So, here's the jist of it: A fifty character Smash Bros. game using character suggestions. Just give me a good argument, how they might fight, and gather a few followers and I'll figure something out. This entire roster is generally pretty flexible, and some characters can be removed and replaced.
CURRENT ROSTER
Super Mario series Mario Luigi Peach Bowser
Donkey Kong series Donkey Kong Diddy Kong
Legend of Zelda series Link Zelda / Shiek Ganondorf Young Link Tingle
Metroid series Samus / ZS Samus
Yoshi's Island series Yoshi
Kirby Super Star series Kirby Meta Knight King Dedede
Star Fox series Fox Falco Wolf
Pokemon series Pikachu Jigglypuff Meowth Mewtwo Lucario Red - Squirtle / Ivysaur / Charizard
F-Zero series Cpn. Falcon Sam. Goroh
Mother / Earthbound series Ness Lucas
Fire Emblem series Marth Ike
Kid Icarus series Pit
Wario series Wario
Pikmin series Olimar
Densetsu no Stafy series Stafy
Nintendo series Ice Climbers R.O.B. Mr. Game & Watch Takamaru Little Mac
Currently, there are 40 seperate roster positions and 16 series.
EDIT - 1-31-09 at 1:47 pm - Third Party characters were removed, as I have decided not to speculate on third party.

I feel like we've had topics akin to this one before. But, anyway, I already know three of the more popular and less controversial suggestions:
-Takamaru -Little Mac -Mewtwo

Interesting idea but a few suggestions for your list structure.
- Remove 3rd party franchises (for now . . .) from the list because we don't know for certain if the next smash will even have them. (I do like them in, it's just I like to see a POSSIBLE list because organising third parties is hard from what Sakarai said).
- Change NES series to Other (Nintendo) franchises series, because well Mr G&W isn't really a NES character (well unless your counting NES era).
Okay . . . with that over, character removals and suggestions.
- Remove Wolf and give his Up B and side B to Falco. I do like some of Wolf's other attacks but I just don't like that Fox got cloned . . . twice. I would only keep him in if the Star Fox series got a (new and good) major game that could give Wolf some new moves/FS.
I have to say this, I really don't like clones but it seems like most people here like them.
- Captain Rainbow, who doesn't want him in? (Skip needs representation and Chibi Robo does'nt seem like much of a fighter).
- Jill in the Drill Dozer, another female character and possibly heavyweight to boot.
- Another Fire Emblem character that doesn't use a sword to fight (I'm not against sword fighters but FE does have other weapons).
- EDIT: and Takamaru
Need to wait for their new games to come out.
- Sin & Punishment character, give them Wolf's standard B move (or a variation of it) for there standard B move (shoot indirectly or slash with cannon sword close up)
- Punch Out! character.
- I would say add Krystal for the Star Fox series.
- EDIT: Starfy as well.
And that's all I can think of for now as I have a bad feeling this thread ain't going to turn out well.

Mega Man. That is all. EDIT: Oh, I have to justify it? Well... he's Mega Man! I had an idea way back when the Dojo was updating for a Kirby-like quirk in Mega Man's moveset. When a match starts, his standard B will be the Mega Buster, but as the fight goes on, it would be replaced by the standard B attack of whichever character Mega Man last KO'd.

I feel like we've had topics akin to this one before. But, anyway, I already know three of the more popular and less controversial suggestions: -Takamaru -Little Mac -Mewtwo Don't forget Isaac... But of course. AND Isaac THOUGH, lemme make one of my older arguments once again: will any of these suggestions be relevant in 7+ years when a fourth Smash is made? I understand, and agree, that Isaac, Jill, Mewtwo, etc. etc. all need to be in Smash Bros.. However, consider the time frame we are looking at. Unless there is a third Golden Sun, or a second Drill Dozer, or something else that "Revives" one of these characters, they are not going to be "PC" worthy. It's pretty much the reason, I think, that Young Link and Roy were cut--they had replacements. I don't doubt it will happen again come Smash 4. With that all being said, retro characters are ultra-safe because they are, well, RETRO. Being so old actually gives you protection because you're not expected to have a revival AND you have the nostalgic appeal. Characters like Barbara, Jill, Isaac, etc. are very prone to never appearing again, however, because they lack the "identity" that characters like Pit and Ice Climbers have had.

True, but let me point out an exception to that rule, Saki. Remember, just because the likelyhood seems slim that they'll appear again doesn't automatically mean they won't. I for one see Isaac being relevent in 7+ years even without a reappearance because he shows a staying power that few of his peers like Barbara or Jill hold.

I agree with Flip. Brawl would have been the perfect chance to make Isaac playable but now only more games make those characters likely to appear. Oh, and I still have that weird theory that Jigglypuff is in Brawl because it resembles Masahiro Sakurai's Kirby and because they don't want to get rid of the veterans (in order to build nostalgic Event Matches). If Sakurai directs SSB4 or they want to keep the tradition and the mechanics of the character, Jigglypuff is likely to reappear. If the series is rebooted in such a way that even the name isn't "Smash" anymore, I wouldn't bet on Jigglypuff coming back. But since this is about SSB4, keep Jigglypuff

I wouldn't be too sure on that, since Jigglypuff is a mainstay and because Jiggypuff's like, the second most popular Pokemon in Japan (correct me if I'm wrong, I only have people saying it and no official list.)
Personally, I could get behind Stafy, Saki, and Toad. They're all characters with some staying power, Stafy because of the series, Saki because of the natural staying power he's picked up, and Toad because he's such a recurring character in such a major series that it's getting kinda ridiculous that he hasn't made it yet. Anyone agree?

I'd just take most of the more viable Assists and make them playable. Not having Samurai Gorohohohoghghgohogho was practically criminal. Add these: -Samurai Goroh He was an Assist and should rightfully have been playable already. -Little Mac He was an Assist and Punch-Out!! is making a comeback, plus he looks enough like a playable character already. -Saki Amamiya (or the guy from the new S&P) Same thing as Little Mac. If all else fails they could just use the kid from the new upcoming Sin & Punishment. -Jill I can't really think of much of a reason for this other than her already being an Assist in Brawl. They could always come up with replacements for those, right? -Ray MKIII Same as Jill. -Issac Same as Ray MKIII. -Sami (or some other Advance Wars character) There was a Wars Assist, but this should rightfully be represented by a character. It's one of the oldest Nintendo franchises out there, but it hardly ever gets any recognition. On the other hand, you could also add the unfinished characters found it Brawl's stinking code bowels: -Dixie Kong Would round out the DK characters nicely. For added quirk, they could have Kiddy Kong be her Final Smash. -Mewtwo He has to come back. It's a given. -Toon Zelda This would be cool if the "Toon Shiek" we saw turned out to be Tetra. The only problem is whether or not the "realistic" and "Toon" Zelda subseries are still the status quo by the time the next SSB comes out. -Doc Mario -Roy -Plusle & Minun I'm kinda torn on these guys. One could argue that Ike was Roy's replacement, but then again it could also be a good idea to have a trinity of Fire Emblem characters in there too. If all else fails, Ike could be dumped for the next most current FE protagonist. Clones are bad, but Doc could've been made Mario's partial clone if he kept the Mario Tornado and had a few different A moves. I'd personally want him in just to see a Final Smash that involves a giant jar of viruses. ;D It's assumed that Plusle & Minun were going to be an updated version of Pichu, though we're already well past both the 2nd and 3rd generations. My guess is that Lucario would just end up being dumped for whatever Pokemon is the star of the then-current movie. The only other characters I can see them adding right off the time of my head are: -Balloon Fighter He managed to get his music in Melee before Brawl's gigantic soundtrack ever came about, plus he was the second closest to actually being the playable NES rep in Melee, losing only to the Ice Climbers. That has to count for something, right? -Mach Rider Again, his music was used in Melee for seemingly no reason. Sakurai's also mentioned him as being a personal favorite of his. I'd assume he'd quit holding back and just add him in should he end up being the guy directing the next SSB.

Goroh, Saki, Mac, Isaac, and Mewtwo are givens, I'd say. Sami and Ray MkIII are a toss-up for me.
Dixie Kong I don't know about, since she's kinda wierd. I'll tell you what, if you can think of a move-set for her I'll back her up. The "Toon Zelda" thing wierds me out. I like the idea of Tetra without Zelda in the mix for her. Doc seems like he's done, so I'm not sure there. Plusle & Minun and Roy I'm with you on because I feel they could have worked.
Balloon Fighter and Mach Rider are both good choices. Parrothead'll probably kill me for saying this, but it would have to be the generic Balloon Fighter from the original. I just don't see it working any other way.

I definitely think we'll be seeing the "Forbidden 7" in some form if SSB4 comes out within the next, say, 4 years. Anything past that and the clock will be shorting out on those guys.

Forbidden 7?

Forbidden 7's a goofy name given to 7 fighters who's incomplete data was found on Brawl's disk. Includes Roy and Mewtwo. Only character I'm willing to bet money on to be playable in SSB4 would be Bowser Jr. As far as new fighters from the Mario franchise go, he seems the most logical next choice... to me anyway. Appearing in every main Mario game since Sunshine, seems like he's a new series' regular. I'd say Krystal, K.Rool or maybe Dixie (only because of her incomplete Brawl data really) make a decent chance aswell. And while SSB4 won't be announced for a long time and there's a good chance a new Fire Emblem game will pop up between now and then, I've got a feeling one of Marth's allies from the first FE makes a good chance too. I'd pick Sheeda (Shiida?) as she's probably Marth's most important partner, being able to recruit a lot of heroes herself. As for AT's I think a few have a good chance of ending up playable. Like Isaac, Mac and perhaps Saki, but a good load will probably stick to AT status (probably Stafy ). ...But that's what I expect. What I want is lots of retro shit and 3rd party newcomers from Capcom/Konami.

Yes, you'd need to back up with a list like that, Shrikeswind. Not for this, like I said.
Bowser Jr... He's also nothing sure if we can't tell he'll continue as a major villain in the future Mario games, in my opinion. An immediate choice before Toad, I agree.
