Who's gonna be the analog for the Virtua Fighter characters? Nintendo doesn't even have a fighting series outside of Smash Bros. which is A) Unconventional as far as fighters go and B) Already a crossover in itself, and Joy Mecha Fight which is legally dead. Tabuu. Problem solved.

The rival character thing its just an idea, Capcom is doing it in Tatsunoko Vs Capcom so I decided to give it a try (and thats also the reason of so many strange choices and absences in TvsC) If many of you support this, we can go this way, but this will lead to many obscure franchises being bumped up to fill rivalries and some popular choices being absent because there is no one from the other company to pair them. Here are some more ideas I had during the evening: Akira (virtua fighter) Vs Dude (Urban Champion) Pit Vs Nights EBA Vs Ulala Ness Vs Wonderboy Pokémon trainer (Pikachu included) Vs Mushiking ( www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/anime/mushiking/ ) Luigi Vs Tails

Joy Mech Fight isn't legally dead. Its fan base is pretty high. If it wasn't popular, it wouldn't of been released for the Virtual Console.

I don't know if anyone put AiAi from the Super Monkey Ball games... Or would having AiAi and Amigo both in it be too many monkeys?
Who would Amigo be paired up with anyway? Or AiAi?

Amigo would be paired up with a music game-based Nintendo character, of which there are few, and those few aren't popular.
AiAi... Hmm... I don't know. Super Monkey Ball is a very unique game. I'd have to say a puzzle based character, but I'm not sure.

Amigo would be paired up with a music game-based Nintendo character, of which there are few, and those few aren't popular. Yeah, there aren't any music game characters to choose from. Except the Ouendan/EBA/Barbara... AiAi... Hmm... I don't know. Super Monkey Ball is a very unique game. I'd have to say a puzzle based character, but I'm not sure. I think being too analogous is damaging this thread. It was just a rough idea and doesn't need to be perfect. It doesn't even need to exist! But pairing Aiai up against another action/puzzle character can't be that hard.

I thought AiAi would've an Assist, and I guess Barbara would be a good analog for Amigo, while the Ouendan/EBA can be the analog for Ulala as already mentioned.
@ Parrot: Exactly how big is Joy Mecha Fight's fanbase? I haven't gone looking for anything about it, but I certainly haven't seen much of it otherwise.

Barbara looks a LOT like a Samba de Amigo character ANYWAYS XD And why must we knock Little Mac? I know Punch-Out isn't serious "fighting," but boxers are a staple of fighting games period. That would rock if it was Mac v. Akira. And Pit would NOT be NiGHTS rival. It makes sense, but NiGHTS is better paired against somebody like Kirby. As for Pit, there's always Vyse, but also a TON nobody has been mentioning: - Aragon from Blazing Rangers, who would fight similar to a mash-up between Marth and Zelda - Nigel from Landstalker, which has a similar "spirit" to Kid Icarus in some respects. He could dual-wield elemental swords if they got really creative with it - Sir David from Light Crusader, who's pretty generic but a nice "European" style warrior--as opposed to all the Japanese stuff - Keil Fluge from Panzer Dragoon, who would fight on the back of his dragon and would be totally epic - Glenn, or the unnamed hero, from the Space Harrier series. The whole flying thing can be played up in a good way to compliment Pit (or Saki, for that matter, with the guns) - Erik VI from Sword of Vermilion, who, again, would be a mash-up between Zelda and Marth - Prince Ali from Beyond Oasis, who offers a Persian/Arabic contrast to Pit's Hellenistic style. The only catch here is that he may or may not be a Sega property. The developer of Beyond Oasis, Ancient, worked on games like Brawl, however, so they are definitely "in the door." Damn... Sega has just as much stuff as Nintendo, huh?

Thanks Flip for remembering the OBVIOUS Nintendo Fighting game and character, Little Mac from Punch Out, he definitely goes against Akira. Now let me remember you guys that we only got 40 characters, so lets keep the one hit wonders out unless they bring something to the table or is a important franchise that we for some reason forgot to mention (like Phanzer dragoon)
This tread has reminded me a few things:
-Sega has more generic looking though guys on their lines than Nintendo (Akira (Virtua Fighter) Axel (streets of Rage) Ryo Hazuki ( Shenmue ) we cant include all of them even if their franchises are some of Sega most famous.
-Sega has many more One hit wonders than Nintendo, but many of those where not developed by Sega, lets just use one hit wonders to fill rivalries when absolutely necessary.
Once we have covered each company most famous franchises, its ok to bring some obscure characters into the table.
Updated the Rivarities list with some of the sugestions and moved it to the first post.

I think that's supposed to be Blazing Heroes, flip. XD
And for the record, I'd say that if the game was made by a developer formerly known as Sega-AM#, then it's OK. The rest of those Sega games seem a bit on the fence to me. Is Fry around? Maybe he can help us clarify...
