic the best friend Yoshi/Tails The Palet swap Luigi/Shadow The girlfriend Peach/Amy The Treasure Hunter Wario/Knukcles the Bad Guy Bowser/Eggman

I think Nack would be a better Wario analogue. Both have played the villain role.
